Biography

Tame Impala transformed psychedelic rock—and 21st century pop—in such an impactful way that even Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Kanye couldn’t resist the band's influence. The brainchild of Australian musician Kevin Parker, Tame Impala serve as both a blistering and blissed-out exercise in expansion—of sound, space, and the mind. “I’m the most creative when I’m uncomfortable,” Parker told Apple Music. “The idea of doing what I’m already good at is boring because it’s always gotta be a little bit frightening.” That fear has been a powerful motivator for Parker, who started Tame Impala in 2007 from his Perth home. His appetite for guitar experimentation—powered by an arsenal of reverb, phaser, delay, and fuzz pedals—made his 2010 debut album, InnerSpeaker, one of the year’s standout indie releases. On 2012’s Lonerism, he loaded up on synths, found inspiration in Todd Rundgren, and locked into woozy pop grooves made of both dreams (“Be Above It”) and nightmares (“Feels Like We Only Go Backwards”). He also got far more personal. As Parker has looked further inward, his music—and musical circle—has continued to expand outward. By the mid-2010s, he was collaborating with Mark Ronson, producing Gaga, and inspiring Rihanna (who covered “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”). But Tame Impala has remained his “sacred space,” an outlet that has allowed him to embrace funk (2015’s Currents), dance music (2020’s The Slow Rush), and all the infinite possibilities yet to be discovered. - Apple Music

wouldn't be shocked if Dracula goes on ACR next week, Shame since I love the song but it's had a much better run that I thought it would.

Originally thought it would've been around the #21 to #30 area, but the Jennie remix really boosted it.

Biography

When it comes to growing up in public, the man known worldwide as the King of Pop wrote the book. Born in Gary, IN, in 1958, Michael Jackson became the biggest-selling, most broadly beloved singer on the planet, but when he started his career, he was just the kid trying to catch up with his big brothers. In 1964 he started playing percussion in The Jackson Brothers, but by the time they became the Jackson 5 the following year, little Michael was already contributing lead vocals. The group became a Motown hit machine in 1970 with pop-soul smashes like “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There.” Michael’s undeniable vocal charisma made a solo career inevitable, and his began in 1971. He scored a few major hits early on, but he really exploded with 1979’s Off the Wall, a funk-pop-disco marvel that marked Jackson’s full musical maturation. Its 1982 follow-up, Thriller, became a full-blown international phenomenon with mega-singles including “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” and the title track, literally becoming the best-selling album ever. Following it wasn’t easy, but Jackson managed to keep his vision alive through four more albums and several more hits over the next two decades, until his passing in 2009. - Apple Music

First time all MJ songs in the chart get played in the same week!

Unless I'm mistaken only 2 solo Michael Jackson songs in the top 40? I know Human Nature is likely on ACR this week but seems like no replacement made it too high.

Guitar solo 2 weeks in a row, I'll take it :)

Are we mimicking the running order of Side 2 Thriller or am I crazy? Track 1, Beat It, Track 2 Billie Jean etc...

I have still not recovered from discovering this 'Billie Jean' response song that made #14:

Eamon / Frankee who?

Biography

Armed with a mesmerising, nimble soprano—and a vocal register often likened to those of Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera—Ariana Grande began her career as a child star on Broadway and Nickelodeon before transforming into a pop and R&B powerhouse. Instantly recognisable thanks to her signature ponytail and breezy self-confidence, Grande, born in Florida in 1993, has developed a slyly sexual personal brand that has, like that of the Spice Girls before her, become an iconic image of young female power. But Grande is more than a symbol: over the course of several albums and scores of hit singles across the genre spectrum—beginning with 2013’s R&B crooner “The Way” (featuring Mac Miller) and continuing through to an EDM collab with Zedd (“Break Free”), slinky retro-soul (“Dangerous Woman”) and diva trap-pop (“7 rings”)—she has consistently outshined her male collaborators and deftly parlayed her stardom into activism. An LGBTQ+ advocate and outspoken feminist, she has long used her platform to confront misogyny, sexism, homophobia and bullying, spreading a message of love over all. Her Max Martin-produced smash “no tears left to cry”, an escapist dance-floor triumph released a year after a deadly terrorist attack at one of her concerts in 2017, and its subsequent album, Sweetener, sent a message of hope and healing, with a dose of hear-me-roar attitude. Grande’s pop vision has since focused inward, using music as a therapeutic tool for spiritual growth. After experiencing a devastating personal loss with the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller in 2018, she re-emerged with 2019’s thank u, next, an elegiac album that was as therapeutic as it was dance-ready, with a title track that sends off ex-lovers with a gentle kiss on the cheek. The following year’s pandemic-written Positions highlights Grande’s mellifluous vocals and her desire to be content in love—even when boasting about her sexual prowess (as on the cheeky “34+35”), the real star of her heart is her own self. And on her lush, auto-fictitious 2024 concept album, eternal sunshine, she glides with a coy smile and a heavenly whistle through the emotions of a woman betrayed, perceived and adored, with a short wave to critics and tabloids on the pulsing house groove of “yes, and?” - Apple Music
