I just got back from Woolworths actually - The store was stripped bare and 95% of the entertainment section was empty BUT there was plenty of copies of new releases from Britney Spears, Kings Of Leon, Same Difference, The Preists, Coldplay (Deluxe Version) and Leona Lewis (Deluxe Version) all included in the 10% off entertainment sale.

I don't think stores have much enetertainment stock left to reduce tbh - I visited a huge Woolworths store today and they had no games at all, A handful of cheap title DVDs and the only CDs they had were the ones I mentioned above plus plenty of George Sampson and Leon Jackson singles!

On the Woolies website:

"Our site is currently undergoing essential maintenance."

Considering that they probably won't be around at the end of next month, it must be really essential.

That message has been on there since they suspended website sales when they issued their profit warning.

I went into a local branch today (Middlesbrough) - no sign of a new sale, but absolute bedlam, the shop had even more of the tornado chic look, and mile long queues at every till. A fair amount of DVDs and games still, but not much music.
bye Woolies... no Woolies, no CDs...

Totally agree - When I was in Woolworths yesterday I thought it was quite sad that such a huge entertainment retailer was going to be going for good :(

My Local Woolies was rubbish People were outside from like 5am and they didn't even have much of a closing down sale!

The Majority of Homeware was reduced down to ridiculous prices as was the clothes but the Entertainment section only had the orginal 10% off.

The entertainment section is pretty much bare now..I can't believe that they spent out money to get the store refurbished earlier this year with big plasa TV's advertising games etc...Yet the place still always looked like a bomb had struck!

Since going today, I must admit it will definately be sad to see it go..

MOST Of all I am gonna miss the Pick 'N' Mix cups for £1.99! :(

I have a feeling when Woolworths goes it should help stores like Zavvi,Hmv etc.. as there really won't be anywhere else to get Cd's,games etc.. from.

my Woolies stopped the pick 'n' mix cups ages ago, they've only had bags for at least a year :(

and it will probably drive yet more trade into supermarkets as opposed to HMV, and certainly not Zavvi which is terrible...it wouldn't surprise me if Zavvi goes in the next few years, I know very few people who would choose it over HMV

Although I could see the death of the physical CD single coming before I got online broadband (2006) set up for my PC; I never thought I could see the death of the physical CD album coming in the near future.

With Woolies going; Zavvi a bit of a mess & HMV ever reducing the space in their stores for CDs I'm not so sure the physical CD format will be here for most chart albums in 5 or even 3 years time.

So did mine. It was the only reason I ever went in there because you could cramb as much in as possible and it would cost the same whatever, they were atleast twice as good value as pick and mix anywhere else. But now they're just as much of a rip off as everywhere else!

I went to a large WH Smith today at The Fort Shopping Centre in Bham to but some CD albums.

I was gobsmacked when I found out they don't sell them anymore .

In HMV next door they only had about 10 CD Singles which you couldn't have a look at unless you joined the queue at the pay desk.

It has been reported that Woolworths had 10% entertainment market share! That is a high amount of sales that could potentially be lost especially as many high streets only have a Woolworths as the only source of music with HMV, Zavvi etc, only in larger high streets....

i was in wollies Dundee today and it's not hard to see why its gone t*ts up tbh.

it's a bloody mess. i spent about 30 seconds in there.

Our local Woolworths has been $h!t for a while. Yesterday it was just full of old ladies trying to find a bargain

It's all well and good them having 10% off entertainament, but they charge more then the supermarkets to begin with so it's still cheaper to go to Morrissons and Tesco. (Not quite as expensive as Smiths though. Their 'Chart Price' Killers was £13.99!! :o )

So was Middlesbrough, but nothing new there...

Zavvi are heavily in debt too. Virgin Media are helping to bail them

out, apparently.
