Rihanna on course for 10th week at number one

17 July 2007 - 12:48:51

Source:Musicweek

Rihanna looks set to break Gnarls Barkley’s record for this century’s longest-running number one single, with early sales reports suggesting that Umbrella (Def Jam) will top the chart again this Sunday.

Were this to happen, it would be the track’s 10th week at number one, the longest stay at the top of the singles chart since Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around in 1994.

However, Umbrella faces competition from Kate Nash’s Foundations (Fiction) and Timbaland’s The Way I are (Interscope), both of which look set for top three placings.

Lower down the chart, Amy Macdonald and Biffy Clyro should secure spots just outside the Top 10 with Mr Rock And Roll (Vertigo) and Folding Stars (14th Floor) respectively.

On the albums chart, Britain’s Got Talent Winner Paul Potts is set for a number one placing with his album One Chance (Syco). However, barring a late surge by Yellowcard’s Paper Walls (Capitol) or Josh Rouse’s Country Mouse City House (Bedroom Classics), Potts looks set to be the only new entry in the top 75 this Sunday.

The Top 3 is going to the wire, it will be pretty close on Sunday, it could be any of the top 3

Looks like both Timbo & Fergie Ferg are gonna have new album peaks

:o @ R. Kelly & Usher entering on downloads :o

 Amerie STILL top 50 :(

Such a shame that a really closely fought chart battle will result in such dire sales
Wow, HSM2 should be top 20 by Sunday! Interesting to see Give it to me on its way back up! At least it will easily clear 200k now!
Who's still buying that damn Pink album??????

Me. I bought one last week. :yahoo:

Nelly - Say It Right is also climbing although just 3 places.

In previous weeks Rihanna has always increased sales as the week goes on. Can't believe that Kate's challenging at this stage. Should be a great chart on Sunday! Go Kate!!! :cheer:

Could it be because Woolies have finally realised what a hit it is and have started stocking it in their physical chart? P.S I have have a numbered copy of 'Foundations' that reads 100. Should I put it on ebay for $$?

i hope kate can hold on i'm liking her display of strong legs in the top3, i would have liked her to do a shakira and yoyo from 3-1 like hips don't lie did last summer. if she climbs to 2 this week she has no chance doing the mega rare 3-2-1 ascension of hips don't lie cause timbaland goes physical on the 23rd and will deny her, i like both tracks so i'm don't really mind what happens

like hips don't lie foundations airplay is still terrible even though she's top3, she's only climbed up one place to #30. at least the fools at radio 1 have playlisted her but why haven't they upgraded her to A list yet?
