January 7, 200916 yr Didn't bother getting anything from Woolies but I can't wait till the Zavvi closing down sale
January 7, 200916 yr Author Lee Mead was 50p so I had to buy it lol. Me too :heehee: Think he will be back in the Top 75 this week thanks to Woolies :heehee:
January 7, 200916 yr I am someone who isn't that bothered..Although I do have ALOT of sympathy for all out of a job! I just think they should have sorted themselves out it was obvious they wern't doing well for the last couple fo years and they should have reduced there stores or brought down prices to increase sales. It is a shame though, it has left a massive empty shop in my local town and if Zavvi goes I only have Tesco or Smiths to buy Cd's Dvd's etc from.. I will probably resort to buying from HMV Online for most as that's where I buy singles and albums from atm.. In a way I hope Zavvi does go down the pan, They have loads of Only Fools & Horses Boxsets already at £34.99 inc 10% discount...I thought I would wait to see if they go cheaper as they had loads and loads of them all stacked up! Although It will be a big shame think of all the savings! Haha.
January 7, 200916 yr Author Whilst everyone is thinking how great the savings are from Woolies and Zavvi just think if and when Zavvi do close down HMV being the only music retailer left will be able to totally screw us on price as they will have no competition!
January 7, 200916 yr Whilst everyone is thinking how great the savings are from Woolies and Zavvi just think if and when Zavvi do close down HMV being the only music retailer left will be able to totally screw us on price as they will have no competition! That would be commercial suicide if they try fleecing the consumer because of lack of High St competition, they will go down the pan faster than they can blink There is no valid excuse for anyone not to be buying their stuff online in this day and age
January 7, 200916 yr That would be commercial suicide if they try fleecing the consumer because of lack of High St competition, they will go down the pan faster than they can blink There is no valid excuse for anyone not to be buying their stuff online in this day and age There is and some of them have already been posted! Just because you're obsessed by a certain website doesn't mean that everyone can (or even wants to) buy online. Following on from what *ChasingLights* was saying if there's no competition from the High Street the online retailers could also raise their prices...
January 7, 200916 yr Author That would be commercial suicide if they try fleecing the consumer because of lack of High St competition, they will go down the pan faster than they can blink There is no valid excuse for anyone not to be buying their stuff online in this day and age The fact is not everyone has access to the internet or is comftable with online buying - Although the under 30 generation might see Internet shopping as the norm there are millions of people that have never been near a computer. HMV already hike their prices upto £16.99 for non chart albums and they will continue to do so knowing that for many people it is their only option to buy it at that price.
January 7, 200916 yr you don't get chew when buying in store. You pick the product, you pay, you walk out. Any problems you can easily go back. None of this sending it back, things going missing etc. I mean I'm still waiting for GAME's website to dispatch EndWar. I ordered it on the 1st, and it's been picked and packed for the last 3 days, despite it being available for immediate dispatch. I would have none of that chew if I walked into a shop. I'd rather pay the extra for the security of knowing I can get an item there and then and not be at the mercy of the postal service or a slow website.
January 7, 200916 yr HMV are already deep in $h!t financially, issued a profits warning over Xmas, probably teetering on the brink of administration Unless the chief executive suffers from some sort of mental illness I really don't think anyone would be stupid enough to yank up prices in the middle of a credit crunch and also at a time when HMV themselves are deep in $h!t
January 7, 200916 yr Quite sad to see woolies in cupar actually shut. its the towns biggest retail unit so i hope it'll be filled. Fife had 5 or 6 of the last 25 scottish woolies :o quite a disproportionally high amount. Even St Andrews was open, and Cupar is just 20mins down the road. I hope Zavvi doesn't go, its promising that the administrator thinks they can trade out of administration. They were really f***ed by EUK going down with woolies. Just for the record the £100m owed by Zavvi to EUK was not a contribution factor to EUK's collapse. EUK collapsed because their parent company who owned 100% of the company went under (Woolies for the benefit of anyone who has been under a rock for the past month)
January 7, 200916 yr EUK collapsed because their parent company who owned 100% of the company went under (Woolies for the benefit of anyone who has been under a rock for the past month) Other way round, Woolworths stores were almost profitable, EUK dragged Woolies down by the bulkhead, it was the losses in EUK that caused the collapse of the Woolworths group not the other way round

I ordered it on the 1st, and it's been picked and packed for the last 3 days, despite it being available for immediate dispatch. Excellent point! I don't know what kind of way HMV post stuff but it seems to be put on the back of a tortoise which they give a map of the destination. I got an email about a week ago saying my Amy MacDonald CD had been posted 1st thing that morning and i still hasn't arrived!
January 7, 200916 yr Didn't bother getting anything from Woolies but I can't wait till the Zavvi closing down sale  then you'll have a very long wait :naughty: Plus it isn't online so you won't be able to ;)
January 8, 200916 yr Other way round, Woolworths stores were almost profitable, EUK dragged Woolies down by the bulkhead, it was the losses in EUK that caused the collapse of the Woolworths group not the other way round Eh, no! EUK was the profitable end if you've been following this, it's the stores that were responsible for the £385million debt, that's why originally it was only the retail arm which was put into administration, but since no-one would insure EUK's deliveries as a result of the group problems (forcing it to pay cash), EUK was dragged under
January 8, 200916 yr HMV are already deep in $h!t financially, issued a profits warning over Xmas, probably teetering on the brink of administration Unless the chief executive suffers from some sort of mental illness I really don't think anyone would be stupid enough to yank up prices in the middle of a credit crunch and also at a time when HMV themselves are deep in $h!t i don't think HMV are in a big $h!t... they r still making a lot profits... just look at their share of the sales now... plus CD sales are not going down anymore so HMV will continue to make profits for a long time now thx to CD sales and their digital services....
January 8, 200916 yr Excellent point! I don't know what kind of way HMV post stuff but it seems to be put on the back of a tortoise which they give a map of the destination. I got an email about a week ago saying my Amy MacDonald CD had been posted 1st thing that morning and i still hasn't arrived! Well usually when i order stuff online, I get it within a week, if not just three days after I ordered it. Granted I have yet to order off HMv, so maybe that's a bad online store. I was thinking of ordering on there, because I don't know if anyone's noticed but some stuff on there is cheaper than in the high street stores
January 8, 200916 yr In our local Paper it said the Woolies in my town was going to be overtaken by a Tesco Metro
January 8, 200916 yr Other way round, Woolworths stores were almost profitable, EUK dragged Woolies down by the bulkhead, it was the losses in EUK that caused the collapse of the Woolworths group not the other way round No, EUK made £100m last year, woolies was the bankrupt part not EUK then you'll have a very long wait :naughty: Plus it isn't online so you won't be able to ;) 50% starting Friday :w00t: and i'm working grr <_<
January 8, 200916 yr Other way round, Woolworths stores were almost profitable, EUK dragged Woolies down by the bulkhead, it was the losses in EUK that caused the collapse of the Woolworths group not the other way round  so wrong so wrong! I won't bother repeating everyone's correction for you ;)

I was thinking of ordering on there, because I don't know if anyone's noticed but some stuff on there is cheaper than in the high street stores HMV is my favourite online store these days. I would say that it takes 3-5 days from the date of posting to receive the item (which is the same as Play.com and faster than CD-Wow) but pre-orders are despatched usually by the Wednesday of the previous week which means that you sometimes get them on the Saturday before release or on the day of release. I've pre-ordered Now 1 and it was despatched on Tuesday night.
