Pop looks set to vanquish indie once more at the top of the albums charts, with Girls Aloud’s Out Of Control (Fascination) taking a commanding lead ahead of Razorlight’s new album Slipway Fires (Vertigo).

The girl band’s new studio set has shifted almost 26,000 copies in its first day of release, while Slipway Fires sold nearer 17,000, putting it behind both Girls Aloud and Pink, whose Funhouse (LaFace) last Sunday topped the charts ahead of Snow Patrol’s A Hundred Million Suns (Fiction).

Greatest hits sets from Enrique Iglesias, Cliff Richard and Status Quo are also set for new entries within the top twenty, while Grace Jones’ comeback album Hurricane (Wall of Sound) should make the top forty.

On the singles chart, Hero by X Factor Finalists (Syco) is off to another very strong start, selling almost 73,000 copies yesterday, while new singles from Beyoncé (If I Were A Boy [RCA]) and Britney Spears (Womanizer [Jive]) are challenging for top five places, despite only being available digitally.

Girls Aloud for number one album please :w00t:

Hope Britney can do well on the singles side!!

When you say Guru Josh is a climber, do you mean the infinitely (see, what I did there?) superior version from 1990?

This time last week it was 3 pages long -_-
I dont mind so much about GA getting no1, its sales that i want to be high and they need top 3 for that.

I think it will be a long thread this week too :cheer:

Think there'll be a huge amount of movement in the top 10 this week behind the (surely unmoveable) #1. Today's midweeks 2-10 could bare little resemblance to Sunday's chart. Leona I think will move up through the week and start lowish. Britney and Beyonce will be ahead in the race to topple Girls Aloud but not sure if they'll do it today.

Im quite disapointed that the X Factor is taking this week. :( I was excited to see a big battle for Number 1 between the ladies but I guess its just a race for number 2. :( Are they all out physically or are any on downloads only?

Leona is out on physical but for some reason wasn't released on Sunday digitally so has lost a day's sales there.

Oh no. :( I was rooting for Leona this week. :( I think I read Britney isnt out till later in the month, which would be great because Womanizer is easily her best song in such a long time and deserves Number 1 no question. :)

Booo The X Factor Single!

I was soo excited to see which Diva would Take the Number 1 Spot!

If Hero is number 1 for ages I will actually go mad..fair enough it's for charity but It's just so frustrating!
