  • No more divided attention from here on in. All games will have their own unique kick-off times.

  • I dreamed of Japan doing this. Hold please.

The Germany v Paraguay match was so dull during the first 90 minutes but really brought the drama in ET and penalties! Some of those penalty misses (from both sides) were truly cringe-inducing. 😭 Sadly couldn’t stay awake for Morocco vs Netherlands but just watched the highlights and looked like another entertaining finish.

Hoping we get a lot more matches going to penalties tbh. 🤭

I think there's a reasonable chance more than half of KO games will likely go all way to pens.

Most teams are simply playing not to lose at this stage and risking nothing to avoid conceding silly goals. And then Extra Time is virtually completely useless, you rarely see any goals ever. I think it should just go straight to penalties after 90 minutes.

Not sure I agree about games going straight to pens after 90 minutes. I think it encourages defensive play.

Paraguay are exceptional defensively so not really sure why people expected a bang average Germany team with guile but no striker to beat Paraguay in 90 minutes. That USA result was a complete anomaly. Think they will give France a hard time too.

Not surprised about the Morocco and Netherlands game either. Netherlands are bang average and Morocco are probably the best African team in the competition. It’s good to have a shock of two, but think most of the other big European teams should get get through now.

I wasn't a big watcher of football before today but penalty shoot outs alone are brilliant!

i'm howling at most of the predictions saying the netherlands will advance. i hardly see any predicting morocco through on twitter ijbol

In the "Who will win the 2026 World Cup?" thread here I used FIFA's bracket challenge to make pre-tournament predictions and I had Morocco beating Netherlands there. I also had a strong feeling that the match would go to extra time as they are two evenly matched teams.

Netherlands continue to be the biggest underachievers in international football, all the great players they've had in their history and still no World Cup title to show for it.

Indeed, at least they have that one Euros title or else it really would be an injustice! Never fancied them at all this year though.

I do think Netherlands are a bit better than are sometimes given credit for, a penalties QF loss and 90th min SF loss in the last 2 tournaments they could easily have had more. Groups F & C being matched up definitely made it harder for how they were drawn, think the four qualifiers were all in the best 16 teams in the tournament

Wow at Germany, though at the same time I'm almost not surprised as they constantly seem to underperform since their win, also with the way the draw went, it did seem they would've been out for sure against France next round (watch Sweden get through now I've said that x).

German economist Joachim Klement who used a mathematical model to predict the outcome of the world cup and accidentally was completely spot on in predicting the winners of the last three tournaments predicted Netherlands this year...given he himself knew it was irrational, he'll probably be very pleased x

Surprised we went straight to penalties so early and two in a row, surely it can't be third in a row
