April 23Apr 23 The winner may get a £20 Amazon voucher but they will still never have enjoyed the sweet feeling of owning the Rebecca Ferguson Lobster.
April 23Apr 23 NOoooooooooooooooooo!!!!!Congrats @Julian_you’ve done good with them!! The Shayne Ward of the Pop Factor Edited April 23Apr 23 by ElectroBoy
April 23Apr 23 Well played Julian!I've been quite vocal over the course of the contest that I'm not the biggest fan of ABBA, but you played it almost perfectly and in the final you definitely had the best songs - and I really liked The Day Before You Came, even if it did almost get you knocked out!!
April 23Apr 23 24 minutes ago, Scene said:It was on my provisional song list for the live show rounds but it’s performance in the recent Number 8 single rate put me off. Plus I don’t like it. Well you and they and anything not choosing Stronger are / is / will always be WRONG! 😑 😭😝
April 23Apr 23 Congrats to @Julian_ and ABBA! A few interesting choices that I wouldn't consider and was thinking were less "safe" (such as 'Eagle' and 'The Day Before You Came') but otherwise, ABBA were undeniable! Edited April 23Apr 23 by AllStarBySmashMouth Grammar fix
April 23Apr 23 My votes in the final wereLilyKellyABBAI didn’t massively feel Sober. It built up, but Lily was the stand out. Oddly I had Lily last in the Final Part 1 Edited April 23Apr 23 by ElectroBoy
April 23Apr 23 Author The total arrogance of @Julian_ winning that I also created this graphic earlier in case a flurry of last minute votes changed the outcome I will post more shortly to summarise the season, and with the results of the Semi Final and both parts of the Grand Final for you all to see (and something else 👀), but for now MASSIVE congratulations Julian!! and commiserations to Scene and Joseph, who both did phenomenally well!!
April 23Apr 23 Congratulations Julian!! Really well played with some intriguing choices along the way, and so many more classics that could've been used. Controversially I've never actually been much of an ABBA fan I'm afraid, but I'm glad my favourite (Gimme) was given an outing. I've added your Pop Factor widget!Commiserations to Scene, you played a blinder and I wouldn't have been at all surprised if you'd taken it home a second year running! My Lily post is incoming when I finish typing it x
April 23Apr 23 Called it! Congrats @Julian_, that was a stellar performance throughout and a very well deserved winner in Abba! I can now at least say that my act of The Weeknd was only eliminated because he got drawn against the future winners in the knockout round, that makes me feel better! And a massive thank you once again to @Calum, I don't know how you managed to find the time and dedication for an even bigger second season but I'm sure it must be rewarding feeling all that Pop Factor love from everyone I already can't wait for the next season and I don't know how I'm going to fill the void now for the rest of the year :/
April 23Apr 23 Well done @Julian_ a fantastic choice for the game, Abba are truly one of the all time greats and from what I hear, you didn’t just play it all safe either! 🥰No offence to the other two competitors but when I saw The winner takes it all was up against the other two songs I genuinely thought that HAS to win it’s such an INCREDIBLE song! Plus I love the tongue in cheek name too, you did indeed take it all! 😂 👏
April 23Apr 23 Hooray, congrats ABBA/Julian! Honestly, there really couldn't have been another winner there, not only was it easily the best song here by a wonderful act with a host of classics, but their mentor has played such a good game withholding the hits at first (something I fell foul too in the first round) and risking some really underrated and inspired picks like The Day Before You Came over Dancing Queen or Mamma Mia. I think I was most sad to not see Fernando as that would probably be my favourite song from them, but there's never going to be room for all of them and the songs you did send were almost always ranked highly by me.Had Kelly sent Breakaway, it may have been closer but this one wasn't really for me I'm afraid and I've never been a fan of Hard Out Here, but well done to Scene and Joseph, it's been really great reminding myself of both artists at their best (and that last one was probably the only blip for Lily here, I've never realised how much I enjoy most of her work, helps that you didn't go for Somewhere Only We Know!)
April 23Apr 23 Well done Julian/ABBA! On paper they probably have the strongest catalogue of all the artists sent, but as we know, it's all about song choice in this competition and I really admire the way you weaved some underrated gems like Eagle and The Day Before You Came In, not to mention those tracks right at the start which put ABBA immediately in jeopardy, yet left their huge hits open for the latter rounds - so well played strategically and this final song was of course the obvious and best choice. ABBA still have about 15 big hits or classic songs in the tank unused too!I was 100% sure you were ABBA from the first round (for some reason it always sticks in my head that you ranked Agnetha as your all-time third favourite female artist in a Gezza rank, so stands to reason the group must be a big favourite), but Scene and Joseph being Kelly and Lily I hadn't called until recently. Kelly is the only other artist that could have beaten ABBA but it would have definitely taken Since U Been Gone to do it, so as that was used in the battle rounds this top three outcome felt like a very clear result to me (and tbh even then I'm not certain that could even get past The Winner Takes It All, but it would have been a closer battle). Nevertheless I love that Sober finally got its moment and Scene you played some cool choices, especially from the brilliant My December, plus Piece by Piece, the string of smashes from Breakaway and so many more <3I ranked them 1) ABBA, 2) Kelly, 3) Lily, but the first two are all-time favourites <3 Never really been that much into Hard Out Here but Joseph has played Lily so brilliantly (I was so sure you were Atomic Kitten for almost the whole thing!). Showcasing a lot of the best album of last year, plus some great cuts from across all of her other eras.Very well played all of you, and of course, biggest thanks and congrats to Calum for the herculean effort involved in this and amazing hosting. I loved being part of it this time! I knew Delta never stood a chance but I couldn't not play her, with the opportunity to share so many of my all-time faves. Going to have a think for next year on who could potentially be competitive but who I also love (and also from a different category). Edited April 23Apr 23 by gooddelta
