November 10, 200816 yr wow. shocked at Beyonce. Was sure if i thought about i'd come up with another higher sale. Of course, there will be songs who've sold more downloads that her in a week, they just happen to also have physical release (e.g. X-factor) On that, anyone know the split for the single? (d/l-physical)

(d/l-physical) Yeah this list is just for downloads alone weeks, I believe Leona Lewis A Moment Like This, Shayne Ward That's My Goal and Leona Lewis Bleeding Love all shifted over 100k of downloads in their first week along with physicals. Gnarls Barkley did around 74k downloads + 120k physicals in its second week at No1.
November 10, 200816 yr Woah @ Britney :o To think a #4 song could sell that much ... Strange to see Rihanna's 'Take A Bow' sold more on downloads than 'Umbrella' did in it's first week too.

It is being sold everywhere though. Makes you think if shops would still support physicals properly their sales could still give downloads a run for their money, but they don't want to as the £ is in downloads these days  cheers for the info, v interesting :)
November 11, 200816 yr Leona's BL sold 112,816 physicals and 106,029 downloads giving a 51.6%/48.4% split. I believe the chart at the top of this thread is going to be obliterated next year, once another gallon of mp3 players are sold for Xmas. The US chart downloads over Xmas last year were incredible and I think we'll follow suit here in the UK next year.
November 11, 200816 yr Here are the alltime biggest weekly sales for singles charting on downloads alone (either before a physical release or without a physical release). 19 08/04/06 31,703 Gnarls Barkley Crazy (1) and did Gnarls sell more the previous week but not chart? I think so.

November 11, 200816 yr and did Gnarls sell more the previous week but not chart? I think so. Probably - but it couldn't chart due to the downloads rule in force at the time (it could only chart if the physical release came out the following week).
November 11, 200816 yr Author and did Gnarls sell more the previous week but not chart? I think so. 17k actually! ;) Would have put it at #4 had it not been NCQ'd.
November 11, 200816 yr 17k actually! ;) Would have put it at #4 had it not been NCQ'd. I thought it had sold enough to be #1 if it was not DSQ for the final week before the new rules? I am sure I read that it would have been Gnarls instead of Orson's No Tomorrow

I am sure I read that it would have been Gnarls instead of Orson's No Tomorrow  Your forgetting that it was Ne-Yo’s ‘So Sick’ that was No1 the week before Gnarls entered at No1! ;)
November 11, 200816 yr WOW! Interesting to see a song at number 4, selling more than some of the biggest sellers at number 1 :o a 2008 Top 12 :o Just proves that downloads are growing ever more popular :o

I mean even if only 20% of singles sold were physical, i'm sure the labels would actually make as much profit from physicals as downloads, unless they are one of those 99p things.

I mean even if only 20% of singles sold were physical, i'm sure the labels would actually make as much profit from physicals as downloads, unless they are one of those 99p things. I believe a CD single needs to sell 80,000 copies to break even with royalties, product development, manufacture and distribution…
November 11, 200816 yr I believe a CD single needs to sell 80,000 copies to break even with royalties, product development, manufacture and distribution… So i think only Mercy, Now You're Gone, and now Hero, have actually made a profit because they're the only ones that have sold more than 80,000 physicals. I thought royalties were %?
