October 23, 200817 yr  Did anyone say the success of the first singles of both reflected on the success of album sales? But that´s still an unfair comparison... It´s obvious that it´s much harder for Duffy to have huge single sales when she is mainly an albums act.

I do know what you are saying but i dont think any GA fan is undermining duffys success with mercy. I know a hell of a lot of GA fans who love duffy. But the fact is, the promise might sell more in its opening week. Thats just a fact, no-one is taking it further to saying who deserves what more and who has bigger albums etc. Its not a rivalry thing. And yes you are right about the rivalry with the sugababes thing, hopefully it will be over now. The coronation begins on sunday.
October 23, 200817 yr But that´s still an unfair comparison... It´s obvious that it´s much harder for Duffy to have huge single sales when she is mainly an albums act. Are you actually reading the thread? The only reason their being so damn compared is because Duffy (at the moment) holds the biggest single sales for one week in 2008. Girls Aloud's new song is looking set to match, if not beat these sales. This is why they are being compared. If Madonna's 4 Mintues had sales of 73,000 in a week, then everyone will be comparing it to that - it is the SALES that are being compared!!!!! And it was Duffy's first single Mercy, before her album came out, and around when the album came out Edited October 23, 200817 yr by Knightr634
October 23, 200817 yr But that´s still an unfair comparison... It´s obvious that it´s much harder for Duffy to have huge single sales when she is mainly an albums act. Are you stupid? We are only wondering if The Promise will have the biggest sales for a #1, beating the 72k Duffy did. We're not saying that would make them bigger than Duffy or that the album will sell as much. We're just talking about chart numbers, year records and figures, which is the point of this forum and of this thread. If you can't understand it, there's not much we can do for you...
October 23, 200817 yr ^^ i knew this would happen, trying to pit duffy and GA against each other aint a good idea lol
October 23, 200817 yr i think JJN will see all your points as they are basically the same. I cannot believe the sales of this single. It's just so much more than their normal sales which are always healthy, but this isn't their finest song IMHO although a very good one so i'm just not sure who is buying it over and above their normal fans! Gonna be close interesting to see if they outdo duffy's peak week, but it seems no1 is safe! In Albums think AC/DC are pretty confident too, just shows the power veteran bands can have outselling established more recent bands new albums this week, e.g. Keane, Oasis, Sugababes, Kings of Leon and reality TV stars (Jackson) all in one week when they've all been released in the last 2-3 weeks!
