So why should Elton get a chart hit for this but Slash didn't get one for that?

It's just label politics and taking advantage of name-power, credits are far from being "fair" or consistent anyway (see Aloe Blacc not getting to officially claim a #1 for Avicii's Wake Me Up, for example)
