Posted October 28, 200817 yr By Stuart Clarke (Music Week) When we caught up with SyCo head Simon Cowell last month he predicted that the X Factor finalists charity single would be the biggest selling single of the year. With midweek sales already surpassing the 100,000 sales mark, Cowell’s prediction looks spot on. Hero is holding a very comfortable lead ahead of its competition, and with four days of sales to come, the lead shows no sign of diminishing. Elsewhere the top 8 shows very minor chart shuffles. A hot flash of neon is shaking up the rock acts at the top of the midweek albums chart as Pink’s new studio album, Funhouse (RCA), makes a firm impression at number one. Funhouse is currently edged ahead of Snow Patrol who hold second place with their new studio album, A Hundred Million Suns (Fiction). AC/DC look set to enjoy healthy second week of sales with Black Ice which is currently holding strong in third place, ahead of Bloc Party’s new album, Intimacy (Wichita). Elsewhere in the top ten it’s beginning to look decidedly like the fourth quarter with a Celine Dion Greatest Hits (RCA) and Daniel O’Donnell studio album (DMGTV) making their presence felt. Meanwhile a healthy start for The Saturdays with their debut album, Chasing Lights (Fascination). ====================================== Top 40 Only Singles 01 X Factor Finalists 100k 02 Girls Aloud 25.4k 03 Pink 04 Guru Josh 05 Kings Of Leon Top 10 Katy Perry 10 Jennifer Hudson Top 15 Sugababes Rihanna Jack White & Alicia Keys Top 20 Katy Perry - IKAG Pussycat Dolls Top 30 22 Jordin Sparks - Tattoo Kardinal Offishall Madcon Top 40 The View Fall Out Boy Chris Brown Akon - Right Now Adele ========================================== Albums 01 Pink 37.1k 02 Snow Patrol 34.6k 03 AC/DC 04 Bloc Party 05 Kings Of Leon Top 10 Celine Dion 8.7k Daniel O'Donnell 9 The Saturdays 7.2k Top 15 Mariah Carey Top 20 16 Anastacia Katie Melua Top 30 Hayley Westerna The Cure Top 40 Ryan Adams & The Cardinals Scouting For Girls NO SALES INFO Album sales from Vivalaradio & Reginafilage at haven ============================================= PLEASE NOTE Please keep this thread on topic at all times, I do not want to repeat myself every week, no text talk is allowed, do not write in block CAPS, and keep all requests in one post if you can, and try to read the thread topic before asking a question and please be patient while you are waiting for your question to be answered. October 28, 200817 yr Author Snow Patrol slug it out with Pink for top slot Friday October 31, 2008 The battle for this week’s number one album is heating up, with Universal pulling out all the stops to try to get Snow Patrol’s Hundred Million Suns to overtake midweek top-seller Funhouse by Pink. SonyBMG imprint Laface had seen sales of more than 83,000 units of the Pink set by the close of play yesterday, while the Fiction act were lagging behind with 70,000 sales. However, a strong TV ad campaign, rumoured to have set Universal back £100,000, is being launched to try to capitalise on the weekend shoppers and fans of Snow Patrol are being tempted to buy the album along with a ticket for next year’s arena tour through a package on the band’s website. The 13-date tour takes in most major cities around the UK and Ireland and will be the band’s largest outing to date. Although tickets do not go on general sale until November 7, fans were being offered pre-sale tickets priced £30 (£32.50 in London) plus booking fee of £3.00/£3.25. Anyone buying a ticket from www.snowpartrol.com today and tomorrow is also being offered a limited ticket and album bundle priced £38.99 in total, with no booking fee, or £41.49 in London =================================== Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 01 X Factor Finalists 02 Girls Aloud 49.8k 03 Pink 04 Guru Josh 05 Kings Of Leon Top 10 Katy Perry Top 15 11 Jennifer Hudson Jack White & Alicia Keys Top 30 Kardinal Offishall 23 Jordin Sparks - Tattoo Akon - Right Now Adele Madcon Top 40 32 Jordin Sparks - No Air Chris Brown feat. October 28, 200817 yr My top 5 prediction: 1. The X Factor Finalists - Hero 2. Girls Aloud - The Promise 3. P!nk - So What 4. Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008 5. Katy Perry - Hot N Cold
October 28, 200817 yr I'll laugh if the X factor song prevents Simon Cowells favourite, Leona, from achieving another no.1 :P . She releases Forgive Me next Monday I think. I suspect even he will be surprised at how popular the song is turning out to be!
October 28, 200817 yr 100K in 2 days? Makes my estimate of 100K in total seem a bit conservative now. Anyway, hoping that Bloc Party can make a Top 10 debut. :cheer: Edited October 28, 200817 yr by Doctor Blind
October 28, 200817 yr Don't know why people think Anastacia will be top ten. Top 20 at best and that's me being generous :o That 'Hero' trash will obvz be the no1 single with GA, P!nk, Guru Josh and Razorlight making up the top 5. On the albums I suspect Melua to be no 10 and Bloc Party, Celine and Saturdays to be between 5-9. P!nk and Snow Patrol for the top 2 obvs I'd perfer the former to be at the top but it'll be Bland Patrol sadly.
October 28, 200817 yr I hope Pink will do well! I loved So what...but I've still to listen to her album. Hope the X Factor song will get to #1!
October 28, 200817 yr My Top 5 Prediction 1 - X Factor 2 - Guru Josh 3 - Girls Aloud 4 - Pink! 5 - Katy Perry
October 28, 200817 yr If its true, then thats awful. I know its for a good cause but its an abysmal cover version.
October 28, 200817 yr People with no musical taste love it. They would buy anything that ITV rams down their throats...... I did catch the start of X-Factor on Saturday night- it made me sick to the stomach.
