Big in Japan is ok but shame Forever Young didn't get a boost from Marty Supreme. Such a lovely song.

The cut off point has been reached! It's the same points score as last year. 101 singles had a points total greater than 61 points. There were two on 62 points so I've allowed them both through rathe

VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED Thanks to the 40 people who voted. The results will start this evening.

  • Having a slice of toast while watching the evening news in honour. “I Hear You Now” was a gorgeous discovery at the 80s hit sessions, but I couldn’t quite fit it into my votes.

Sheryl Crow - A Change Would Do You Good

Donovan - Mellow Yellow

Jason Derulo featuring Snoop Dogg - Wiggle

Far Corporation - Stairway To Heaven

Fine Young Cannibals - Suspicious Minds

Dannii Minogue - Love And Kisses

Mott The Hoople - Roll Away The Stone

Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram - Somewhere Out There

Far Corporation were a project of Frank Farian who was the man behind Boney M and Milli Vanilli. I do think this cover is better than the original with the use of a choir and that heavy drum sound. I've never seen any visuals for it so this was a treat for me watching it. They even have the choir on stage with them. Apparently, Robert Plant was in the audience and loved it. I was the only one who gave it some points. Mellow Yellow was one of seven top 10 hits for Donovan from 1965 to 1968. Dannii Minogue appears for the second day in a row with her first hit single, Love And Kisses. Roll Away The Stone was the third and final top 10 hit for Mott The Hoople in 1973.

Mellow Yellow's a real classic, shame to see that so low down. Only other of my votes to drop so far is Peanut Butter Jelly, which is still a lot of fun but I'll give you that it hasn't dated the best.

'Big In Japan' is very good, I think only I voted for it though.

'Roll Away The Stone' is one of the better 70s glam rock songs but didn't make my points list.

Dannii Minogue had much better singles to come especially All I Wanna Do and Stringer (Who Do You Love Now)

Why do I imagine the Michael jackson/Paul McCartney song to be the male version of Brandy and Monica's song 🤣(probably predates it so not even possible )

Shirley Bassey - Never, Never, Never (Grande, Grande, Grande)

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Travellin' Band

Chicago - Hard Habit To Break

Electric Light Orchestra - The Diary Of Horace Wimp

David Morales presents The Face - Needin' U

Robbie Williams - Advertising Space

Jeff Lynne has often championed the cause of ordinary, socially inept men in his songs, particularly with his first group, The Idle Race, maybe because he is one himself, despite his fame. In 1979, he gave us a week in the life of Horace Wimp, one of four top 10 hits from the Discovery album. Hard Habit To Break certainly deserves a youtube embed but has to settle for 2nd place out of this 19 point batch. It was the last of five top 10 singles for Chicago. Creedence Clearwater Revival still have a second song to come.

Oh Horace, such a wimp!

and with the Shirley song we have a 'Grande' song on Buzzjack which isn't Ariana!

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony - Tha Crossroads

Feist - 1234

M People - How Can I Love You More (remix)

Puddle Of Mudd - Blurry

The Saturdays - If This Is Love

Dusty Springfield - In The Middle Of Nowhere

How Can I Love You More was M People's first hit in 1991, reaching number 29. This remix by Sasha gave them their first top 10 single in 1993. From 1965, In The Middle Of Nowhere was a fourth top 10 hit for Dusty Springfield. The Saturdays, who have been mentioned in today's comments, lose the second of their two songs.

That M People song is quite nice but its a very poppy dance track - I generally prefer the synthier and/or less poppy ones from the early 90s.

The Saturdays track is quite nice too but Up is better and more interesting from their early songs.

Blurry is my only loss so far, great track. Was tempted to vote for Bad Day but it's one of REM's weaker hits imo.

The first of my votes not to receive votes from anyone else.

I thought I saw quite a few people voting for ‘Blurry’ so I’m sad to see it leave.

The vocal on FYC's version of Suspicious Minds takes a bit of getting used to! I usually really like his voice.

'In All The Right Places' is such a gorgeous song from Lisa Stansfield.

'Big In Japan' is a great slice of 80s pop.

Dannii's 'Love And Kisses' is still fun to listen to.

I actually thought 'If This Is Love' would get way more votes than that!

Frank Farian had quite a few bands over the years, in the 90s he also started La Bouche of classic 'Be My Lover' fame!

I guess Daz Sampson was very smart at the time forgetting his non remarkable Teenage Life to get much more money as a football manager.

Never knew that! He got around a bit, didn't he?
