Aww I really liked Perfection, the backing track is really good in that trying to recreate Lola's Theme vibe she was going for in the mid-00s. Over was a good track too, I bought both of these on sin

19 Lindsay Lohan - Over

avg: 5.26

👑 Pop Royalty8 (...ready for it, gooddelta, AllStarBySmashMouth, Tafty, JosephStyles), 7 (Doug, Josh!, DaTilt, Lee_J11, Viper*, troublepink, pavi)

 Pop Flop-1 (Dobbo), 0 (lewistgreen)

It's swiftly over for Lindsay Lohan as she departs the rate in last place, with a 5.26 average. This is higher than Verbalicious' rock bottom 4.92 average last time but Atomic Kitten's 'Ladies Night' can boast the strongest last place average in this series, as theirs was 5.34 in the inaugural Pop Princesses rate.

2004 was a highly memorable period in LiLo's career as she not only starred as Cady Heron in Mean Girls, but also launched a singing career. Then 18-year-old Lohan experimented with pop-rock sounds, typical for teen idols at the time, in addition to more of a dance-pop direction. Her song 'Rumors' fell in the latter camp and was chosen as the first single from debut album Speak. This feisty lead addressed her relationship with the paparazzi and was written with a team including Taryll and T. J. Jackson from the group 3T, two of Michael Jackson's nephews - so came from a family with their own well documented history with the media. This song impacted some charts around the world but missed both the Billboard Hot 100 and U.K. Singles chart. Follow-up 'Over' still couldn't quite crack the U.S. but did give Lindsay a moment in the sun here in the United Kingdom.

This sophomore single was written by Lohan, Kara DioGuardi and John Shanks, plus produced by the latter two. The DioGuardi/Shanks writing team previously appeared in the Pop Princesses series as they were behind 'Pieces of Me' by Ashlee Simpson too. So they were slowly establishing a pop-rock pedigree that would also include hit-making for the likes of Hilary Duff and Kelly Clarkson. Lohan had a bit of experience with rockier sounds, as she was part of fictional group Pink Slip in the film Freaky Friday, so this sonic shift from the dance-pop lead wasn't too unexpected. 'Over' is written about an on/off relationship with a partner. Lohan stated that the track was about her real life break-up with fellow actor Wilmer Valderrama in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

Kara DioGuardi also provided backing vocals for 'Over' while John Shanks plays the bass, guitar and keyboards on it. DJ and producing legend Dave Audé was involved with the engineering.

The music video is inspired by American Beauty and was directed by Jake Nava, who also directed the videos for Mis-teeq's 'Scandalous' and Beyoncé's 'Crazy In Love' from previous rates.

'Over' is Lindsay Lohan's sole entry in the U.K. top 40 as it entered and peaked at #27. This chart week in 2005 was Tony Christie and Peter Kay's final week at #1 with '(Is This The Way to) Amarillo'. Lohan can boast a higher charting 'Over' than Drake's in the U.K., as his stalled at #50 here, but Portishead's song of the same name has the best peak of them all - pipping her at #25.

Lindsay may be the first to go but some posters did appreciate this song, particularly: ...ready for it, gooddelta, AllStarBySmashMouth, Tafty and JosephStyles, who gave it an 8. Meanwhile, I'm sure Dobbo will be pleased that it's over for this song already, as he gave Lohan his lowest possible mark of -1.

Poor Lindsay cheeseblock

Whilst it’s nothing groundbreaking, it’s perfectly fine and doesn’t really deserve its last place!

When it came to last place, Lindsay Lohan had it locked up, like... herself (more Mr Worldwide relevance after the 'On The Floor' resurgence).

I didn't remember 'Over' from when it came out - it's OK but nothing special.

It's not too bad but I'm not exactly gonna complain about it coming last. I felt like this would be a lot bigger at the time and its #27 shocked me, should've just given 'Rumours' a full proper release instead.

Wasn't a bad sonv but I hadn't heard of it before and didnt feeel like a aong I'd give a higher score than most

not surprised this is last

18 Louise - Pandora's Kiss

avg: 5.64

👑 Pop Royalty9 (Josh!), 8.5 (JosephStyles, HarryInnanen)

Pop Flop2 (ElectroBoy, Julian_), 2.5 (jimwatts)

Next we kiss goodbye to Louise in this rate as she departs with a 5.64 average.

Louise Redknapp (née Nurding) successfully made the transition from girl-group member to solo star, after leaving Eternal in 1995. First album Naked (1996) spawned four top 10 hits including the title track, sophomore release Woman in Me (1996) produced another two and third record Elbow Beach (2000) took her into the next decade successfully, with lead single '2 Faced' becoming her first top 3 hit. A new album called Lil' Lou was planned for 2004 but later shelved after Louise found out she was pregnant. Her fourth album would not actually materialise until 2020 (!) with the release of Heavy Love instead. The later scrapped era from the 2000s produced one double A-side release in 'Pandora's Kiss' / 'Don't Give Up', which instead turned into a standalone single.

