Highest new entry today is Charli xcx - 'Chains of Love' which is showing up at #18 *.*

It’s so funny to me that despite making avant garde hyperpop for most of her career and largely being labelled a one hit wonder, whenever Charli does any vaguely commercial sounding, the GBP eats it up.

Makes me laugh when people try and label Brat as her breakout era when she had a decade of varying success both huge and not prior

Which is seen as the one hit? unsure

Album wise I get it, as Brat was her first album to properly interest people as a body of work. Looking at charts, her comeback actually began with Out Out (#6, 2021) and Beg for You (#24, 2022) and was strengthened by Speed Drive (#9, 2023).

It was her most acclaimed, highest awarded, biggest moment of her career with Brat. Some didn't consider her mainstream until Brat which was a moment with Brat Summer.

The order of Christmas songs is pretty interesting:

10. Mariah

12. Wham

24. Brenda

27. Bobby Helms

31. Kelly

32. Ariana

57. Pogues

76. Dean Martin

84. Buble IBTLALLC

98. Sia Snowman

104. Andy Williams

114. Band Aid

127. Paul McCartney

141. Shaky

147. Bieber

151. Darlene Love

167. Nat King Cole

169. Ronettes

173. Jose Feliciano

183. Buble Holly Jolly Christmas

186. John and Yoko

193. Elton John

Gets weirder every year! Literally the only interesting part of these songs returning

Cmon wham (or ideally anything but the top 2 would make a nice refreshing change 😅)

Here's where they place on the Christmas Hits playlist:

10. Mariah (1)

12. Wham (3)

24. Brenda (5)

31. Kelly (2)

98. Sia Snowman (10)

114. Band Aid (48)

127. Paul McCartney (19)

141. Shaky (43)

147. Bieber (18)

151. Darlene Love (8)

167. Nat King Cole (9)

169. Ronettes (17)

173. Jose Feliciano (16)

183. Buble Holly Jolly Christmas (14)

186. John and Yoko (41)

193. Elton John (22)

You can see what's driving the likes of Bobby Helms and Dean Martin. And you can also see the British/Irish favourites that are very likely being more actively sought out to listen to, considering their low placings (Pogues, Band Aid, Shaky, John and Yoko).

Leona Lewis is on the playlist at 65, Ed and Elton 68, Wizzard 76, Slade aren't even on it...I would love to see what would happen if these four were in the top 10 slots of the playlist one year.

Interestingly although the streams for the top Christmas songs are all down, those lower down seem to be doing generally better year-on-year.

Strong gains especially for Kelly, Band Aid and unfortunately Paul McCartney.

Big losses for Andy Williams and Holly Jolly Christmas.

‘I Don’t Care’ clearly! I can’t even remember if that’s what the song was even called! But as it was her first number 1 single, that must be the one.

Is Kylie’s new Xmas song available on Amazon yet?

Yes. At present I make it roughly the 12th highest song on SCR (132).
