Looking at the release schedule it looks like the best chance we’ve had for a noteworthy run of 1 week No1’s for YEARS.

The last time we had 4 consecutive 1 week No1's was in the fall of 2006: McFly, Fedde Le Grand, Westlife and Akon.

Before that the next longest run of 1 week No1's was at the beginning of 2005 when an incredible 11 No1's just spent a week at No1: Steve Brookstein, Elvis, Elvis, Ciara, Elvis, Eminem, U2, Jennifer Lopez, Nelly, Stereophonics and McFly.

Let’s look at the contenders:

15/02/09 Eminem, Dr. Dre & 50 Cent Crack A Bottle

He’s stormed upto #3 on iTunes with very little airplay now that he’s been play listed on radio1 does he have the momentum to topple Lily Allen next week?

22/02/09 U2 Get On Your Boots[/b]

They’ve topped the charts with releases from their last 3 studio albums: Discotheque, Beautiful Day and Vertigo. Very strong on downloads combined with a dual physical release will this enter at No1?

01/03/09 Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck Without You

Not convinced about this personally but she stormed to the top stateside could she do the same here? The Max Martin/Dr Luke ticket is undeniably hot at the moment.

08/03/09 The Saturdays Just Can’t Get Enough (Official Comic Relief Single)

Every official Comic Relief single since 1995 has reached No1 and with The Saturdays reaching new heights with every release you simply cannot bet against this reaching the very top.

An interesting aside the Comic Relief singles between 1995 and 2005 all shifted 150k plus on there first week at No1 could the Sugababes vs Girls Aloud just be a blip?

15/03/09 Bryn West and Nessa Jenkins (Rob Brydon & Ruth Jones) Islands In The Stream (Unofficial Comic Relief Single)

In both 2005 and 2007 Peter Kay’s unofficial comic relief singles destroyed the official in terms of chart performance and sales. Could Rob Brydon step into Kay’s shoes and continue the trend?

22/03/09 Calvin Harris I'm Not Alone

Fresh from his success with Dizzee could this excellent track provide him with a deserved solo No1? Probably one of the weakest possibilities I’ve outlined here. On the other hand if the comic relief singles turn out to be one week wonders could a former No1 reclaim the top spot?

29/03/09 29/03/09 Flo Rida Right Round

Low was one of the biggest No2’s of last year could he go one better with this killer sample? A very promising contender!

I make that 5 or 6 potential one week No1’s on the horizon or could just a couple of these surprise us and true to recent form hog the No1 spot for an age?

I have to say no (but for some reason it wouldn't accept my vote).

Of the songs you named, I can see only U2, and the 2 CR ones getting to #1

15/02/09 Eminem, Dr. Dre & 50 Cent Crack A Bottle #2

22/02/09 U2 Get On Your Boots #1

01/03/09 Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck Without You #1

08/03/09 The Saturdays Just Can’t Get Enough (Official Comic Relief Single) #1/2

15/03/09 Bryn West and Nessa Jenkins (Rob Brydon & Ruth Jones) Islands In The Stream (Unofficial Comic Relief Single) #1

22/03/09 Calvin Harris I'm Not Alone #1

29/03/09 29/03/09 Flo Rida Right Round #2

hmm...I don't think Eminem will quite have the momentum to shift Lily...U2 will get there, Kelly will knock them off, The Saturdays might falter at No.2 if Kelly's still selling well, the comedy one should be a chart topper but probably won't hang around long, Calvin could quite easily be another 80k+ seller which should ensure that Flo Rida gets a second No.2

Calvin could quite easily be another 80k+ seller

We *are* talking about the same song, right? IMO he'll be extremely luck to even get T10 with 'I'm Not Alone'.

No, pretty sure not. U2 may be number one (not sure), the CR ones will, Kelly won't I don't think, or any of the others...
I'm think it will stop on Bryn and Nessa song so it might be a recore breaker.

I think people are under estimating Taylor Swift, I even think she should get to number one over U2.
They all have number one potential and will all be big sellers but I think some will stall at #2 as the Comic Relief songs will be selling by the bucketload

It just screams mega-hit

if it misses the top ten, I'll give you £100 :P

it's one of the most certain top 3 hits I've ever heard and No.1 is a definite possibility

I think it might be a slow burner, peaking at say #3 but spending months in the top ten a la No Air

Calvin Harris has competition now from Pet Shop Boys, see Pop forum

One of the Comic Relief singles will stick around for a bit, I'm hoping PSB will knock the comic relief single off rather than Calvin Harris, plus I don't think Kelly is #1 material

The Pet Shop Boys song is really good, but I can't see it being any near #1. It won't get the airplay and their physical-buying fanbase won't be enough nowadays

No

I reckon:

15/02/09 Lily Allen - The Fear (Eminem, Dr. Dre & 50 Cent - Crack A Bottle probably #2)

