I still like Escapism, but reseting old songs is not the kind of thing I like to see in the charts. :(

Biography

There’s a moment in a 2020 interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe where Justin Bieber begins—quietly, hesitantly—to cry. “It was hard for me being that young and being in the industry, and not knowing where to turn, and everyone telling me they love me, and just turning their back on you in a second,” Bieber says, each clause kicking up memories like dust. The point isn’t to weep with or for him—he’s had more dreams come true in his first 25 years than most people manage in a lifetime. But he’s also one of the few pop stars of his generation to have truly grown up in public, weathering the cable newsification of celebrity culture in the internet era while still trying to develop as both an artist and a person. Even early on, you could tell he had his eye on the future, balancing a doe-eyed wholesomeness with earnest attempts at hip-hop and R&B, material that suited him as a kid with material that reflected his growth into adolescence and adulthood. Some teen-pop singers end up trapped in amber; Justin Bieber has, knocks and all, kept swimming. Born in London, Ontario, in 1994, Bieber was famously discovered when his future manager, Scooter Braun, stumbled on some performance videos that Bieber’s mom had uploaded to YouTube to share with family and friends. Braun, who understood not only Bieber’s appeal but the potential of the internet, encouraged him to keep making videos and keep the equipment cheap—an approach that not only helped Bieber’s growing fanbase to understand that he was still just a kid like them, but drafted a new blueprint for how artists could reach audiences in the digital era. With the exception of a voice change around 2011, 2009’s My World, 2010’s My World 2.0, and 2012’s Believe are more or less of a piece: the sound of a boy trying to stick the landing into puberty. Released in 2015, Purpose showed Bieber developing a more thoughtful connection to his material, including collaborations with vanguard pop producers like Diplo, Skrillex, and Benny Blanco. After a five-year break during which Bieber underwent significant personal changes—including a detox from touring life, a diagnosis of Lyme disease, and a epiphanic marriage to Hailey Baldwin—he came back with 2020’s Changes. “People have been putting me on a pedestal,” Bieber told Apple Music. "I didn’t ask for that. Obviously I love making music, but there are a lot of people that love making music and they’re not in the position that I’m in. I’m just trying to steward that wisely, steward my relationship wisely. I want people to take a look at my story—hopefully, my words can make a difference.” - Apple Music

Biography

Lola Young is an R&B-rooted, stylistically dynamic vocalist and multi-instrumentalist whose combination of smoky vocals and mature songwriting has prompted comparisons to Amy Winehouse and Adele. Although the South East London native's 2019 debut, the Intro EP, made a significant impression, she experienced her true breakout in 2021. Her atmospheric cover of "Together in Electric Dreams" soundtracked John Lewis & Partners' annual Christmas advertising campaign that year, and she was also shortlisted for the 2022 BRITs Rising Star category, a distinction that affirmed her individuality. Following a handful of singles, including "So Sorry" and "Stream of Consciousness," Young issued her debut album, 2023's My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely. This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway followed quickly in 2024. - Apple Music

Biography

Coldplay isn’t only one of the most popular English bands but also a torchbearer for an art-rock sound whose roots reach back through Radiohead, U2, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles. Yes, the music is anthemic enough to fill arenas—“Clocks,” “Speed of Sound,” “Paradise,” “A Sky Full of Stars”—but detailed and atmospheric, too, stretching the conventions of modern rock without ever losing the emotional thread. Formed in London in the late ’90s, the band debuted with 2000’s Parachutes. Seasons have changed—the arty experiments of 2008’s Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, the electro rush of 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, the eclecticism of 2019’s Everyday Life—but the core of its sound has been consistent: Propulsive, uplifting, grand but vulnerable. In step with the earnest spirit of its music, the band has also poured considerable resources into philanthropy: performing at Live 8, sponsoring Ocean Cleanup efforts, and notably investing in renewable energy to power 2021's Music of the Spheres World Tour. Whether in crowded bars, lonely bedrooms, closing out the London 2012 Summer Olympics, or headlining the Super Bowl 50 four years later, the effect is more or less the same: At the end of the day, Coldplay comes for the heart. - Apple Music

