October 15Oct 15 I mean;Picnics in the gardenThen the children they can playThe first day of the summer and I laze here all the dayAnd we'll invite the family 'roundAnd drink some English teaThen I raise up my finger and watch football on TVThese lyrics are terrible!
October 15Oct 15 Indifferent to GA's cover of ISBY but I'd imagine it would hit very hard now in recent memory for obvious reasons. The Pretenders version is splendid though.Don't mind 'Thunderbirds' but it's not one I'd seek out if I wanted to listen to Busted lol. Lyrics aside I quite like 'Real To Me' and something possessed me to buy his album too though tbf the other singles were also solid enough so maybe that's why. Never been huge on 'All This Time' oops but it's funny seeing her name mentioned on here as a meme i guess.
October 15Oct 15 Well I can pretty much get behind the whole Top 8 now! “All This Time“ is fine I guess - better than many others of its kind but I wouldn’t go as far as to call it good.“Real To Me” is dire to me. It’s the lyrics and the Jenny from the block style presenting himself as a down to earth family guy, and the general air of thinking he was doing something really credible and superior to where he’d come from. I remember him saying on radio that the 3rd single “Demons” was a sure-fire #1 before it limped to #28.
October 15Oct 15 I actually don't really like Michelle's voice all that much, and find her tone a bit nasally, but I had and still have a lot of time for her as a person, and I'm glad she won Pop Idol, she seems such a lovely and kind soul. It's not like the competition that year was any stronger anyway - a big step down from the first series. I did like Suzanne though. All This Time though is just one of a long line of generic cliched winners singles for me, but I know it's popular on here so I can't begrudge her a top 10 berth! As an aside, Michelle did a very pleasant cover of We All Stand Together a few years ago for charity that I bought at the time.
October 15Oct 15 Real To Me I actually like, reminds me a lot of Hoobastank - The Reason but a bit better imo (it's not so overplayed on radio as The Reason)All This Time is an OK song. Edited October 15Oct 15 by TheSnake
October 16Oct 16 Author 8Peter Andre featuring Bubbler Ranx - Mysterious Girl (1 week - 6th March) 8.4/10Mid-90's catchy reggae pop, of which there was a lot at the time, and I rather liked this one in 1996 despite the overdone abs in the video. As Ive said before, I love reggae, I like Peter's voice and the toasting Bubbler is fine, and this should have topped the chart first-time round if it was going to do it, so it's a case of 8 years later is better than not at all but it really belongs in 1996 listings. 2004 I'm A Celeb and night-time antics with future partner Katie Price pushed it out again and it finally got to the top - and it's surprisingly high in this list. It is pretty upbeat and fun though, and I've never really reached the point where it got on my nerves, even second-time round.
October 16Oct 16 Author 7U2 - Vertigo (1 week - 20th Nov) 8.5/10U2's 6th number one following from the Take Me To The Clouds Above remix, and some right rousing guitar rock, it's not quite up their 80's peak but 16 years on from their first chart-topper it's pretty energetic and fizzing, and makes a reassuring change for rock to still get a look-in before it dies a chart death in years to come. Bangin'! I note the intro has been changed from Quatro. Bono obv took notes from comments at the time, oops! A great ending too, a chant and then done. U2, as a complete back catalogue, is pretty impressive and to be able to grab a week on top 23 years on from Fire turning up on Top Of The Pops is pretty good. How many 2004 acts still get number ones? Errr, David Guetta? That's about it.
October 16Oct 16 I'm forever grateful for the existence of 'Real to Me' because it got me a pointless answer in a BuzzJack quiz asking for songs with lyrics about coffee or tea 'All This Time' a BuzzJack anthem *.* I agree with Rich that Michelle comes off well whenever I've seen an interview of her. The 2000s was an absolutely brutal time for weight scrutiny in the media, so I'm relieved that she came out of it strong and thriving with her own radio show on BBC Scotland nowadays. My favourite thing about 'Mysterious Girl' is producing the memorable Ant and Seb X Factor audition. Come on move your body. The woman that I love. Woah!'Vertigo' instantly transports me back to the era of iPod adverts so that's pretty nostalgic. Re. 2004 acts still getting #1s - there's also Beyoncé and Eminem off the top of my head who achieved chart toppers as recently as last year. So it's an exclusive club but props to their star power even now!My three long-term big favourites are still in the race in addition to a song that has crept up on me a lot in recent years, yay.
October 16Oct 16 The top 6 is now very aligned with my taste. Not sure “Mysterious Girl” would have quite made my Top 10 but I do think it’s one of the best pop reggae crossovers of its kind. U2 are very hit and miss for me but “Vertigo” is a really strong bit of mid 00s rock.
