Take That bring their Circus to the top of the charts

12:01 | Tuesday December 2, 2008

By Ben Cardew

Take That’s new album The Circus (Polydor) has taken a commanding lead in the albums chart and looks certain to score the number one spot this Sunday.

The album shrugged off problems at EUK and Woolworths Retail to sell 132,985 units on its first day of release, more than four times as much as nearest competitors, the Killers’ Day And Age (Vertigo), a result that suggest the veteran boy band could be on the way to one of the highest weekly sales so far this year.

Britney Spears’ new album, Circus (Jive), should secure a top three placing, having sold 24,288 copies on day of release, while Same Difference’s Pop (Syco) should debut top twenty.

Meanwhile, Guns N’ Roses’ long awaited Chinese Democracy (Polydor) looks set to fall out of the top five.

On the singles chart, Take That’s Greatest Day (Polydor) looks set to lose its chart crown to another Mancunian group – Oasis, with I’m Outta Time (Big Brother).

Leona Lewis’s cover of Snow Patrol’s Run, which she performed on the X factor in November, should secure a top three placing.

LIMITED SALES INFO

I'm awake, can't wait to see if Leona's number 1 and what is the gap between her and TT (I guess the number 2) :D
I'm here. Really hope Same Difference can have a top 10 album and the single hasn't fell too badly...
According to Dave Taylor yesterday, they're top 5! :o
take that are outselling britney spears in the albums by 5:1

Predictable week for no1 single and album.

Hope GA do well this week and hope album sales stay high.

01 LEONA LEWIS - RUN - 30K

17 RIHANNA - REHAB

01 TAKE THAT - CIRCUS - 40K

02 BRITTERS - CIRCUS - 10K

10 SAME DIFF - POP - 8K

Take That the most obvious for the album chart. Lower sales than people are expecting at the end of the week due to the whole Woolies thing.

I reckon the top 3 singles will be

Leona 45k (Sounds high but this song is advertised everywhere!)

TT 18k

Beyonce 16k

Albums

TT-65k (pre-orders were massive)

Britters-18k

Killers 16k

Same Difference 14k

(These are optimistic predictions btw..I reckon SD are more like 8 or 9.)

Same Difference are doing brilliantly, Wayyy better than the single :o

Edited by Chrisj.

is britney deffo gonne be number 2? i think the albums may be

TT 80 000

Killers 22 000

Britney? 20 000

i think in the singles

1 Leona - Run - 50000 ish

2 TT - 20000

3 Beyonce - 12000

Albums

1. TT - 80-100000

2. Britney - 20000

3. Killers - 15000

7. Same Difference - 9000

I really don't think leona's run will be no1.

Then you really haven't seen itunes popularity bars then have you! Its outselling TT, who sold 70k last week by over 3 to 1. It should easily sell over 150k ;)

Looks like Miley Cyrus has been taken off iTunes, so it's climb is gonna come to a grinding holt if it's not readded soon.

Sorry to say but I think you lot are over-estimating Britney.

I have a gut feeling that she'll end up either at the lower half of the top 10 or Top 15 with her new album.

My Predictions

Singles

01 Leona Lewis

02 Take That

03 Britney Spears

04 Beyoncé

05 T.I.

Albums

01 Take That

02 Killers

03 Leona Lewis

04 Stereophonics

05 Britney Spears
