Tina first performed the song in 1970 with then-husband Ike, and re-recorded the song by herself in 1993 for the soundtrack to the film about her life What's Love Got To Do With It, likely to distance herself from Ike. The song starts slow (or "nice and easy") like the original CCR version, then becomes drastically faster and louder ("nice and rough"). Tina's version charted for the first time in 2010 after an X Factor cover, and peaked following her death in 2023. Two 50 pointers put this ahead of Marvin and Tammi who had a top score of 49 points.
Sunday at 18:452 days Author Thoughts on 35-31She's Electric- my least favourite of the 3 Oasis finalists but still one of the songs I'm most fond of by them. Liam is at his most listenable here! We did well on the 3 Oasis finalists we chose, good job everyone 😁Brown Eyed Girl- it's fine, one of the 60s classics I don't really care for. Doesn't really help that Morrison doesn't come across as a likeable person. TIL it was played at Rik Mayall's funeral 😢 maybe I should think more fondly of it now...Blackbird- beautiful song, really touching. Paul is probably my favourite Beatle when it comes to their songwriting and this definitely makes a great case for him! Prefer their other two finalists thoughAin't No Mountain High Enough- undeniably a classic, really hard for a 60s Motown track to miss imo. Only thing I have against it is that their vocals are so powerful they peak the mic and it's pretty unpleasant, if they released a remastered version which remedies this it would be a fair bit higher in my ranking!Proud Mary- can't believe this wasn't at least in the top 20, what a song! One of my earliest music memories was listening to this song, young me loved it when it got faster. One of the few covers superior to the original. Edited Sunday at 18:472 days by gasman449
Sunday at 20:202 days Tina’s Proud Mary is not a patch on the Ike collab which itself is not a patch on the CCR version.

The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin who was inspired by his first trip to California and the girls he met there, as well as his then-wife Maxine Feibelman. Due to its length it was not released as a single in the UK. It charted for the first time in 2015 after it was used in a John Lewis advert.
Monday at 13:161 day Tiny Dancer is good but I wouldn't rate it amongst Elton's top tracks, he's got way too many classics that I'd rank above that.

Other than Brian May's solo at the end, the only instruments used are vocals and the famous stomp-stomp-claps. The song was inspired by the band realising how important sport chants were to the public after a show in Stafford. It was part of their famous Live Aid set in 1985. A version by Five featuring contributions from May and Roger Taylor reached number one in 2000, giving Queen their 6th (and most recent) number one single.

Would you be able to give your opinion on how you thought it might have done in the end? But after the final results countdown of course 😊.

Richards said the original inspiration for the track came from seeing people rush for shelter during a rainstorm in London. Session vocalist Merry Clayton provided the female vocals: you can hear Jagger shout in amazement after her high note on the final "murder". A 1993 EP of the same name consisting of multiple different covers of the song for charity reached number 23 in the UK, but the original did not chart until 2010.
Monday at 17:551 day 'Gimme Shelter' and 'Where Is My Mind?' are two of my favourites in the rate I was pointed in the direction of a folder that had decades worth of TOTP episodes in it (which has sadly since been taken down) and I discovered 'Gimme Shelter' there on a 1969 recording, the passionate vocals and words blew me away. Probably my second favourite Stones song only behind 'Paint It, Black'.'Where Is My Mind?' was entered to a BJSC spin-off about a decade ago and merely scraped into my votes at the time... but has grown into a proper favourite as my taste developed to embrace alt music more. It feels quite disorientating to listen to and gives me chills every time. I'm happy that it's carried over well into the streaming era.
Monday at 18:031 day A shame that 'We Will Rock You' has gone out but I think eight of the top ten songs in my vote are still to come.

Monday at 19:191 day Author And we're now halfway through! Thoughts on 30-26Tiny Dancer- never really heard much of Elton's music growing up so I've only been familiar with it for a couple of years. Tiny Dancer is a solid track but it's not one of my favourites from himWe Will Rock You- obviously I can appreciate this song's cultural impact but it doesn't really have much going on. Would've loved to have seen them perform this live with Freddie ❤️Where Is My Mind- love this song! Loved it even more when I found out it was about swimming away from a fish 😆 Fight Club introduced me to it (and Pixies on the whole, awesome film) and I'm glad there's enough appreciation from voters in this rate for it to make the final and finish top 30.Gimme Shelter- up there in my top 5 Stones songs. Such an important message and it of course sounds great to boot. Mick and Merry knock it out of the park with their vocals, a true all-timer. Surprised it's in the bottom half!Walking On A Dream- I knew and loved the song from playing Forza Horizon about 10 years ago but I wasn't really bothered about seeking the game's music out at the time and didn't clock the song's name or the artist so this slipped out of my mind for a while. When I saw this was doing well on Spotify I gave it a listen then realised this was the track I loved from Forza and the good memories I associated with the game came flooding back. Great soundtrack BTW if you haven't heard it. Absolutely love the atmosphere and the chorus vocals are heavenly, another one that sounds great on a late night drive.

The Pixies are one of my all time favourite bands, Where Is My Mind? wouldn’t be amongst my absolute favourites of theirs but that’s no slight as the standard of their back catalogue is set so high. I once feared they would remembered only as critical darlings and a major influence on Nirvana, so I’m glad at least one of their songs is successful in the UK.
Monday at 20:301 day That's impressively high for Walking on a Dream, I remember it from the time before they had their breakthrough and it's a very underrated song. Where Is My Mind and Gimme Shelter obviously big classics too x

Most of my favourites of theirs are from the following album, Doolittle, but it's fantastic that one of their songs has struck such a chord this century, especially as they had so little chart success as a band.

The song is the band's most streamed song on worldwide Spotify where it is number 22 on the all-time charts, and has remained inside the UK indie top 40 for the past 3 years. It charted for the first time in 2022 in the leadup to the release of The Car and likely would've made the top 40 with a reset. It was on 2023's year-end list and came very close to being the only song to make a year-end list and not make the weekly top 100. (multiple Ed Sheeran album tracks would've achieved this in 2017 if the 3-track rule was in place however). One +50 score was enough to push it in front of Empire Of The Sun which got a highest score of +46 Edited yesterday at 10:161 day by gasman449
