Having slept on it, I must say I’m a bit conflicted with Mother Larsson’s choice. (Yes I’m gonna be THAT guy.. again 😂)

The category is “barely steamed on Spotify” and the rule was that it must appear in the bottom region of the artists Spotify streaming list. Zara is not “barely streamed”, in fact it’s not streamed at all!

Every other act has seemingly gone out of their way to pick an actual flop song and so Zara choice doesn’t really sit well with me and is not really in the spirit of the round.

That being said, the song was probably my favourite of the five. The question is, how do I rank it against the other 4 genuine “flops” 🤔

Also, reinforcing support to Robyn's mentor whoever they are. ❤️

I didn’t say the song must be on Spotify though. And I did already allude that it would be okay to submit something not on Spotify when Rich asked the question (which, imo, surely is more of a risk and puts someone at a likely disadvantage?) If we’re going to call Zara out then we have to call out Texas and Fontaines D.C. because it’s a clever way of getting around it. I don’t think anybody’s really gone out of their way to get a leg up.

Regardless of how it’s been interpreted, it’s not specifically a ‘flops’ theme either.

Well yes, I get that. But there’s wasn’t a rule stating that if the song isn’t on Spotify then it’s not acceptable, therefore people finding a way around that is entirely within the rules because it wasn’t set out.

If there were major problems with any of the songs submitted in any round I’d talk with those concerned. But otherwise I’d hope everyone votes on the quality of the music itself rather than accusing people of deliberately going against the spirit of the round/competition.

I'm just teasing. I don't really care it's just a game, (always got my 5'4 troll's back though 😂).

Also I thought it was Zara's best entry so far and my vote reflects that is all I'm saying. (I'm aware that might make me give away one of my "cryptic" rankings, apologies). ❤️

A lot of acts have b-sides and bonus tracks that aren't on Spotify, which is why I asked that question. I highly doubt most of these would be highly streamed anyway. Imo it's not much different to choosing songs under 100k, unless they are highly regarded fan favourite songs that just don't happen to have made it to Spotify for some reason.

Dear Jimmy (which I'm delighted to see!) kind of fits the latter category as it was on a popular Popjustice compilation 20 years ago and Sophie has since released it as part of two different album reissues (Make A Scene and Read My Lips). It's very popular among her fans but the stream count is only that low and 'a flop' because it only just made it to Spotify earlier this year with the latter reissue. So it's just as much a kind of loophole (being a recent "release" to Spotify for such an old track) as a Zara leak nobody has heard imo. Different people used different loopholes and power to them if they found a way!

01 fabulous discovery! Really wasn't sure what she'd play this round but this was impressive.

02 one of my favourites from the album, good to see this era get some attention finally!

03 this is criminally underrated. Smart play from their mentor!

04 aww the low ranking doesn't reflect my thoughts on this song: one of my favourites of the songs she's played so far. Just a tough round!