October 16Oct 16 I do have a real soft spot for 'Mysterious Girl' and 'Vertigo' is an absolute stormer, the last era U2 were any good really.

She got a lot of sexist unfair stick from the media which trickles down to the general public, so justice is served! Ooh and thanks for Beyonce and Eminem reminders, and ancient ones from Elton and Beatles spring to mind too slightly further back.
October 17Oct 17 Mysterious Girl and Vertigo are two I’m a little indifferent on, saying that Vertigo probably makes my top 10.
October 17Oct 17 Both good songs, Peter Andre's only listenable song for me probably, and yes it deserved No.1 at the time but seemed to get stuck behind those other huge summer hits. Vertigo is great and reminds me of the start of the download era too. I thought it always started 'uno, dos, tres, catorce' (1,2,3,14 oops) as per the version posted. I've never heard a quatro version.

I've never heard a quatro version. I must be misremembering as I thought there was a blip about it at the time, but my album version indeed sings catorce too, and it's one I bought at the time. I'm lucky if I can remember what I had for breakfast these days, but I'm still largely secure on 70's pop trivia 😄
October 17Oct 17 Author 6Robbie Williams - Radio (1 week - 16th October) 8.6/10Not heard this one since 2004 either, and it's one I rated but dont remember much about - The Robster looks at his physical peak in the video, smart, and this track is quite a departure and kick-starting his commercial decline I'd guess. It's not got the traditional song structure of a Guy Chambers song, it's more of a seriously synth-80's vibe that never lets up - that'll be courtesy of Stephen Duffy, 80's hitster of Kiss Me and Icing On The Cake. Comparing this and Guy's song for Brian McFadden, I think Robbie comes out of it better, which speaks well for Robbie's input into his own songs, regardless who is working with. It's not a top-notch classic Robbie track, but it's a bit of a romp that deserves to be better remembered, and I like the video to boot. This was at the time Robbie's 6th solo number one, into double figures including Take That stuff, and in my charts his 9th solo chart-topper, so I was what you might call a fan, buying most of the albums and all.
October 17Oct 17 Author 5Usher featuring Lil' Jon and Ludacris - Yeah (2 weeks - 27th March) 8.7/10Exciting rhythms on this one, a bit of a comeback for Usher dabbling with dance, especially the synthy riffs going on throughout, and the crowd/chorus Yeahs are surprisingly varied and interesting. Not sure the rap breaks add that much given the substance of what the lyrics are braggin' about but it was starting to become obligatory by this time for any Urban and many dance tracks, and of course plausible deniability helps. It may well be about milking the cow and they grew up on a farm. Me I'd have preferred some sung verses instead, but anyways it still sparkles and throbs, and is far and away Usher's greatest moment and a deserved top 5 spot on the list, and miles ahead of his other chart-topper of 2004. so, top 4 left, one of 'em a holdover from 2003, and 3 actual 2004 gems.
October 17Oct 17 Not too fond of Radio myself, although my partner likes it and is a big Stephen Duffy fan, so can see how it has a certain appeal. To me it felt like one of those Greatest Hits add-on singles that don't really fit any particular style, sound or era and end up sounding out of place in an artist's catalogue - at least it did at the time. Of course, looking back now it was just the start of the period Robbie was starting to move into more leftfield stuff (this set up the likes of Trippin' and the Rudebox album quite well).Yeah is great crunk with Lil' Jon's trademark style and the Ludacris rap also adding up to make a brilliant song. It would be in my top ten for sure, it's quite a minimal instrumental loop but so effective and a classic from the time that I still hear a lot now.Pleased to see my favourite song of the year is still to come (well, second favourite, but favourite UK No.1 by a mile).
October 17Oct 17 'Radio' is a bit of a mess, although not his worst or anything.'Yeah' is definitely an instantly recognisable classic, I liked this but I don't think I liked anything else from that huge era ('Caught Up' maybe?)
October 17Oct 17 'Radio' is the song I was referring to when I said something still in the race had crept up on me over the years! I used to dismiss it as a bit of a non-#1 but its theatrical, electro charms have converted me over time and now it would easily be in my top 5 #1s of the year.I recently made a playlist full of electro-pop music and found that 'Radio' segues nicely into Jamelia's 'Beware of the Dog' as the former ends with "listen to the radio" and flows into the latter starting with "listen to me" *.*I can't begrudge 'Yeah!' kicking off your top 5 though... what a classic and way more sonically interesting than 'Burn'.
October 17Oct 17 'Mysterious Girl' is fun nostalgia I'd say. Cool to see it become a hit again really. 'Vertigo' is fine too but not classic U2 or anything for me.'Radio' is okay but it's a shame 'Feel' from the previous era didn't get to #1 for Robbie imo. 'Yeah!' I don't mind but never been fussed on Usher that greatly.