'Pandora's Kiss' / 'Don't Give Up' was released in late 2003 and raised money for ASDA's Tickled Pink campaign for Breast Cancer Care. Pop Princesses 3 inclusion 'Pandora's Kiss' was written and produced by a team of Sylvia Bennett-Smith, Reed Vertelney and Robbie Nevil. The latter was a pop star in his own right during the '80s and best known for top 3 hit 'C'est La Vie'. Bennett-Smith and Vertelney have a lot of R&B writing credits to their name, with the former working with acts like Destiny's Child and Jamelia, while the latter penned for Luther Vandross and even Michael Jackson's Invincible album. However, 'Pandora's Kiss' is instead more of a pop-rock swerve for Louise. She taps into Greek mythology by using Pandora's Box as a metaphor to symbolise unpredictable love.

The music video was directed by Trudy Bellinger who has also worked with fellow pop princesses Girls Aloud, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Rachel Stevens. I was unsurprised to learn that Bellinger also directed 'Sexy! No No No...' as this Louise video certainly has some stylistic similarities to that.

'Pandora's Kiss' / 'Don't Give Up' had a blink-or-you'll-miss-it 3 weeks top 40 chart run but was a new top 5 hit for Louise nevertheless. This was her sixth top 5 result as a solo star and a 9th top 10. She debuted at #5 while Black Eyed Peas were parked at the top of the chart with 'Where Is The Love?'. Louise was the third highest new entry that week, behind Rachel Stevens' 'Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex' at #2 and Westlife's 'Hey Whatever' at #4. This bumper week of fresh top 10 hits also saw new entries from Nickelback, Jamelia, So Solid Crew and Limp Bizkit below her.

Josh! was riding the ride and didn't want to get off it; he awarded Louise her highest score of 9. Meanwhile, ElectroBoy and Julian_ are happy to keep Pandora's Box firmly shut, as this got just 2 from them.

17 Dannii Minogue & The Soul Seekerz - Perfection

avg: 5.91

👑 Pop Royalty10 (Josh!), 9 (gooddelta, ElectroBoy)

Pop Flop1 (Henessy Lake), 2 (jimwatts)

Dannii Minogue and The Soul Seekerz were searching for perfection but ultimately had to settle for a 5.91 average.

Minogue began her transition to dance label All Around The World with the single 'You Won't Forget About Me', as featured in the Pop Princesses 2 rate. Her next move was following it up almost an entire year later, towards the end of 2005, with a new single named 'Perfection'. The origins of this song are similar to 'You Won't Forget About Me' as it began its life as an instrumental track. Soul Seekerz member Simon Langford was inspired to sample 'Turn The Beat Around' by Vicki Sue Robinson after watching the end credits of The Specialist, which features the Gloria Estefan version. He phoned songwriting partner and fellow Soul Seeker Julian Napolitano about his idea and Napolitano went ahead and completed a large chunk of the instrumental. Gerald and Peter Jackson, the writers behind 'Turn The Beat Around', have songwriting credits on 'Perfection' due to the use of the sample.

Dannii's label All Around The World approached the Soul Seekerz as they wanted to use their instrumental as part of a track for Minogue. They agreed, so the next job was to put pen to paper and create some lyrics for what would become her new single 'Perfection'. Minogue worked alongside Rob Davis and Therese Grankvist on the lyrics. Davis was a founding member of the glam rock group Mud and already had some Minogue kudos, as a writer and producer for Kylie's 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. He was also part of the writing team for other notable early 2000s dance chart-toppers 'Toca's Miracle' by Fragma and Spiller's 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)', featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Grankvist is best known as the vocalist on StoneBridge's floorfillers 'Put 'Em High' and 'Take Me Away', under the mononymous Therese. All components were now complete and a video, directed by Rob Kaplan, was shot. Minogue can be seen dancing on a yacht and rocky cliff top throughout.

Dannii had experienced a neat little run of top 10 hits, with five in a row from 'Who Do You Love Now?' to 'You Won't Forget About Me', however 'Perfection' brought this to an end when she stalled at #11 on the U.K. Singles chart. It was her 13th top 20 single here. Minogue was the third highest new entry on the chart this week - behind Arctic Monkeys debuting at #1 with 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' and McFly making #3 with 'I Wanna Hold You'.

Josh! found 'Perfection' to be as flawless as its name, awarding it 10/10. However, I'm sure Henessy Lake could happily give this up, as a score of 1 was its lowest.

I’d have put Dannii last 🤣

Lindsay’s is ok

I loved Pandoras Kiss at the time, it was the only Louise single I ever bought and was actually the first song I remember hearing of hers.. although it’s not aged that well
