Posted May 20, 200817 yr On hearing the new Rihanna song for the first time the other day it really reminded me of an old song, which I worked out was the 1996 song 'Now That We're Not A Family' by Canadian singer Lisa Brokop. I doubt anyone else has heard this song because it's pretty obscure, but the piano notes played in the first few seconds are actually almost identical. Now a whole bunch of people picked up on the fact that David Jordan's 'Sun Goes Down' sounded very similar to 'This Is Hallowe'en', 'Stop the Cavalry' and even the Wizbit theme tune, and whenever I sing in my head Girls Aloud's song 'I Can't Speak French' to myself it somehow turns into 'True Blue' by Madonna. Also The Hoosiers have come under fire for 'Cops and Robbers' sounding just like 'Love Cats' by The Cure, and for 'Goodbye Mr A' bearing strong resemblances to ELO's 'Mr Blue Sky'. So the question is, what other recent chart hits sound either very similar to older songs, or end up turning into different songs when you try singing them because they're reminscent of other tunes?
May 20, 200817 yr Scouting For Girls - Heartbeat and erm... Scouting For Girls?? Ohhh I love Scouting For Girls though! Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad, Beyonce - Irreplaceable & Chris Brown - With You - they all sound the same as one another!

Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad, Beyonce - Irreplaceable & Chris Brown - With You - they all sound the same as one another! Yep, as do Leona's Angel and Jordin Spark's Tattoo because Stargate produced all of these tracks and they are quite limited to their beats.

May 20, 200817 yr Andy Abraham's Even If and Michael Jackson's Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough September's Cry For You and Bronski Beat's Smalltown Boy or Supermode's Tell Me Why Taio Cruz's I Can Be and All Saints' Pure Shores
May 20, 200817 yr Alphabeat- Facination, Alphabeat- 10,000 nights :P (but they have a surprisingly varied album, from the snippets ive heard)
May 20, 200817 yr I realised yesterday that the start of Two Doors Down from the Mystery Jets sounds the same as New Moon On Monday by Duran Duran...
May 20, 200817 yr Alphabeat- Facination, Alphabeat- 10,000 nights :P (but they have a surprisingly varied album, from the snippets ive heard) I really cannot see the similarities! I mean when i hear 10,000 nights i try and sing Fascination but i just cant do it!
May 20, 200817 yr :o Never noticed that one! :o although I will be controversial and say that I Can Be is better for me...I do think the song should have had a gospel choir key change at the end though, just to make it that bit more epic
May 20, 200817 yr September's Cry For You and Bronski Beat's Smalltown Boy or Supermode's Tell Me Why These are related by samples: Smalltown Boy and Tell Me Why from Bronski Beat combined made Supermode's Tell Me Why. Cry For You's UK remix has the same backing as Supermode.
May 20, 200817 yr I really cannot see the similarities! I mean when i hear 10,000 nights i try and sing Fascination but i just cant do it! Oh come on, the song is practically a lesser clone of 'Fascination'. :P Having said that I do quite like it, although it's not a patch on the previous.

I was 'Never Ever' (Sorry i just had too :P ) a fan of All Saints but i quite like dPure Shores, but I can Be Pees all over Pure Shores IMO obviously! And you may be right bout the gospel bit! He should try it and see! I was expecting some choir thing half way through! Surprised he hasnt used it actually!
May 20, 200817 yr Mercy by Duffy...sounds very much like "You Don`t Know Me", by Armand Van Heldon`s 1999 No`1. The instrumentation is exactly the same, I thoroughly believe.
May 20, 200817 yr seriously though, if you're going to do an over the top song like I Can Be then its an unwritten rule to have a gospel choir...see Mika's Happy Ending for an example of this!
May 20, 200817 yr The VERY Start of Chris Brown before he sings 'I Need You Boo' I always break out into Nickleback 'Photograph' where he sings... 'Look at this photograph'

I'd love to hear a mash up oh and the introduction to My Chemical Romance's I Don't Love You sounds literally the same as Emilia's Big Big World intro

May 20, 200817 yr Usher - Love In This Club has pretty much exactly the same tune as Ba Da Boem by P & J (apparently both songs are based on the same computer-generated jingle). Miley Cyrus - See You Again sounds similar to the start of Sunglasses At Night by Corey Hart (covered by Tiga & Zyntherius in 2002).
