Allegedly he was attacked because he had taken to wearing a shirt like the ones the girls were famously photoed in which was perceived as mocking them all these years later.

  • Yeah it's kind of how I feel as well. An absolute scumbag, but the guy who murdered him was also a complete scumbag who commited a horrendous crime. The only difference is one was national news for we

  • I know what he meant. I also think it's borderline obsessive and disturbing to be bringing up unrelated murderers and essentially hoping that the same will happen to them. It isn't a positive outcome

I remember hearing about this while at my grandparents house during that 2002 summer holiday - probably the first true crime case I was aware of. I was 8 and it scared me ****less, especially considering my sister was the same age as Holly & Jessica. RIP girls. 😢

Yeah he can rot.

That image is truly ingrained into me. I remember it being absolutely everywhere back in the summer of 2002. I'll never forget it.

No that's incorrect. That was late last year and he was seen on CCTV with it on in his cell. It's not known if any other prisoners saw it on him and an enquiry was launched by the Governor in to how he got it. A Man U,. No.10 shirt was immediately confiscated with him claiming he had a right to wear it and demanding to see the Governor. Was in the papers at the time. He was obviously wearing it to wind staff and other lags up.

Apparently Wayne Cousins is very worried now.

Some ridiculous views on other forums and SM. Attacker shouldn't be charged with anything, Maxine should still be in jail.

I feel for his family (including his daughter) and more than anyone else in all this I just hope the British press respect the families of Holly and Jessica as this case is about to be right back within the media again. That’s my only real take of this.

whether or not this waste of oxygen survives, and I give very little thought as to whether that will be the case, we shouldn't be hearing about murders in prison, wasn't even six months ago Ian Watkins was murdered.

How was a convicted killer in the vicinity of him and other killers able to pick up a metal pole? Was in the workshop but something is wrong there. Bet you the Governor has some questions to answer when he's hauled in before the Justice Sec. Supposedly the most secure jail and that's why such people were in there.

An eye for an eye makes the world blind, but am not exactly gonna complain that this rancid sack of piss is no longer breathing

Like a few here, as a millennial I vividly remember this case back in 2002

You gotta feel for the families of Holly and Jessica you just know the Press is gonna milk the shit out of this, and they are gonna have to go through the whole ordeal again, they might get a tiny bit of comfort from him being dead but horrendous memories are gonna be brought straight back up

To be fair, the attacker is already serving a whole life order. It's not like they can add anything to his sentence, so he probably felt like he had nothing to lose.

That's one reason why I think whole life sentences should be used sparingly.

His attacker, Anthony Russell, came here from Coventry. He was convicted of murdering a man who he believed slept with his girlfriend, his mother, and an unrelated 5 month pregnant woman (who he also raped).

Shame Robert Thompson and Jon Venables got given new identities

Agreed but if they hadn't they'd be dead within days or weeks.

Maxine Carr is rumoured to be living abroad.

Shame because of what? What is the implication here?

God I absolutely despise the obsession culture has with murderers, despise them but also forget them - they deserve nothing less.

Holly and Jessica would have been about my age had they lived and lost however many years of life in the future, that's the biggest tragedy here, not whatever happens to the monster that murdered them or any like him.

I think that's obvious. 😉

A prison inmate has been charged with the murder of Soham killer Ian Huntley, police have said.

Anthony Russell, 43, will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court via video link on Wednesday, a spokesman for Durham Constabulary said.

Huntley died on Saturday following an attack at HMP Frankland in County Durham at the end of February.