22/02/09 Taylor Swift - Love Story (U2 - Get On Your Boots: The Irish rock band are like Oasis chartwise, as Oasis failed to score a #1 with the lead single from their latest album, I can see U2 falling the same fate as the impact of first weeks physical sales continues to decline. Probably #2 or #3. Especially as Vertigo only sold 51K+ to grab #1; Sometimes You Can Make It On Your Own sold just over 30K+ for a #1 spot, I think Lily's & Eminem's single sales will see off the most lukewarmly received lead new U2 track in over 25 years... It's downloads in the USA have been very poor compared to previous U2 tracks (It debuted at an underwhelming #37 & fell to #96 the next week compared to Kelly Clarkson's 2 weeks at #1 resulting in the most one sided musical battle in US musical history... It has certainly taken a critical kicking on The Word magazine blogs.... But if Lily & Eminem don't outsell U2 in the UK, then Taylor Swift's debut download week of release certainly will IMHO)

01/03/09 Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You (D) (As this is the fastest selling track worldwide since Rihanna's Umbrella, anyone who thinks this song won't be UK#1 is living in cloud cuckoo land!)

08/03/09 Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You (2nd week) (The Saturdays - Just Can't Get Enough #2 - They don't yet have the sales base to sell 80K+ in a week to grab a #1 spot, and as Comic Relief are marketing the comedy single as the lead 2009 CR track it is easy to see where their priorities lie. Add Kelly's single bein released physically & I think the Saturdays will need to sell 100K+ to grab the #1 spot from Kelly)

15/03/09 Bryn West and Nessa Jenkins (Rob Brydon & Ruth Jones) – Islands In The Stream (If this cover is half decent as the original Bee Gees song is a classic, with two other Gavin & Stacey themed comedy tracks on the physical single = a surefire #1)

22/03/09 Probably Bryn West and Nessa Jenkins (Rob Brydon & Ruth Jones) – Islands In The Stream (but if the cover is not that special I would not rule out Kelly Clarkson returning to #1. Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone will probably peak at #3 or #4.

29/03/09 Either Islands in The Stream or Kelly Clarkson (I can't see Flo Rida - Right Round being that big in the UK, possibly Top 5 but it does not scream UK#1 to me)

I do sadly thing that Taylor Swift goon will be a long-running #1 now. However, if she can do something like prevent Eminem and co from making #1 with that hideous excuse for a song, I will be quite thankful.
I think people are under estimating Taylor Swift, I even think she should get to number one over U2.
Agreed! Especially with the fake version charting High on iTunes (Ala, Katy Perry - IKAG, Leona - Run, Lady Gaga - JD etc...) But I said U2 would get at least one week at number 1... but the fake version of 'Love Story' is really quite shocking me...
The Gavin and Stacey song is this years official Comic Relief song along with the Sats.
Flo Rider Number 1? :puke2: Your joking now. Low was a bad novalty track that people now wish they hadn't bought! Right Round is worse. Everyone at work moans at how bad this track is when our local radio station play it!!! But chavvy teenagers and boy racers will love it!

How was that a chart battle in the US pray tell?

Since when have U2 been expected to top the US Hot 100?

Kelly’s single was specifically and cynically written to top the US charts. What an absolutely absurd comparison!

Being their least well-received lead single didn’t stop Discotheque racing to the No1 spot with the highest first week sales of their career.

Neither Oasis nor their fan base have got to grips with the digital age and still rely heavily on physicals hence their downfall on the singles front.

By contrast U2 have flourished in the digital era Vertigo spent 8 weeks at No1 on the download chart while their collaboration with Green Day spent 2 weeks at No1 on iTunes.

Now that downloads comprise 95% of the market they can make their download dominance here count.

To coin a phrase: "anyone who thinks this song won't be UK#1 is living in cloud cuckoo land". :P

01/03/09 Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You (D) (As this is the fastest selling track worldwide since Rihanna's Umbrella, anyone who thinks this song won't be UK#1 is living in cloud cuckoo land!)

Nice fact; HOWEVER... Rihanna only sold 34,164 copies of Umbrella in her first week and peaked at 60,650. Then there are these American females first week sales:

Katy Perry 45,935 (1st full week)

P!nk 53,264 (1st full week & combined)

Lady GaGa 40,537

Need I go on?

If anyone seriously thinks Kelly Clarkson is going to (significantly) outperform the above with a vastly inferior track they are living the cuckoo land dream!

Oh I think they'll perform better than the Sugababes/Girls Aloud one and realistically will only need to sell around 60k to beat all the competition. ;)

Oh I think they'll perform better than the Sugababes/Girls Aloud one and realistically will only need to sell around 60k to beat all the competition. ;)

Nah, 80k at least ;) Kelly C will be a force to be reckoned with, but I expect both CR songs to sell really well and I think all 3 will be #1.

As for U2, I am on the fence with it, they could well do an oasis and stall at #3 - remember Vertigo was selling well at the time on downloads, but the market share was tiny compared to now and they haven't been tested on 'modern' downloads yet.
