So race for golden boot is now between two insufferable players, terrific. Would have been a long shot but still

  • I think it depends on your expectations going into the tournament. Croatia in 1998 and Turkey in 2002 were very happy to get 3rd place and the bronze medal because they exceeded their own expectations

This is how England can play in a match that doesn't matter. If only they had pretended that the semi-final didn't matter.

  • England really tried to work out how to embarrass the country even more than on Wednesday at half time...

The race for the Golden Boot between the GOAT Messi and Mbappè, happy days.

Not England's 'greatest player' Kane and Bellingham.

Yeah, third place play-offs are basically friendlies but tougher to stomach after you've been knocked out. I don't see what incentive there really is to play well.

Coming 3rd means you get more FIFA WC points than if you come 4th so can affect your world standing. So there is that.

Almost 2! Who is this team???

A team with less pressure on them, for one.

I mean, if they win this one it'll be the first time they've finished 3rd in a World Cup I guess.

The whole idea of this game feels a bit rubbing salt in the wound though. The semifinals are the worst time to go out.

You can tell by the muted celebrations that they'd still rather not be there.

So England decide to do their inner Brazil 1-7 Germany performance against France in.....

An bronze medal match.

Plus they are proving we rely too much on the likes of Kane and Bellingham and we have other excellent players on the team
