Hi, here is your Alanis Morissette singles rate. Thanks @awardinary for giving the okay (why would it not be okay tbh? 😁).

First some housekeeping. While I chose not to include them here, Alanis did release some singles in Canada pre-Jagged Little Pill which are fun to check out as they are completely different to her later sound (mainly dance-pop). I believe both of the pre-JLP albums are on YouTube (they're not on Spotify), go check them out if you're intrigued! You might be shocked 😆

Additionally, I decided not to include her Christmas singles or certain other non-album singles (hope that's okay!). I did include her popular Seal cover 'Crazy', as well as 'Uninvited' which was a soundtrack single from the movie City of Angels. Also, it is kinda sad to just do a singles rate as she has a great discography beyond her singles, but it's just easier to do it this way I guess.

Please rate each song from 0 to 10, with one optional 11 and one optional -1. Please no .5 ratings (unless there are major objections lol). Post your ratings in this thread.

If you haven't heard a song, I do recommend listening to it first and giving a rating even just based on first impression, but you are allowed to skip some songs too if you want.

ALTHOUGH I already am nonplussed by these comparatively low scores for Underneath

Ooh this'll be good. Shall be rating and gives a good opportunity to check songs I don't know. I did buy a GH of hers in Brighton last year which I also must check. 'Hands Clean' the only single of hers I bought. Superb track.

Commiserations to songs like 'I Miss The Band', 'Rest' and 'Olive Branch' which were standalone piano ballads she released during Covid times. I just didn't feel compelled to include them here even though I quite like them myself.

It has been a minute since i have listened Flavors and Havoc. I think Flavors is a pretty good record but i will not be saying the same to Havoc. Thank god for Such Pretty Forks in the Road.

Never managed to get into Havoc and Bright Lights and hearing the singles on their own isn't doing anything for me either sadly, it's by far my least favourite album of hers. Hands Clean gets my 11 just because it has a lot of special memories attached to it, fun times... but it could easily have gone to Underneath, You Oughta Know or Thank U.
