'Cruel Summer' quite rightfully finishing higher than 'Venus' but still about 20 places too low for what is one of my favourite songs of the 80s and my 50 pointer sad weirdly the first version of the song I ever heard was 'Cruel Summer '89' which was Stock Aitken Waterman's new jack swing remix of it and I loved that until I heard the original which I grew to love even more!

'Wanna Be Startin' Something' is good but not top tier Jacko for me.

'Walking On Sunshine' is very fun and feelgood, as gasman says a great example of 80s pop!

  • Yes, I can confirm I'll be hosting the number 9 poll next year.

  • Or maybe Bananarama's version leans in more to people's pop tastes rather than being to do with recency? A 40 year old song isn't really that much more recent compared to a 56 year old song!

Cruel Summer is one of my all time favorites also Karate Kid haha😎

I’m surprised it only reached number 8 in the UK.Should be higher on that list.

I gave Cruel Summer 49 points ❤️

Walking on Sunshine is really a fun song a great pop song. The Song was also heard in the movie with Michael J Fox The Secret Of My Success also one of my all time favorites movies ❤️

In contrast to last night, 3 songs I'm very meh about falling here. Cruel Summer the best of them - the other two were among the weakest in the final imo

I feel sad that ‘Cruel Summer’ didn’t make the top half. But still some great songs left to come.

"Walking On Sunshine" and "Cruel Summer" the biggest losses here. Also like "Wonderful Life". "Venus" (The Bananarama Version), "Bat Out Of Hell", "Wanna Be Startin' Something" and "I Miss You" not among my favourites.

Tom DeLonge's "Don't waste your time on me, you're already, the voice inside my YEEEEAD" delivery on 'I Miss You' is legendary

'Cruel Summer' is my favourite to drop out since I last commented. It's a great 'sad banger' with the melancholy lyrics yet nonchalant delivery and bouncy new wave sound. Probably the Bananarama song I'm most fond of although I do really like 'Robert De Niro's Waiting' and the Fun Boy Three collabs too.

Bananaramas contribution to It Ain’t What You Do is my earliest radio memory.

Great song! Our Lips Are Sealed would be my absolute favourite Fun Boy Three single.

This was Kylie Minogue's 35th top 10 hit and her first since 2011. She joined Cher, Lulu and Diana Ross on the list of female singers with top 10 singles across five consecutive decades.

Taken from their third album 'Absolution', Time Is Running Out was Muse's twelfth single and the first to reach the top 10. They went on to have three further top 10 hits.

My list of least favourite Muse songs correlates closely with their list of highest charting songs 😅.

This is fine, but compared to most of the rest of Absolution, pretty mid. If only Stockholm Syndrome or Butterflies and Hurricanes had been the lead single... 😍

This Charming Man was The Smiths' first top 40 single, reaching number 25 in 1983. It was reissued in 1992 to promote the 'Best... I' compilation album released by the new owners of their back catalogue, WEA, and gave the group their highest peak position on the singles chart. Two scores of 50 mean that it wins a tie-break over 'Time Is Running Out'.

I love plenty of Kylie songs (with 'Slow' being my absolute favourite) and 'Padam Padam' making the top 10 was a pretty remarkable chart moment, but I don't particularly rate it that much as a song - especially up against all these classics.

'This Charming Man' has got to be my favourite to fall today. -swings gladioli around-

I genuinely love ‘Padam Padam’. It still excites me when I hear it. But it clearly divides Buzzjack - or maybe Kylie does. She has divided the music listening audience since the start of her career.

Is 4 the record number of last places?

Plug in Baby is my peak Muse!

Walking on Sunshine and Bat Out of Hell are my favourites to fall before the top 20, both over the top and cheesy in their own ways, but they always bring my spirits up. This Charming Man is also a real classic that deserved top 20.
