Posted October 2, 200816 yr Has anyone been number one in the midweeks and then not been. The only I can think of is Manic Streets Preachers last year when they where knocked off by Beyonce and Shakira
October 2, 200816 yr Nickelback's rockstar was no.1 for most of the week in Feb of this year until Duffy zoomed up to No.1 with Mercy as it was massively huge when it was released to itunes as everyone loved it. I don't think there's been any swaps around with the No.1's in the week since then as far as i remember but has been done a lot of the time before the download rule. So i hope that solves your question :D Edited October 2, 200816 yr by Kid Justice
October 2, 200816 yr Do you mean upto Saturday and then different on Sunday, or different in the early stages of the week?

October 2, 200816 yr Interesting question. Has the No.1 in the last Friday mids ever not been No.1 in the Sunday charts I wonder.
October 2, 200816 yr Rihanna's Umbrella started at about 7 in the Tuesady Mids and then rose to 1 by Thrusday(ish). Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes started the midweeks at 1 then slipped to 7...
October 2, 200816 yr I believe I've read on here that Janet was #1 with 'All For You' in the mids but ended up at #3. I don't know if she was #1 in them all week though.

Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes started the midweeks at 1 then slipped to 7... I remembered Rihanna's umbrella start but woah at White stripes never thought a song that ended up by the weekend low top 10 to actually be a dayless no.1 in the UK :o
October 2, 200816 yr We could go through quite a few midweek number ones, that didn`t top the Sunday chart. If we went back to 1984, and onwards. In 1984, at one point Queen`s "Radio GaGa", was outselling "Relax", and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. It has happened in more recent times, in the run up to Christmas. The Teletubbies were holding off the Spice Girls (97, I think). 2003, and the Darkness were ahead of "Mad World". In 1986, Housemartins were ahead of Jackie Wilson. There was another situation in November 1985, when Wham`s "I`m Your Man" kept swapping with Feargal Sharkey`s "A Good Heart". Even "Holding Back The Years", and Simply Red was a midweek charttopper in 1986. There are lots more, maybe if I get a moment in the future I might do a whole feature on them.
October 2, 200816 yr Interesting question. Has the No.1 in the last Friday mids ever not been No.1 in the Sunday charts I wonder.Yes, it's happened before. Some that spring to mind are: You Have Been Loved by George Michael. The song that ended up at #1 on the Sunday, Candle In The Wind 97 by Elton John wasn't released until the Saturday. Elton ended up almost 550,000 copies ahead! In 1998 it happened at least twice. First, Bamboogie by Bamboo was ahead all week only to lose out by 800 sales to Never Ever by All Saints. A few months later Fire It Up by Busta Rhymes was at #1 all week only to be beaten into second place by the then current #1 It's Like That by Run DMC. The latter ended up 5,000 copies ahead. In 2000 Out Of Your Mind by Truesteppers was #1 all week but was overtaken on the Saturday afternoon by Groovejet by Spiller. Spiller ended up 20,000 copies ahead, 202,591 to 182,000.

October 2, 200816 yr In early 2005 we almost had four Elvis re-issue number 1s in a row - 'A Fool Such As I' was #1 on all the midweeks, with Ciara's 'Goodies' climbing slowly each day. I was extremely relieved when Ciara was #1 on the final chart as I had a horrible feeling we were going to get Elvis reissues at #1 for weeks on end. This was just before downloads were added to the chart and the number 1 was only selling approx 20k every week!
October 12, 200816 yr An idea would be if anyone has a list of the cduk charttoppers. These were, I believe, the chart less one day. They varied quite a lot in late 2004 if I remember rightly. Duncan James & Keedie's I Believe My Heart and Manics The Love Of Richard Nixon were 2.
