She has been consistently releasing fantastic music this year, and quite frankly she deserves to get that big mainstream break.I absolutely love Rose but, correct me if I’m wrong, R1 have only supported ‘Girls’ with TSHA which is strange considering they’ve jumped on Alessi Rose who is at a similar level to her.

December 2Dec 2 The soundtrack to the next 12 months will match cutting-edge pop with jangly guitar anthems. That's according to the shortlist for BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2026, which tips new music for the coming year. The nominees include US singer-songwriter Sombr, whose lush harmonies and yearning pop-rock songs have already earned him a clutch of UK top 10 singles. Also in the running are Aussie skate-rock duo Royel Otis and nervy post-punk outfit Geese. They're joined by up-and-coming pop singers Chloe Qisha, Skye Newman and Alessi Rose - who supported Dua Lipa on tour this summer. The remaining nominees for 2026 include breakout rap star Jim Legxacy, Irish rockers Florence Road, R&B singer Kwn and singer-songwriter Sasha Keable - a former collaborator with Disclosure and Jorja Smith. This year's list was compiled from votes by an international panel of more than 170 industry experts and artists including Sir Elton John, Dua Lipa, Jade, Olivia Dean, Yungblud and Sam Smith. It is open to acts who have yet to score a number one album or more than three top 10 singles by 31 October 2025. Artists who already have a "significant public profile" are also ineligible.Alessi RoseChloe QishaFlorence RoadGeeseJim LegxacyKwn Royel Otis .Sasha KeableSkye NewmanSombr
December 2Dec 2 Pretty happy with Royal Otis, their new album released last summer has been increasingly growing on me and have been listening periodically. Might now download it properly and give it a number of spins in the new year. Same goes for Sombr and I’ve already downloaded the Geese album so be nice to see them fully support these bands. Did they not A List all the Sombr songs through this year?

I would argue him and Skye Newman both have significant public profiles. Good to see Alessi Rose on there I can’t wait to see her live on Saturday but I’m fully prepared for them to just give it to sombr and claim they made him successful. 29 minutes ago, Steve201 said:Did they not A List all the Sombr songs through this year? They didn’t playlist ‘back to friends’ but ‘undressed’ and ‘12 to 12’ were A Listed. December 2Dec 2 The longlist of 10 acts has been announcedSombr doesnt have a "significant public profile" apparently 😅BBC NewsBBC Sound of 2026 shortlist: 10 acts you'll be obsessed w...The list tips new music for the coming year, following previous winners like Adele, Haim and Chappell Roan.

I wonder how they consider who has a “significant public profile” then.
December 2Dec 2 He’s currently Top 50 in the most listeners Spotify chart ahead of Olivia Dean and Beyoncé. Very niche indie artist that needs more exposure from this x
December 2Dec 2 criteria's still not strict enough, Sombr or Skye Newman would be as laughable of a winner as Chappell Roan wasSasha Keable's been around for well over a decade and Royel Otis already have two Silver certified songs too
December 2Dec 2 Oh dear, the BBC News article both deadnames a member of Geese, and lists a member who left in 2023.
December 2Dec 2 Fun fact: this is the first year to have no act who stylises their name in all-caps since 2017.
December 2Dec 2 Was right with predictions about a couple, Geese and Jim Legxacy. I still think they could have been a bit more adventurous to promote some lesser known acts (isn’t that meant to be the idea) but that’s par for the course recently for ‘Sound Of’. Edited December 2Dec 2 by Jaz13music
December 2Dec 2 Seems a good list, I particularly love Jim Legxacy, Royel Otis, Florence Road and especially Geese! Edited December 2Dec 2 by Jaz13music
