March 9Mar 9 Author I'm at the mercy of the rush#24. Vertigo - 7.562Highest Scores: 8/8.5: (Paddington James, Jessie Where, ...readyforit, JosephStyles, HarryGarfield, AllStarBySmashMouth, Liam.k), Lowest Scores: 6.5: (Viper, Jade, dandy)At #24 is the highest ranking song not to get a score over 8, 'Vertigo', released in April 2025 as the 3rd single from Sophie's 8th studio album 'Perimenopop' and peaked at #81 on the UK download charts and at #84 on the UK singles sales chart. The song was written by Sophie herself alongside Hannah Robinson, and James Greenwood, with the latter serving as the producer of the song, with additional production of Richard Jones. Another strong single choice from the album (the gift that just kept on giving), a smooth electropop disco track with intense beats and fabulous energy. A great song nothing more, nothing less. Quite surprised that it got this high without any scores higher than an 8, but it didn't really get any low scores either.#23. Starlight - 7.562Highest Scores: 10: (Jessie Where), Lowest Scores: 4: (dandy)At #23 is 'Starlight' which scored the same as #24 but placed higher due to it getting a high score of 10. Released in June 2011 as the overall 6th and final single from her 4th studio album 'Make A Scene' and didn't exactly set the charts alight by only manging to chart on the UK Indie chart and Italian airplay charts. The song also served as the lead single in Australia and Italy in September 2011 and was her first single as an independent artist with her label EBGB's. A wistful and vibrant dance pop number that compliments her vocal style rather well and feels very similar to her other hit 'Bittersweet' which is from the same album, but not quite as flashy or memorable.
March 10Mar 10 'Starlight' is amazing and deserves higher.'Runaway Daydreamer' is absolutely lovely and my favourite from Wanderlust.
March 10Mar 10 Author I tried to make it backWhen every door was closed#22. Off & On - 7.566Highest Scores: 9: (Paddington James, Josh, Viper), Lowest Scores: 5: (dandy)At #22 is 'Off & On', released in April 2011 as the 5th single from Sophie's 4th studio album 'Make A Scene'. The song was produced and co-written by Calvin Harris alongside Cathy Dennis and was first recorded by Roisin Murphy for her 'Overpowered', but was cut from the final tracklist and it was then offered to Sophie Ellis-Bextor who was a bit apprehensive about recording songs that she didn't write. A demo version was added to Sophie's MySpace in July 2008 alongside 'Heartbreak (Made Me A Dancer)'. The song was only given a release in Russia as a digital download and only received airplay there where it peaked within the top 50 on the airplay charts. Sophie did perform the song on various talk shows in the UK. despite it not being released there.Given Calvin Harris's involvement not sure why this was left in the dust as it could have easily been a chart hit if it followed 'Heartbreak (Made Me Dancer)', especially if it was credited as a Calvin Harris feature. A strong offering from 'Make A Scene' with its heavy dance beats, distinctive harpsichord sounds and high energy retro flavour, this is an underrated gem in Sophie's back catalogue and a lost potential to be a hit.
March 10Mar 10 Author #21 will be posted later this evening along with a results recap of 21-29, just before we get into the top 20.
March 10Mar 10 ‘Off & On’ passed me by at the time but is a dead ringer for Kylie’s ‘In My Arms’ sonically, so the Calvin connection makes sense.Perhaps it was a bit dated by the time 2011 rolled around as that was a good few years after the Kylie single.
March 10Mar 10 Author Wherever we go is so immaterial#21. Relentless Love - 7.593Highest Scores: 9: (Scene), Lowest Scores: 6: (Viper)Just missing the top 20 at #21 is 'Relentless Love', released in March 2025 as the 2nd single from Sophie's 8th studio album 'Perimenopop' and was written by Sophie herself alongside Samuel Robert Knowles, Janée Millicent Lucy Bennett, and Baz Kaye. The track was co-produced by Kaye and Knowles (under his stage name Karma Kid), with additional production by Richard Jones. Upon its release the song was met with positive reviews and it manages to peak at #42 on the UK Download charts and #47 on the UK Singles Sales Chart.A solid little disco bop with a fun catchy vibe and a euphoric chorus. Another solid gem from Sophie's later career. Edited March 10Mar 10 by Nina West

March 10Mar 10 I wasn't that sold on 'Relentless Love' before the album release, but it does make a really nice album opener! The chorus could do with being a bit stronger though.
March 11Mar 11 Author It's like a secret we holdAnd the adventures we go on are untold#20. Wild Forever - 7.6Highest Scores: 10: (Paddington James), Lowest Scores: 5: (Jester)As we now enter into the top 20 with the stunning little gem 'Wild Forever', released in January 2017 as the 3rd single from Sophie's 6th studio album 'Familia'. The track was highlighted by reviewers as a standout and its music video was filmed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Part of it was filmed in Casa Kimberly, the residence of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in the sixties. Cinematography was undertaken by John Pérez.A firm highlight on 'Familia' that opens the album with its upbeat sound, sparkling synths, driving power chords and anthemic melodies. The song bridges the gap between her earlier electronic sound with the more organic approach of her later career. Edited March 11Mar 11 by Nina West
