not 100% playlist related but i’m loving the new hot recurrent (2026) tracks they are bringing in.

The one’s i noticed so far are:

Chris Stassy x Tom Did It - Wide Awake

Harry Styles - Aperture

Olivia Rodrigo - the cure

very nice to potentially get to hear some of these tunes again especially Wide Awake

‘Aperture’ and ‘the cure’ are being played now the other singles have left the playlist.

I do wish they’d vary the recurrents more. It wouldn’t hurt to have some A-list songs from earlier in the year sprinkled in.

  • This song is absolute genius but there's no way R1 were gonna touch it, they would have had to censor it so heavily! My favourite line: "Mom and dad this is Chasey, Chasey this is my mom and dad, now

  • This tune really punished me.

  • R1 Dolly watch: 9 to 5 2 spins I Will Always Live You 1 spin R2 Dolly watch: Light of a Clear Blue Morning 1 spin Love is Like a Butterfly 1 spin Islands in the Stream 1 spin I Will Always Love You

So many great dance songs in late 2000

Radio 1 was like "how many dance songs can we fit into our playlist" lol

But to be fair, 95% of them were hits.

Yeh Storm and Zombie Nation especially were huge at the time and sounded amazing!

2000 was insane for dance songs in the UK chart.

2014 was almost as big for dance hits in the chart as well especially #1s.

Poor MadgeKylie.

They have shown both a lot of previously unforeseen love over recent years considering their (irrelevant) advancing ages and the enormous gaps before they were last playlisted as lead artists so I thought this would get more spins.

Am I right in thinking that went 8-OUT?

I thought they released more physicals?

Anyway, think someone said Bring Your Love had become a R1 recurrent so I am having a bit of that.

It was A-listed after all!

Anyway my late summer/autumn '26 playlist (basically Alternative Now 126) is filling up fast already and it's only August 22nd, I reckon this could be a strong one, tonnes of great dance stuff in particular on the R1 playlist right now.

These are all dance, mix of house, trance, garage, etc.

songs not supported on Radio 1 around this time:

Daphne & Celeste - School's Out

Bloodhound Gang - Ballad Of Chasey Lane

Baby D - Let Me Be Your Fantasy 2000

Hi-Gate - I Can Hear Voices

Madasun - Feel Good

Lil Kim - No Matter What They Say

Lolly - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Yomanda - On The Level

Rollergirl - Dear Jessie

Aaron Carter - I Want Candy

French Affair - My Heart Goes Boom

Vanessa Amorosi - Absolutely Everybody

Sash! - With My Own Eyes

None of the above apart from perhaps Vanessa Amorosi are really essentials, it was everywhere on the Box at the time.

Lots of good dance on that 2000 playlist indeed! Glad the wonderful 'Sincere' by MJ Cole got a better peak after that second push wub

Sash! was surprising considering both Adelante and Just Around The Hill were A-listed that year

How odd, I wonder why they didn't?

Seems impressive it became a top 10 hit without their backing.

Just now, Jessie Where said:

From what I can tell, basically only some push from The Box, it managed 2 weeks on The Box breakers. Radio overall and MTV were not that supportive.

That retro playlist is insanely good! 2000 was definitely one of my favourite years for music.

These are my absolute faves from the list wub

Don't remember that Craig David song at all though, Time To Party?? Pretty sure that wasn't a single so what were R1 doing playlisting it? Or was it cancelled before release or something like that?
