Yes he did sing A Winters Tale. A Christmas staple for me, underrated one for me,

Hold Me Close is quite an poignant song for me as it was played in an montage at an relatives funeral last year, who was an David Essex fan.

Oh he sang Hold me close (don't let me go) too? He is obviously one of those acts I know a few songs by but not familiar with the artist, another great song. I'm sorry to hear about your loss Mack, I have the same poignant feels when The Best by Tina Turner comes on. We played it at my grandfather's funeral as it was his favourite song, then at my wedding as he passed away just a month before we got married. ❤️

Not a vintage trio on Friday, would say 'Billy Don't Be A Hero' is my favourite of those. One of my many ongoing marathons is listening to everything The Beatles ever recorded, including solo, which lead me to discover that Ringo recorded a version of 'Whispering Grass' as well

My highlight from Friday's batch has got to be 'Pop Muzik'! A quirky record indeed and that new wave production is right up my street.

None of the Sunday trio are really my thing but from yesterday 'Message In A Bottle' is fab ❤️

Message In A Bottle would be my favourite of the recent bunches. The Police were a real breath of fresh air in the late 70s charts

It’s Christmas 1971 and this is sitting at No 1.  Erstwhile “Comedian” Hill was enormously popular in the 60s/70s/80s as a prime time entertainer and this track was originally performed in his show in 1970, a quick re-write of some lyrics and we lapped it up on release.  Hill was actually a milkman pre fame (though the tale itself is fictional) and he also scored three top 30 singles in the early 60s proving this was a return to the charts and in some style.

Written and first released by Lally Scott in late 1970 in Italy where he was living, it became a top 20 single for him there but there was little appetite by his record company to release it elsewhere which led to Middle Of The Road picking the track up (they were working in Italy at the time although from Scotland).  It was first released here in early 1971 but did next to nothing until it started to become a hit in Europe which led to a re-issue that May and after just 3 weeks on sale it sat at No 1 championed by Tony Blackburn on Radio 1.  Two more top 10 singles followed then they disappeared by the end of 1972.

Shouldn't do, but I quite liked 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheap Cheap'. I think there was even a Brighton & Hove Albion version that was released in 2004.

One of my earliest memories from watching Top Of The Pops is the video for Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West) being shown every week it was at number 1. I like that Dr Hook song a lot, my favourite by them, just ahead of Sylvia's Mother.

We sang that over and over on the coach going to summer camp in Yr6. Much to the staff's annoyance.

Actually preferred If Not You, the follow-up, and Sexy Eyes to that Dr. Hook one.

I think I can spoil the spoiler - Sylvia's Mother likely didn't out-sell A Little Bit More, just the one week at 2 behind an Osmond which may or may not appear yet 😄
