December 22, 200816 yr oh, and Delta Goodrem's version of Happy Xmas (War Is Over) is stunning and was my personal chart xmas No.1 in 2003 (shocker!) I recommend it to those who haven't heard it!
December 22, 200816 yr Author OK, well it is the usual Top 2 suspects from the previous 2 years, in 2006 Mariah Carey was on top, but in 2007 the Pogues & Kirsty MacColl were victorious, so which song has made it 2 wins out of 3??????
December 22, 200816 yr I want the Pogues & Kirsty but I've got an awful feeling its Mariah Screechy! Norma
December 22, 200816 yr My 2 favourite Christmas songs of all time. I would prefer it if the winner was Pogues.
December 22, 200816 yr But maybe it is down to this version by a popular Girl combo helping its revival: 3G2QHI5JQfw well it certainly wasn't down to Eoghan Quigg's version! I'm not sure that GA's version is that well known, bearing in mind it was on a limited release bonus disc version of Chemistry...I find Wizzard's song to be a lot more endearing than Slade's... Wizzard's is more melodic, memorable, xmassy and interesting pop song whereas Slade's is more of an 'anthem' which is why it was fitting that Oasis, the kings of the rock anthem, covered it, although I hate their version, it's so dark and moody
December 22, 200816 yr Author 2nd 1 Fairytale Of New York - Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl 117 Pts NrAwK9juhhY The song that even the Pet Shop Boys were embarrassed about stopping being the 1987 Xmas #1 (behind their synth pop cover of Willie Nelson's penned Elvis Presley's cover Always On My Mind); is to my mind the greatest Christmas song ever written as it represents everything real, heartfelt & authentic about music, art, emotion, individuality & passion (in short everything that X-Factor ain't). Produced by the legendary UK producer Steve Lillywhite featuring his now late wife on vocals, her wonderful folky vocals counteract Shane MacGowan's drunken Oirish vocals. "I could have been someone" "Well So could anyone" 1st 2 All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey 148 Pts RengWX0P5KA So Simon Cowell's all time favourite singer tops this year's poll by some distance. Am I the only one who thinks this sounds more like a Eurovision Song Contest Entry circa 1975-1985 than a Christmas song? Personally I think the Jermaine Dupri urban remix featuring Lil' Bow Wow is far better, but I seem to be in the minority as it has now sold over 8 million CDs, downloads to date worldwide..
December 22, 200816 yr This pause is almost as big as on X Factor. As long as nobody stops breathing, we'll all be fine.
December 22, 200816 yr good lead for Mariah this year :o yes, a female won as we all know, this is Buzzjack etc...but it's worth bearing in mind that the rest of the top 5 was completely male vocal acts!
December 22, 200816 yr Easy win for Mariah in the end. I wouldve prefered Pogues, but as I put Mariah down as 12pts, I am happy with that result too!
December 22, 200816 yr Gutted Wizzard, miss out on getting the Top spot of yet ANOTHER countdown! It seems to always be either 3, 4 or 5 in the Christmas rundowns on TV etc... :drama: Edited December 22, 200816 yr by Chrimbo Jon
December 22, 200816 yr To be fair, the 4 best xmas songs were in the top 4 (imo) but in the wrong order :( I wish The Pogues & Kirsty had won again, but oh well. Thanks for this, Rich and I hope you feel better soon. Merry Christmas!
December 22, 200816 yr Great to see Gabriella so high, hopefully it can become a christmas classic. The best top 2 i could hope for though, and i do slightly prefer Mariah over The Pogues.
December 23, 200816 yr I prefer Mariah, though I like the Pogues. Great top 10 for me, although disappointed that my nomination only made it to number 44...
December 23, 200816 yr UGH at the winner. Even by Christmas standards, Mariah just pushed the cheese factor too far here. And UGH at the typical Buzzjack gay vote.
