04 02 389 Taylor Swift - Anti-Hero

03 03 404 David Guetta & Bebe Rexha - I'm Good (Blue)

02 07 427 Harry Styles - As It Was

01 01 478 RAYE (feat. 070 Shake) - Escapism.

RAYE 'Escapism' is the winner of 2022 once again, recently assisted in the chart by the release of her comeback hit 'Where is My Husband?'. As Harry Styles remains on hiatus the lead from his latest album 'As It Was' shoots up into 2nd place and will now get a free pass into the final. The ever-omnipresent Taylor Swift has released several albums since though 'Anti-Hero' remains one of her best-regarded of recent material and remains in the top 5 along with David Guetta's last megahit 'I'm Good'. Now joining them we have Beyonce who led her dance-oriented album with 'Break My Soul', beaten to UK #1 by LF System 'Afraid to Feel' but now just beating them to a direct final placement. It's a particularly good year for Harry and Beyonce who have second entries contending in the semi-finals.

The rest of the top 10 is given a bit of a shakeup too; Rema had evaded a nomination last year with lengthy chart runner 'Calm Down' but the support it clearly had is now reflected as he enters at #7. Jessie Ware whilst not getting any UK chart smashes recently got a lot of positive online attention for her most recent album led by 'Free Yourself' which ascends to #8. Despite flopping with more recent material Lizzo still sees a good deal of support for 'About Damn Time' up to 9th. A belated hit last year, Djo's 'End of Beginning' now enters the list at #10 following its mainstream attention. The rock contenders from MCR and Metric take a bit of a dip but remain in semi-final contention. Meanwhile Zach Bryan sees a big boost for breakthrough hit 'Something in the Orange'. Sam Ryder who had AQed last year now dips out of the top 10.

  • These results are very rude aside from Zach Bryan and Fontaines D.C. x I know it's time to move on to telling people to stream LUX in a couple of weeks but... stream MOTOMAMI

  • Good jumps for Jamie T and 1975 in the lower section, sad to see Wolf fall out of AQ and my nomination of King narrowly missing the AQ section. Phew at Doomscroller hanging on to a semi final, but it

I guess it didn't help that they had 4 nominations each.

Mixed results here generally, but wow at that entry for 'Calm Down' - how did it manage to go unnominated until this year?

Phew at Doomscroller hanging on to a semi final, but it continues the theme that this year has fewer indie voters than last year's high water mark.

Great result for Djo, the main shock though is that he wasn't in this rate at all last year!

By far the worst result (again) is how Guetta's lazy defilement of Blue Da Ba Dee has made the top 5. It would be in my worst 5 records of the decade 😅

Oh the other good news is Fontaines doing well... hoping that bodes well for (in my opinion) their career best singles that are still to come in the 2024 rate.

I feel there is more indie voters this year - in fact the song noms seem to have a huge Influx of indie noms and very little pop… but as there’s so many songs, the vote is split and so fewer of the songs are doing well

It might be that - proof of the pudding will be in the semi final and final when only a few remain. Will they attract the same or more votes as last year once there's less in-genre competition
