Posted March 15, 200916 yr Flo fails to score a 2nd consecutive week at the top spot, as Comic Relief's Comedy charity single reigns supreme. For the Chart of 15.3.2009: For the 3rd week in a row, we have a brand New Entry, in at number 1. This time, it's for "charidee" as 'Islands in the Stream' is 2009's answer to 'Amarillo' and '500 Miles' singles, which were Comic Relief number 1's in 2005 & 2007. 'Islands in the Stream' was originally a number 7 hit for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, back in 1983. But Gavin and Stacey stars, Vanessa Jenkins and Bryn West (along with the help of Sir Tom Jones & Robin Gibb), have managed to take it 6 places higher for Comic Relief. Second week on the chart and a drop for Flo Rida this week, as he falls to two after just a week at the top of the charts. 'Right Round' is the first single to be taken from his forthcoming 2nd album 'R.O.O.T.S'. Flo is also most probably expected to climb back to the number 1 spot either before or during his physical release which is due Monday 23rd March. If Flo Rida succeed's in returning to the number 1 spot, it will be the first time a former number 1 single has climbed back up to the top spot, since Shakira's Summer anthem 'Hips Don't Lie' moved, {1}-2-2-3-1-1-1-1, back in 2006. In third place is the official Comic Relief single 'Just Can't Get Enough' which also falls a place in it's second week on the chart. Although, 'Just Can't Get Enough' is the first Comic Relief related single not to hit the number 1 spot since The Pet Shop Boys reached number 6 in 1994, it isn't too far away from outselling 2007's Comic relief single; Girls Aloud vs Sugababes 'Walk This Way', just 2 weeks into it's run. Down to 4 is Lady Gaga, who will more than likely be the main contender to challenge Flo Rida to the number 1 spot in the next coming weeks, as she is down just the one place this week, with 'Poker Face'. To complete the Top 5, is a non-mover, by the name of Taylor Swift, who's 'Love Story' has so far moved 22-{2}-5-5, in it's first month of being in the chart. Down to 6 is the former number 1 'My Life Would Suck Without You' by Kelly Clarkson. T.I. & Justin Timberlake's single 'Dead and Gone' falls a place to 7 on release week, which has so far moved, 58-47-30-17-{4}-6-7. 'Dead and Gone' has become T.I.'s 4th Top 5 hit. (2nd where he is credited as the main artist). Completing the Top 10 this week, and returning to the Top 10 at 8, is Kings of Leon's 'Use Somebody', which is up 3 spaces, as it was used on the 'Comic Relief: Mount Kilimanjaro Climb' programme on BBC 1 in the middle of the week, and spends it's 20th week inside the chart. Up 4 places for Akon who enters the Top 10 for the first time with 'Beautiful' at number 9. A new entry at number 10, is Oasis' 26th UK Top 40 single and their 23rd Top 10. 'Falling Down' has recieved very little Radio and TV Airplay so far, and up until Comic Relief, had made very little impact on iTunes, so Oasis have proven that physicals are pretty much still in demand. especially for bands with hardcore fanbases, like theirs. Swedish dance act September (Real name Petra Eos Marklund), manages a 2nd Top 15 hit with 'Can't Get Over', almost a year on from the Top 5 smash 'Cry For You'. 'Can't Get Over' enters the charts this week at number 14, with an album planned for release later this year, September could have an even bigger year in 2009, than 2008. This weeks highest climber and up 20 places this week is Beyonce's 3rd single from 'I Am...'. 'Halo' has been very well recieved by Beyonce fans, who claim it to be one of her best records. 'Halo' has done "O.K." in the U.S however it is poor by Beyonce's standards as it has so far only peaked at number 37 on the Hot 100. 