Oasis single Don’t Look Back In Anger has had a fourth chart run in the Top 40 this week.

The single reached number one in 1996, then in re-entered the top forty in 2017, 2024 and 2025 in the current chart at the time of this post.

  • 10 times (1996, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2024 twice), 11 if you include 3 Lions 98

  • Even more irritating is that it was released but was ineligble as it was the first in the series and came packaged with a box to hold the collection in!

John Lennon's 'Imagine'

1975: #6 (original release)

1980: #1 (posthumous chart topper)

1999: #3 (re-release)

2012: #18 (Olympics)

Looking at the current top 100:

Lose Control (5 runs)

The Door (5 runs)

Iris (4 runs)

Someone You Loved (4 run)

That's So True (4 runs)

Good Luck Babe (4 runs)

Die With A Smile (4 runs)

Most of these are in the same overall top 100 run though, not sure if that's what we're looking for here.

How many times has 3 lions entered, plus do we count christmas songs that appear every year

And gonna be every 2 years forever more isn't it 😅 (or every year if the women do well )

Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' has had 6 runs in the top 40, although 4/6 of those were just returning for a single week due to Halloween downloads/streams (the other two of course being its original release and his death) so it's not quite fitting the spirit of the thread - if only it had been among his series of 2006 re-releases it could have had runs for 4 distinct reasons. Likewise Ray Parker Jr.'s 'Ghostbusters' has had 4 runs but 3 were for the same reason.

Cannot immediately think of any others that aren't just regular seasonal returners!

'Blinding Lights' entered (or re-entered) the Top 40 at least once per year from 2019 to 2022 inclusive, and same with 'Seventeen Going Under' from 2021 to 2024.

The Stone Roses - Fools Gold entered the Top 40 in each of 1989, 1990, 1995 and 1999.

As alluded to on SyncTube today Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' very nearly qualifies for this - #13 in 1980, #19 in 1983, #19 again in 1995 but falling just short at #46 in 2007.

The Jam - In The City also came close, but did make the Top 50 in 4 separate years without going Top 30:

1977: #40

1980: #40

1983: #47

2002: #36

what about Tay's Cruel Summer? (I'm travelling and cannot check myself)

But you said data can be found in a nanosecond 👀

Although it had 3 granted each time they were long runs

Ah I didn't know that, I did think it was odd that it'd be omitted from the series!
