I was born when I Should Be So Lucky went to #1, and somehow I didn't discover Kylie until Spinning Around (at which point I was 12)! That is to say, all of her 80s/90s hits, I didn't experience them in real time. It surprises me that Give Me Just a Little More Time returned her to the Top 2. What made that one connect in particular? Did the song just seem to make sense in 1992, was the promotion good, did it get better airplay? Did being a cover version help? Also, quite interesting that it managed to do as well as it did as a post-album release. Not that the album did very well so maybe it didn't matter that it was already on the album. kink But yeah, it just strikes me as curious that it did as well as it did but maybe I'm lacking some context.

I’ve always put it down to being a cover, much like how Tears On My Pillow did so much better than Never Too Late. I was recently going through all the Top 10 hits starting from 1990 and I was amazed by just how many re-releases were dominating in 1991/92, so it definitely seemed like the charts were going through a nostalgic patch (compared to the more forward-looking 1990).

I think the song was the nearest to the pop girl next door version of Kylie that resonated more than word is out and finer feelings which were probably too mature for her dwindling audience at that time, been a cover version probably helped aswell, i think from the songs on the album it was seen as the safe bet single. Im old enough to remember these releases in real time and i remember been so happy to see Kyle back in the top 2 again as it was her first top 2 in a while.

I think I read in the '92 chart thread in the retro forum that it was attached to an advert, although I'm not 100% on this.

This all makes a lot of sense! Regarding cover versions, interesting that lightning didn't strike twice for Kylie in 1992, with Celebration only making it to #20.

That's probably her worst ever single!

Yeah, I'd probably have to agree with that. It was such a pointless cover. I was glad it (very narrowly) managed to continue her unbroken run of top 20 singles though!

GMJALMT was used in an Accurist watch advert. I don’t think it was the reason the single did better though. Might have helped.

I think it was more that the song was released in January, it’s very catchy unlike Word is Out, she promoted it quite hard and the video stood out.

Being a chart watcher it was exciting when she went in at 5 after a period of declining chart positions and then climbed to 2. The pop mags were very complimentary too.

Funny, being so young myself it seemed that she’d been around forever in 1992 and the general media consensus was it was ‘amazing’ she was able to do so well 4 years after Lucky and was already moving into chart legend territory.

I think it done well because Kylie had moved too quickly for her audience at the time - they still wanted that pop/PWL sound and WDIHTD, WIO and Shocked wasn’t that (as bizarre as it sounds to say that now!).