Biography

In a scene from Apple Music’s Songwriter documentary about Ed Sheeran, the singer-songwriter straggles out into a garden in Malibu at dawn. Jet-lagged and carrying a cup of tea, he sits down at his laptop and begins writing a song about the moment right in front of him: the crisp air, the birdsong, the hot tea, the day ahead. Sheeran gets a full verse in, melody and all, and then pauses. “Songs are weird things,” he says. “How so?” an interviewer asks. “They just come and go,” Sheeran says, smiling. “And they never give you any warning.” For Sheeran, songs have come rather reliably since he started writing in his youth. Born in 1991 in Halifax, he started out gigging on the pub circuit before releasing his first studio album, +, in 2011. Sheeran kept up the mathematical theme on subsequent album titles as he became one of the most unstoppable singer-songwriters in music, forging a light, polished blend of folk, pop and hip-hop that feels bittersweet and redemptive, intimate yet universal. Whether on his own songs (“Sing”, “The A Team”, “Shape of You”, “Perfect”) or in collaboration with artists such as Taylor Swift, Chance the Rapper and Beyoncé, Sheeran strikes a chord that feels good-natured and genuine: he’s the hopeless romantic who isn’t afraid to be vulnerable and show you his heart. Perhaps even more important, Sheeran isn’t afraid to take chances. His 2021 smash “Bad Habits” dabbled in modern dance-pop, while in 2023, he performed an Apple Music Live session in London and released two albums: −, a vulnerable album about grief and depression; and Autumn Variations, featuring collaborations with Aaron Dessner of The National. - Apple Music

Looks like the Coldplay songs are heading for a swift ACR exit. Had they been reset around March, it could have been a different story.

Biography

Chappell Roan specializes in jubilant, femme-positive pop that combines a strong romantic streak with a hunger for grand experiences. Kayleigh Rose Amstutz (born in 1998 in Willard, MO) began posting cover-song videos online in her teens, and after releasing her first EP, School Nights, in 2017, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her pop-star dreams. In early 2020 she connected with producer Dan Nigro, and that April she released “Pink Pony Club,” a torchy ballad about thriving at “a special place/where boys and girls can all be queens every single day.” Roan released a smattering of singles, including the writhing “My Kink Is Karma” and the yearning “Casual,” before putting out her first full-length, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, in September 2023. Roan’s unbridled, lusty pop songs became an online phenomenon—or, as she might put it, a “femininomenon”—and she hit the arena circuit when she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the latter’s GUTS tour in early 2024. - Apple Music

Biography

Coldplay isn’t only one of the most popular English bands but also a torchbearer for an art-rock sound whose roots reach back through Radiohead, U2, Pink Floyd and The Beatles. Yes, the music is anthemic enough to fill arenas—“Clocks”, “Speed of Sound”, “Paradise”, “A Sky Full of Stars”—but detailed and atmospheric, too, stretching the conventions of modern rock without ever losing the emotional thread.

Biography

Kehlani Parrish has become one of the most grounded, inspiring voices in modern R&B, preaching messages of self-care and sexual fluidity in ways that feel frank, funny and real. Born in Oakland, California, in 1995, they embarked on a solo career after leaving the teen-pop group Poplyfe. Since then, they have proven to be a master of contrasts across a series of mixtapes and albums that match heartfelt revelations with an increasing degree of futuristic musical and production flourishes. Collaborations ramped up their star power in a big way, with Kehlani thriving opposite the likes of Chance the Rapper, G-Eazy, Charlie Puth and Ty Dolla $ign. Following the induction into parenthood tackled on 2020’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t and the overt healing themes of 2022’s blue water road, they took a more empowering turn on 2024’s CRASH. “For once, I’m not attached to some story or some public thing or some trauma or some deep explanations,” Kehlani told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I have nothing but joyful things to say to you. I’m in such a happy place.” The songs on CRASH were also specifically designed to be performed live, giving them a spontaneous edge. That heightens the tender offer of romantic communion on both the percolating “After Hours” and the country-leaning ballad “Better Not”. By contrast, Kehlani reminds us of their enduring swagger on the Christina Aguilera-sampling “What I Want”, a brash statement of female desire. Through it all, their authenticity rings out loud and clear. - Apple Music
