Posted November 26, 200816 yr How many Christmas-themed songs do you reckon we'll be seeing in the Christmas Top 10 this year? I think we could have a fair amount, which I'm pleased about. I'd like to hope the efforts from the Killers and Gabriella Cilmi could get enough steam to get them into the top ten, and no doubt we'll be seeing Geraldine McQueen's Christmas offering up there, along with the usual suspects (Mariah and the Pogues). So I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll have 5 Christmas themed songs in the Christmas top ten this year. It's just sad that none of them will be number one. As for the Top 40, I'll say 13. Just a number I've plucked from the air in all honesty, but I'd be quite confident the mass of Christmas oldies will creep back into the top 40 like last year, and also there'll be releases from Status Quo, the Wombats, Only Men Aloud etc. which we can probably expect to see mild hits out of that probably won't manage the top ten. What do you think?
November 26, 200816 yr Mariah Carey is going to be a strong Top 10 contender - she's already creeping into the Top 40 and has been around for ages in the 200. Well, a few weeks. Seems like ages.... 8 or 9 christmas songs already in the 200 this last week. The real question though - will Christmas songs make everybody happy or miserable this year? With a recession, do we really see lots of sales? :D
November 26, 200816 yr Hasn't there already been a thread on this? Mariah Carey and The Pogues should be there or there about. Also possibly Wham! Or Shakin Stevens could make the top20. Peter Kay / Geraldine will probably make it too off the back of BGTPF.
November 26, 200816 yr Mariah Carey;s alli want for christmas overall i think will sell the most this year and should make the top 10 again andi think the pogues and kirsty mac coll will also make the top 10 again slade, shakin stevans and the worst x mas song of all for me Wham should make top 40 or possibly top 30 band aid will prob re enter also but it will be the original version and john leenon will make a dent in the top 75 also i think
November 26, 200816 yr There's a chance that Perry Como's "Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas" from 1951 could be a hit this year. If it does then it would break the record for the time taken between recording & reaching the charts in the UK.
November 28, 200816 yr How many Christmas-themed songs do you reckon we'll be seeing in the Christmas Top 10 this year? I think we will see at least 10 Xmas themed songs, but only 1 or 2 new tracks, the others the usual oldies :o
November 28, 200816 yr Yep The Killer have a christmas song it's a duet with Elton John called "Joseph Better You Than Me". I think it could be top 20 at least Edited November 28, 200816 yr by dizzeeforPM
November 28, 200816 yr Such a shame Christmas isn't the same any more, I'd love to see a new Christmas song at number 1. I'd even very much dislike the X Factor winner to actually sing a Christmas cover. Still, the number 2 is almost as good as the old Christmas number 1 nowadays! The X Factor number 1 means nothing at all. Have the feeling Wham will be quite high. Definitely Mariah.
November 28, 200816 yr Author Really liking Status Quo's It's Christmas Time. A good old-fashioned Christmas song! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jGXXttM-tSk I have to admit I love it  I'm baffled as to why it's taken them so long to record it
November 28, 200816 yr Top 10 The Pogues Mariah Geraldine McQueen Top 20 The Wombats Shakin' Stevens Wham! Top 30 Slade Wizzard Status Quo Top 40 Band Aid Gabriella Cilmi Maybe a couple of others That is my prediction (in no particular order per group of 10)
November 29, 200816 yr There's a chance that Perry Como's "Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas" from 1951 could be a hit this year. If it does then it would break the record for the time taken between recording & reaching the charts in the UK. Wasn't it in the chart of 23 December 2007?

I'd guess there'll be 3-4 Xmas songs in the T10, 10-11 in the T40, and >40 in the T200. Edited November 29, 200816 yr by vidcapper
November 29, 200816 yr There are two B&I's going for Xmas songs in the Take That forum. Pete (FTF) has his set and I have mine - Normas Noeltide Novelties! An open invitation is warmly extended to you all. And if you don't take part you're a bunch of mean-spirited old scrooges! Norma
November 29, 200816 yr Ah, so you do *have* the T200's - so my guess is that the OCC still playing hardball? They are coming through but we need clearance, as you would expect, to issue the magazine.
November 30, 200816 yr They are coming through but we need clearance, as you would expect, to issue the magazine. Actually, I *wouldn't* expect clearance to be separate from paying for the info in the first place. ISTM, once copyright payment has been made, permission to reproduce should be inherent in that.

I just do as I am told..... :D
