A fantastic song will always do well.

I definately disagree with that!

Why are they all flopping this year?

Britneys comeback, big letdown.

Kylies comeback, another big letdown.

Spice Girls ..

Kelly Clarkson

Even Christina Agulieras last album failed.

What's the deal? They are all putting out pretty decent music, that would've normally charted well just not this year for some reason. Will we only see huge sales for Madonna and Mariah when they come out with new music? Or will they flop too.

Britney - GOOD album, no promo.

Kylie - Is it even out?

Spice Girls - Wait till xmas...

Kelly Clarkson - Everything has just gone downhill for the album.

Christina - Her album was out LAST year, plus it was completly different to what she's done. BUT she still managed to have a massive sell out tour from it.

If I can use my favourite artist as an example, and agree with gooddelta, it all goes around in circles.

Celine couldn't stop selling albums in the 90's. The Colour Of My Love, Falling Into, Let's Talk About Love, These Are Special Times and All The Way just sold and sold and sold. Even on her big comeback in 2002, A New Day Has Come sold bucketloads before she went to Vegas. One Heart sold moderately whilst she was there and even the insipid baby inspired Miracle album charted respectably. Now though on her much hyped comeback the lead single "Taking Chances" is doing nothing for her and it seems the album is falling out of the top 10 after just a week too.

So I guess everyone has their time to sell loads, swings and roundabouts really.

Despite that her world tour is selling out quickly and extra dates have been added already.

Ms Furtado has done well though hasn't she? Her last album sold 1.4 million copies worldwide. Loose has so far sold over 7.5 million copies and it's still selling slowly!

In the buzzjack track of the year(round robin) 9 of the top 10 acts so far, are female or have a female lead!

So BJ disagrees ;)

i expect that the spice girls greatest hits will start selling bucketloads by the time christmas and the tour comes around. I hope so anyway...

Everybody seems to agree that kylie just released a pretty average track (although i love 2 hearts), and #4 is hardly a flop  if she chooses the right track for the next single (she has many to choose from!!) she'll do great.

I dont think they are all necesarily flopping, Kylie's album is terrible but plenty of her fans seem to be pleased with it, Britneys album is amazing but I'm dissapointed with her lack of contribution towards writing/promoting etc., Spice Girls just have a bit of a boring song, and Kelly Clarkson and Xtina just had quite uncomercial albums, so for some why there flopping is just its either not comercial or just not a good enough effort.
it just depends. pink a nelly have bookended a flop album with two massive albums. Not every album Kylie has ever released has sol massively. look at her late nineties stuff!

and i don't think j lo has been mentioned yet.....or KT Tunstall who has a really good but flopping second album

and its not just the girls! james blunt, maroon 5, white stripes, linkin park and even keane didn't sell as well this time around.

Mutya Buena, ... albums sales have been very disappointing for all of these artists :(

And it's a shame really.

But at the same time, you can't expect huge sellers to be huge sellers everytime they release a new album. The hype is not the same, the "new" factor has gone, etc etc.

A 'raw' album.

f*** all promo

= moderate flop

real girl was massive, as was song 4 mutya. b boy baby will be big, so hardly an all round flop. the album went top 10 which is more than one touch went in 2001 (or chemistry). the next albums from those groups were huge! AWDF is their 2nd biggest uk seller, and Sound of GA is GA's biggest seller.

just proves that artists can have hit and miss albums. reviews are important to an albums success. except in the case of trampy.

She just has a lot of hype which has overcome the poor reviews which merely suggest the album is a collection of dreary ballads

I wouldn't say Britney or Christina album were big let downs and Kelly Clarkson's album got to number 2 on both sides of the atlantic which I think after Breakaway yes it's a drop in sales but Breakaway didnt sell huge at the begining and was a slow long big burner. Spice Girls can't say its a let down SELL OUT WORLD TOUR? how many girl bands do that?

You got the return of Alicia Keys and Celine Dion, also Chaka Khan is doing well in US charts. Also Beyonce is pretty good had big success this year thanks to the Freemasons
