Posted November 18, 200817 yr By Paul Williams (Music Week) Dido and Leona Lewis are subject to one of the closest first-day sales battles of the year so far, with fewer than 500 units separating their albums in the race for number one. Dido’s third album Safe Trip Home, her first since 2003’s Life For Rent, is presently narrowly ahead of fellow RCA artist Leona Lewis’s newly-expanded Syco album Spirit but it is too close to call at this stage which album will ultimately top the UK artist albums chart this coming Sunday. Besides the Dido and Leona Lewis albums, two other albums released on Monday are currently occupying places in the midweek top five: Roadrunner/Warner act Nickelback’s Dark Horse and All Around The World/UMTV’s N-Dubz’ Uncle B. They are all outselling the newly-released, Top 10-bound Beyonce album I Am Sasha Fierce, but the RCA act could be compensated by reaching number one this weekend on the singles chart with If I Were A Boy. However, the battle here for number one is also closely-fought with the current title holder, Syco/RCA’s X Factor Finalists’ Hero, fewer than 500 units beyond Beyonce. Back on the albums chart and the influx of a number of new entries into the Top 10 could result in the current number one, Syco/RCA’s The Promise by Il Divo, dropping out of the top five. It is currently ranked seventh in the midweeks. The busy week for new releases is also reflected outside the Top 10, with new entries expected to include new retrospectives from Simply Red – a partnership between EMI and simplyred.com – Decca’s Russell Watson and Rod Stewart whose former label Warner Bros has just issued best of Some Guys Have All The Luck. They will be joined in the chart this Sunday by Tom Jones’ Parlophone debut 24 Hours, which currently ranks 32nd in the midweeks. The midweeks singles chart Top 10 is presently a reshuffle of last Sunday’s Top 10 with Beyonce’s move to one accompanied by Vertigo/Mercury’s The Killers climbing a place to three with Human. A&M/Polydor Duffy is expected to move into the Top 20 with Rain On Your Parade as are Roadrunner/Warner’s Nickelback with Gotta Be Somebody. Meanwhile, Snow Patrol’s 2004 top five hit Run is expected to return to the Top 40 on the back of Leona Lewis performing the song on last Sunday’s X-Factor. The cover is on the expanded version of her album Spirit. ================================= Top 40 Singles Only Singles 01 Beyonce 16.5k 02 X Factor 16k 03 Killers 15.8k 04 T.I. 14.5k 05 Alesha 10.5k Top 10 Katy Perry 9 Leona Lewis - FM Top 15 Duffy Akon Top 20 Nickelback Kings Of Leon (US) Top 30 Bellamy Bros Snow Patrol - Run Katy Perry - IKAG Rihanna Delirious? November 18, 200817 yr I honestly think X-Factor has had it's last week at number one. I'd love it to be The Killers, but T.I. (not too bad) or Beyonce (:puke2:) is more likely.
November 18, 200817 yr I think it will be very close between X Factor, T.I, Beyonce and The Killers actually :o I really can't predict but if I had to choose one to come out on top it'd have to be the amazing 'Human' Alesha or Katy Perry should round off the top 5. Albums will probably be Dido with Beyonce in 2nd I'd have thought.
November 18, 200817 yr I pray Dido doesn't do too badly. She's going to do great, don't worry. I just want Tom Jones to go top 40, hopefully albums AND singles, after the fantastic Strictly performance. Edited November 18, 200817 yr by TomKay
November 18, 200817 yr Beyonce  Does anyone actually like that song? Also N-Dubz top 5 on albums? :puke2: Edited November 18, 200817 yr by TomKay
November 18, 200817 yr Thanks Martin for the info. :cheer: for Dido being #1 this week. I hope for some decent sales :)
November 18, 200817 yr yay for Beyonce :D Thank god its not T.I or The Killers! Her album is not top5 though :(
November 18, 200817 yr So Cowell's strategy holding back Run worked. Knew it would. There are a lot of gullible people out there just waiting to line his pockets. Edited November 18, 200817 yr by truly talented
