Trashley we're supposed to be able to enter any song we want, if people can't choose the song they want just because it's cheap I have no doubt they'll leave and that will also be bad for the contest.

I think this topic is a bit pointless aswell....and Im affraid this topic will lead people to not give a vote to countries that think their song is cheap and build the brigde and making this contest ala real Eurovision...vote for the country which always vote for my country :nocheer:

I'm sure he's not trying to dictate anything, he's just frowning upon the act of sending them

 

it's a bit of a catch 22 situtation really...some countries might leave if they can't send 'cheap' songs, but then others might leave because there are too many cheap songs...it's a lose-lose situation which has been blown slightly out of proportion as I assume/hope it would revert back to more unknown next month...these things do tend to go in cycles

 

VIII is always seen as the boring contest, and that's because people were already familiar with a lot of the songs. I think what Trash is trying to do is to prevent the contest from becoming boring

Cheap entry: one which is sent that is already popular or has a reasoning to be known to be obviously popular (e.g. sending a massively popular artist with a song that fans are likely to be familiar with, e.g. an album track), possibly with the aim of getting an easy good result.

 

I get it now, seems I was barking up the wrong tree -_- in otherwords in plain simple terms something along the lines cough Britney Spears - If U Seek Amy cough.

 

 

I'm signing. Honestly I put a lot of thought into my entries and after seeing Love Story, Breath Slow etc qualifying over mine, irrespective of how much better some think they are over my non-qualified entries for example - it is a bit of an insult and a major mood kill for those people who do send credible and hours-of-thought-put-into entries and end up not qualifying in comparison to Breath Slow, Love Story, Trick Me etc etc which seem like last-minute-i-want-to-qualify entries. I'm sorry this is just how I see it and i'm not being bitter, it's just bjsc shouldn't lose it's tradition of minimal cheap entries and why those should be kept for a spin off for example. Etc etc. People just look at it from both angles rather than just labelling this as sad or insane or something. It's pretty legitimate if you ask me.. And Tyron and Rich, being mods of this forum would really know what's best, them being the most dedicated to the contest from the very start.

I certainly don't think that I know best, but if every contest was like this one, I personally believe that the contest would not garner much continued interest as it would begin to lose the basic prinicpal of discovering new music and become more of a ranking the latest singles competition

Sorry Kath, but I put a lot of thought into my entry too, and I can't believe your telling me I took a cheap shortcut. The "cheap" entries are great songs, and it's not my fault (or any cheapos) that people didn't vote for your entry, it might just be that they don't like the song.

Exactly, and it works both ways anyway. Plenty of "cheap" entries have failed to make the final as well...

personally this wont affect me at all...I will still stick at my system and give votes the way I always did.

Let people send what they want, It'd pointless sending a song you don't like, and some people don't have the time to sift through unknown acts if there actual favourite song that month is.. say 'Love Story'
