02 01 409 Ariana Grande - One Last Time

01 03 456 Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me

It is thus condragulations to Carly Rae Jepsen who runs away with the yearly voting. She had previously won the entire contest with this song, had fell out of favour a little in the middle of its decade but has crept back up the rankings in recent years so we cannot rule out this being sent off with a second victory. Meanwhile it is one last time for Ariana joining in the final with other familiar favourites from Years & Years and Taylor Swift. More popular than ever though we let happen Tame Impala placing as the 5th direct finalist, a song that started its decade in relative obscurity but now a firm Buzzjack favourite. His other big hit from the year is also for the first time a semi-finalist. It means we lose Major Lazer as an direct finalist but they still have a shot in the semi-finals.

A good year for Justin Bieber helped by his comeback album Swag, Sorry is joined by What Do You Mean in the semi-finals. The Chemical Brothers made it to the final round for the first time last year and they may well go for it again as they jump into the top 10. Grimes oddly sees a sudden drop in support for Flesh Without Blood but her other song Kill V. Maim remains steady. Huge hits from Ellie Goulding, Walk The Moon and Kygo (yay!) re-join the semi-finalists. Sadly dropping out in their place are Galantis and The Weeknd whilst we also lose the other Y&Y hit and Demi Lovato. After a worrying first set of votes, support for the two Calvin Harris songs eventually picked up and both remain in contention. Taylor's Out of the Woods shows as the "highest entry", just missing a semi-finalist placement, though was actually just placed in 2014 previously (it was given a single push in 2015, so I've allowed it). Not far behind as the actual biggest returner we have X Factor one hit wonder Fleur East (who knew this was still so highly regarded?). Sadly not much of a support pickup for Avicii in the final year his 'Stories' era can shine with Waiting For Love just outside the top 40 and The Nights a little further down.

YAY for Run Away With Me. I think it's a tall shout for it to score a win again, but if it could squeeze in another year in the top 10, that'd be such a deserved goodbye for one of my favourite songs of all time. 🥰

Love seeing Your Type finish top 40 too, and a "would've been" qualifier position.

Justice for New Romantics.

At least Style and Wildest Dreams made it.

Oh dear it’s a shame Big Moon came second to last, I think it’s a lovely slice of Pixies/Elastica influenced female fronted indie rock.

I didn’t realise that Let It Happen was relatively obscure at first, it’s always been my favourite from that year even from its initial release.

Technically it could belong to 2016 too! Arguably more so than 2015 honestly. It was sent to US radio in January 2016, making its release date 19th January 2016 - despite starting out as a promotional single on 14th October 2014. Its music video premiered on TV on 31st December 2015 and was released to YouTube on 1st January 2016. A three year spanning bop! cheeseblock

Of the 30 songs I voted for, the worst performing here is Blonde - All Cried Out. cry

Happy that Run Away with Me is highly regarded after a decade. wub A classic.

Interesting to see Sigala - Easy Love rather low down here considering that it's a BJSC winner.

Tame Impala being top 5 is one of the worst results of these yearly decade events. What on earth has caused the boost in popularity with them here? Shocking stuff.

Sorry Dan ph34r

I thought I sent this at work but forgot I got busy and didn’t get chance so had to rush it in mobile and it takes a lot more effort ahah.

Thank you! ❤️

Ugh most of my favourites (well the ones that had a realistic chance of qualifying) fell out in the no-use-to-anyone AQ zone! Happy at the small climbs for Maccabees and Wolf Alice, sad at the drops for Everything Everything. Does this mean a better or worse year for indie...?

We're losing one core alt/indie voter this year, at least for this batch. Let's hope the aforementioned voter returns for the remaining batches.
