Zavvi suspends website sales

Zavvi has suspended sales from its website, www.zavvi.co.uk, in the light of EUK’s administration.

EUK, which went into administration last week alongside Woolworths Retail, is the exclusive fulfilment partner for DVDs, CDs and games for zavvi.co.uk.

While Zavvi is now dealing directly with suppliers to ensure it is stocked with new releases in-store, it says it is unable to fully guarantee the supply of DVD, music and games products ordered by its customers.

As a result, it has suspended taking orders for these products until the situation with EUK’s administrators has been resolved, as well as cancelling all outstanding customer website orders.

The company says, “Zavvi.co.uk would like to apologise for any inconvenience and would like to assure customers that this decision was not taken lightly. Zavvi.co.uk firmly believes that this is the right course of action under the circumstances and customers can be confident that Zavvi is doing everything possible to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

“Zavvi would like to thank its customers for all their support and look forward to serving them again at zavvi.co.uk in the very near future.”

Got a funny feeling its efecting this week's mids
Are they really that major? No-one round here would have heard of Zavvi tbh.

Yeah they are the Virgin Megastore - i suppose unlike tesco (and woolies) they wouldnt bother having ones in little towns they think are not worthy of a large music hypermarket...tho towns that used to be served well by MZ

I would be lost without Zavvi in Town..We don't have HMv so it's pretty much the only place to get music from, especially singles as they still stock them in our local Zavvi..

This is definately gonna have an effect on the midweeks and will probably affect Take That's sales.

It's such a shame that all these companies are suffering..I don't really think Zavvi needs this after all Virgin went bust so I guess they probably arn't that well off..In comparison to places like Play.com etc..

Really bad news for Zavvi in one of the biggest album weeks of the year :( I am guessing they had many Take That pre-orders they had to cancel as they was selling it for £8.99 on pre-order!...Hope Zavvi can recover from this as it will hugely affect their profits :(
bloody hell, i hope they manage to keep their heads above the water through this coz they are about too loose $h!t loads, not very good news this close to xmas
Things seem to be going from bad to worse! Record Companies must be worried at the moment. So many retail and distribution problems.
The strange thing is that Zavvi has cancelled all orders... I am wondering why Woolworths.co.uk haven't done the same! They have just sent back-order emails saying to wait 7 days.

Zavvi probably don't want to p*** off customers anymore than they have done so already where as Woolworths are trying to hold onto every £ they can get in the hope they will be able to source some stock.

EUK never was loss making so being an accountant... I find it really weird that they put it into administration!

Is it not because they are 100% owned by Woolworths Retail?!

They managed to deliver a cd ordered in October about a week ago. Maybe people wouldn't have noticed any difference.

No EUK is owned by Woolworths Group PLC

I also got stuff I ordered online in Nov from Woolworths last week...

WH Smith are having similar problems online too. The sooner EUK is bought out of Woolworths the better for the entertainment industry.

A Message To Our Music Customers

We are temporarily experiencing some supply problems with DVDs, CDs and Gaming products at WHSmith.co.uk, however we expect to offer the key chart lines by the end of the week. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please be assured that our other product categories are unaffected and available for Christmas delivery. We are seeking to fulfil outstanding orders for DVDs, CDs or Games. If you have an outstanding order for these products we will contact you shortly. Our High Street stores continue to have a good supply of Entertainment products

Unless Zavvi gets an alternative supplier quickly they will loose hundreds of thousands at their most profitable time of year.

If this crisis continues i can see Zavvi becoming the next casualty

So not good news for either Zavvi or WHS then - Lets hope the collapse of EUK/Woolworths does not bring down other entertainment retailers

Sure it is affecting sales, and the WHS situation as well. My town doesn't have HMV or Zavvi, only Woolies and WHS so not great right now. Our nearest out of town shopping park has Zavvi but no HMV.

Btw, Virgin did not go bust. Richard Branson, its founder sold out his majority share to the board, but as they didn't buy the Virgin brand (Virgin still does other products), they had to rename the stores Zavvi. I believe it's the initials of the remaining board members or something...
