51. Bus Stop featuring Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting 85pts

Writer - Carl Douglas

Top points - CowTzy 25, Paddington James 17, Jason 14

Kung Fu Fighting was a number 1 single in 1974 for Carl Douglas. His vocals were sampled in this version by Bus Stop with added raps from Daz Sampson who has already appeared in the first round with 'Teenage Life'. Bus Stop had two more top 40 hits with versions of 'You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet' and Van Halen's 'Jump'.

Pleased not to have lost any on day 1! I saw lots of my favourites getting lots of points - so hopefully most of them will make it through.

Expected my wildcard to come last but it is what it is. Always loved the James Bond movies and its theme and Moby's version is one of the best renditions! Much prefer "Extreme Ways" though which also ended up soundtracking another awesome film series (Bourne). Not bothered about the rest of the tracks that went out here, surprised Chris Brown ended up in the semis

50. Everything But The Girl - Wrong 92pts

Writers - Tracey Thorn, Ben Watt

Top points - AH Gold 19, Jester 17, Liamski689 16

'Wrong' was jszmiles' wild card but he didn't vote in this semi-final so it can't avoid a Monday exit. It was the third in a run of three consecutive top 10 hits for the duo from Hull in the mid 90s to add to their first one, 'I Don't Want To Talk About It' which had reached number 3 in 1988.

Is my favorite version of "Kung Fu Fighting" as it's associated with one of the best Asian comedy movies x

49. The Stone Roses - Elephant Stone 96pts

Writers - Ian Brown, John Squire

Top points - Jason 24, jimwatts 20, DaTilt 17

The Stone Roses fail to get two songs into the final as Elephant Stone falls here. First released in 1988, it wasn't a hit until it was re-issued in 1990. The recording was produced by New Order's Peter Hook in his own studio.

Taken from Taylor Swift's 2024 album, 'The Tortured Poets Department', this is the highest placed of the five wild cards.

47. Nicki Minaj - Super Bass 125pts

Writers - Onika Maraj, Daniel Johnson, Esther Dean, Roahn Hylton, Jeremy Coleman

Top points - Alex! 21, Mack 20, AaronTM 19

Super Bass had a steady climb up the chart, taking 13 weeks to ascend to its peak position and giving Nicki Minaj her first top 10 single as the lead artist.

I really liked the song at the time. There wasn't much like it in the charts at the time. Thought it was never going to be top 10 it stayed for ages just outside the top 10.

Starships was a Nikki novelty rap song too far for me though!

46. Depeche Mode - In Your Room 131pts

Writer - Martin Gore

Top points - King Rollo 22, Julian 20, dandy* 20

Like the Stone Roses, Depeche Mode will just have one song in the final as In Your Room drops out. It was the fourth single to be taken from 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion'. My own score of 22 is based on the album version. The song was remixed for the single release and I think this version lacks the punch and scale of the original recording.

45. Daryl Hall & John Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) 139pts

Writers - Sara Allen, Daryl Hall, John Oates

Top points - Liamski689 22, Uls2000 21, Yog1963 20, ...ready for it 20

From 1981 and hitting the chart in 1982, this was the first of just two top 10 hits for the duo from Philadelphia. It was also their fourth US number 1 single. At the recording of 'We Are The World' a few years later, Michael Jackson admitted to Daryl Hall that he had copied the bassline for his own song 'Billie Jean'.

Lost a few since last post - "Wrong" is just as good as "Missing" for me! Elephant Stone is alright but not one of my Stone Roses favourites. Thought In Your Room would be a shoe in for the final but clearly not. I Can't Go For That is super catchy. Glad Super Bass is out, always hated Nicki
