That’s the one. Wet Wet Wet might have beaten Bryan Adams’ record if they didn’t withdraw Love Is All Around. You’d think they’d wanna go for the record but they themselves got sick of being number 1

Wet Wet Wet was a gimmick that it was withdrawn to try and stay at the top to match Bryan Adams and beat the incoming threat of Whigfield.

Even after it was ‘withdrawn’ it still managed to achieve a chart run of: 2-4-8-16-21-35-39…. so there was still plenty of stock available.

I really don't get why the point of Sam/Rein Me In not being as big in the States as they are here is being brought up repeatedly

This literally isn't relevant, let it go. Also since when has the chart been a ranking of the biggest names in music? Being #1 doesn't mean you're bigger than Taylor Swift as an artist, it just means

Heatwaves is in the Apple Music and Spotify charts

I just hope Heat Waves doesn’t get a reset. I was tortured enough by it in 2021 and 2022. Shame Wiley is doing nothing on the other hand

Wiley doesn't deserve anything

It actually sold more in the week it was knocked off the top than in any week it was number one - even without the announcement of its "deletion" it wasn't going to beat Bryan Adams

Wet Wet Wet didn’t beat Bryan Adams but on total sales, Love Is All Around actually sold more than Everything I Do I Do It For You

Shame he stopped Calvin Harris & Example from going number 1. Both songs are good but We’ll Be Coming Back is better and shame they decided to release at the same time

I still haven't heard that album, but by the time it came around in 2011 it was 4 years later and they felt like ancient history by then.

You're not missing that much but it does have a few decent tracks so still worth a listen I'd say

If Rein Me In does not reach 16 weeks, Last Christmas by Wham will

I think their label will start to get more aggressive each year to keep it the top Christmas track and end up the longest running UK #1 (6 weeks behind Frankie Laine).

There seems to be more promo/formats for it each year.

I hope so. But it never seems as ‘aggressive’ as Mariah’s publicity. And also, the marketing doesn’t reach the public consciousness as much.

Yes, you’ve got things like the ‘Last Christmas’ movie, and ongoing marketing throughout the year, such as the two Wham! documentaries and the ‘Last Christmas’ documentary - but I think it’s more a case of the fact that the marketing is low-level but sustained.

Btw - Happy 63rd birthday to George Michael for yesterday.

Oh yeah the aggressive mariah campaigning and thankfully for the first year last year it failed 🙌🙌

I'm surprised Olivia's team aren't popping out some physicals for Stupid Song or dropping additional versions and the price on iTunes. Sales are super low at the moment so she could easily nab the #1.

Her team isn’t good at their jobs. Especially stateside, this album has been severely mishandled.

I wish my faves would mishandle albums so sales are over 100k in their first week