'Halo' has become Beyonce's 15th consecutive Top 20 Solo hit, here in the UK. With TV airplay and Radio Airplay still to pick up over here, this will be a contender for number 1 in the coming weeks. The next new entry to the Top 40 comes from Katy Perry who's 3rd single, 'Thinking of You' benefits on physical release and enters at number 27. That's quite a flop for someone who's debut single entered at number 1 and 2nd single went Top 5, and is still in the charts 22 weeks later. Number 32 see's a Re-entry to the Top 40 for Leona Lewis 'Run'. Who is back after the song was used on the ITV hit show 'Dancing on Ice'. Miley Cyrus' brother has formed a band named Metro Station. Who's debut 'Shake It' enters on downloads at number 37. This will be one to watch in the coming weeks. The last new entry inside the Top 40 this week comes from Annie Lennox, who recieves her 10th solo Top 40 hit and the first Top 40, in 14 years. Since 'Waiting in Vain' reached 31 back in 1995. Moving onto the Top 10 albums this week, and there is no change at the top as U2 still remain on top. However The Top 5 see's 3 new entries. The highest of which comes from Annie Lennox. Who's collection of hits, debut's at number 2. It is Annie's 5th Top 10 album and her 3rd highest peaking since 1995's 'Medusa' which peaked at number 1. Another new entry at number 3 is Kelly Clarkson and her 4th studio album 'All I Ever Wanted'. It is Kelly's 3rd Top 3 album after 'Breakaway' entered the album charts at number 10, but didn't peak until 24 weeks later at number 3. However 'My December' was less successful, despite peaking one place higher at number 2 in her debut week, and spending a total of 8 weeks in the Album chart, {2}-9-20-25-41-58-69-76. Time will tell to see if Kelly will be able to manage a more 'Breakaway' sort of success rather than the 'My December'. Down 1 place this week to 4, are Kings of Leon who are still in the Top 5 with their 4th album 'Only By the Night', which hasn't left the Top 5, since the beginning of December when the Album fell to 7 only to climb back up to number 5 the week after. Bodes well for them next week in the album charts, they could benefit from 'Sex on Fire' becoming the biggest ever digital selling download ever, selling 560,000 downloads ever. The final new entry inside the Top 5 comes from American Teen Star, Taylor Swift. Who's UK Debut album 'Fearless' comes in at a respectable number 5. After the success of 'Love Story', Midweeks suggested that Taylor was heading for a Top 3 debut. However, a late surge of Comic Relief related programmes, forced Kings of Leon and Annie Lennox above her. There is one more new entry inside the Top 10. It comes from 'Britain's Got Talent' favourite Faryl Smith who's debut has been reported throughout the week, on various news stories, as currently outselling the current number 1 album. Which would suggest that she would be on course for at least a Top 3 entry. However, she debut's 5 places lower than suggested at number 6. The rest of the Top 10 are all fallers as The Prodigy fall 5 places to 7, so far moving {1}-2-7. Lady Gaga falls to 8, Take That tumble a couple of places to 9 and Lily Allen's former number 1 album 'It's Not Me, It's You' is down to 10 this week. The Top 10 albums consist of 5 Former number 1 albums, 4 New entries and Lady Gaga Will the Comic Relief single manage to stay atop of the charts for a 2nd successive week? Or will Flo Rida or Lady Gaga manage to climb to the Top spots. Next week is a moderately quiet week for major new releases, with the main contender more than likely being The Pet Shop Boys comeback single 'Love Etc...' It will be their first hit since featuring on Robbie Williams top 20 hit, 'She's Madonna'. Other new releases that could affect the chart next week come from La Roux who's single 'In For the Kill' is released on Monday. La Roux came 5th in the BBC's Sound of 2009 Poll. The Script will also be challenging to get their 4th Top 40 hit with 'Talk You Down'. Laura Izibor's 'Shine' could very well challenge for a Top 40 placing as she is recieving considerable amounts of Airplay on both TV and Radio. Another contender is Royksopp 'Happy up Here', The Pussycat Dolls 'Jai Ho' & Miley Cyrus 'The Climb'. Will U2 be able to keep their crown for a 3rd week? Or will Peter Doherty be able to score a number 1 with his first solo album 'Grace/Wastelands'. Peter failed to score a hit with his single 'The Last of the English Roses'. However, he does seem to be an act who will sell more albums. The only other likely contender for the number 1 will come from Ronan Keating. Who releases his album, 'Songs for my Mother', in time for Mother's Day, next Sunday. Sources: Manic Kangaroo, Poleyhex & Chart Stats Edited March 15, 200916 yr by Jonjo
