Posted March 15, 200916 yr Comic Relief (Nessa/Bryn/Tom J/Rob) has succeeded to dethrone Flo Rida from the top spot The Top 3 last week slipped a place for the Comic Relief comedy single this year. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1799919.JPG Singles Chart Top 10 It was Red Nose Day last Friday, here goes the 2nd Comic Relief single for this year. The song which is also a cover is called (Barry) Islands in the Stream, from Gavin & Stacey's Vanessa Jenkins & Bryn West (known as Ruth Jones & Rob Brydon). The song also features Tom Jones & Robin Gibb. The single shot to the summit of the charts this week, being the 3rd single of Comic Relief comedy singles to get to No. 1. The first one started at 2005 with Is This The Way To Amarillo by Tony Christie. The next Red Nose Day at 2007, the re-recording of I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by Peter Kay, Matt Lucas (as Brian Potter from Phoenix Knights and Andy Pipkin from Little Britain) and The Proclaimers. Also, this makes the 3rd consecutive 'straight in at No. 1'. The Top 3 may be holding strong sales-wise but they are forced to slide down one place. Last week's No. 1 Flo Rida's currently download-only, the You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) sampled track, Right Round (features Ke$ha) taken from his upcoming album R.O.O.T.S. is down 1 place to No. 2. The Saturdays with 'Just Can't Get Enough' (last weeks No. 2) will definitely either climb or stay at its position next week as it was performed at the start of the Comic Relief programme; this time, it's also down 1 place to No. 3. Lady GaGa with Poker Face also follows the place slip, to No. 4. It's spent 9 weeks overall in the chart (30-26-28-24-22-15-[3]-[3]-4-). Country-pop singer-songwriter Taylor Swift is a non-mover this week at No. 5 (22-2-5-5-). Despite the physical release of T.I.'s Dead and Gone (features Justin Timberlake) (58-47-30-17-[4]-6-7), it's slipped this week 1 place to No. 7. The first American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson continues her fall, now onto No. 6 with My Life Would Suck Without You ([1]-4-6-). Nashville, Tennesse band, Kings of Leon bounces back to the Top 10 at No. 8 from the effect on Dancing on Ice last Sunday night and the Mount Kilimanjaroo programme. Entering Top 10, Akon along with Colby O'Donis and Kardinal Offishall, climbs 4 places to No. 9. It is now Colby's second UK Top 10 visit in his career, first being Just Dance by Lady GaGa even though only featured in a song. Also a new entry, Oasis returns to the Top 10 at No. 10 with Falling Down. Noticing that it's not selling well digitally, this shows that physicals can be really big with loads of fan support. Top 20 Now onto the Top 20. Swedish singer Petra Eos Marklund, a.k.a. September returns with Can't Get Over entering at No. 13. It was almost an 11-month absence since her last release Cry For You which peaked at No. 5 (20/04/2008). Now that Halo by Beyonce is picking some airplay, it resulted in a massive climb of 20 places to No. 20. James Morrison performed at Comic Relief with Broken Strings last Friday. The song luckily climbed 1 place to No. 18 this week and it will definitely climb back its way to either Top 10 or Top 15 next week. Notable Movements and other Entries Annie Lennox has returned this year. The song Shining Light is up 11 places from 50 to hit Top 40 at No. 39 after for 14 years. The popularity of the song is due to the release of her album The Annie Lennox Collection (which is covered at the Albums commentary). The song is also a cover by a Northern Irish alternative-rock bandAsh which was released 8 years ago (Feb. 2001) reaching No. 8. The I Kissed A Girl and Hot N Cold singer Katy Perry's third single Thinking Of You enters the Top 40 at No. 27. This is her 3rd Top 40 hit and it was struggling to hit Top 40 until when physicals came last Monday (63-62-62-63-50-42-42-[27]-). Leona Lewis re-enters the Top 40 with Run at No. 32 due to her performance at Dancing On Ice. Californian band Metro Station (the vocalist Trace Cyrus is Hannah Montana's star Miley Cyrus' half-brother) enters the Top 40 at No. 37 after being at No. 54 last week. This is currently their first Top 40 hit in UK. Top 10 Albums The album chart has gotten quite active this week, 4 fresh new entries across the Top 10. Again it's Kelly vs. Taylor for the new entry but U2 was able to cling at the top spot with No Line On The Horizon and Annie Lennox makes the Top 2 with The Annie Lennox Collection, a new entry. No. 3 is a new entry from Kelly Clarkson with All I Ever Wanted, scoring the 3rd UK Top 3 album in her career. Only By The Night by Kings of Leon down 1 to No. 4. It's the album's 14 consecutive weeks at Top 5 and 25 weeks in the whole run without going outside Top 10 ([1]-[1]-2-3-3-4-6-4-6-7-5-4-3-3-2-[1]-2-2-3-2-2-[1]-2-3-4-). Another new entry, Taylor Swift under Kelly by 2 places and settles at No. 5 with US No. 1 album Fearless. New entry outside Top 5 is a finalist from Britain's Got Talent last year Faryl Smith with the album Faryl at 6. Down 5 for The Prodigy with Invaders Must Die. Down 4, the equivalent number of new entries this week perhaps is Lady GaGa with The Fame. Take That with The Circus and Lily Allen with It's Not Me, It's You completes the rest of Top 10. Next Week We will see some singles chart action from the return of Pet Shop Boys with Love etc., Laura Izibor with Shine, A.R. Rahman and Pussycat Dolls' Jai Ho and Royksopp with Happy Up Here. Peter Doherty's first solo album Grace/Wastelands can be a big album seller this week even if his single Last of The English Roses failed to hit Top 40. Ronan Keating can possibly hit the top spot with his Mother's Day album Songs for My Mother and Barry Manilow's The Greatest Songs Of The Eighties. funmaker11 a.k.a Funmaker or FM11 Edited March 16, 200916 yr by funmaker11
March 15, 200916 yr Very good. There are some errors but I won't point them out because I'm not mean. :)
March 17, 200916 yr Funmaker I love your quick chart commentary. For those of us oldies here on BJ (me, Mush, Grim, and a few others) these quickies are the most we can cope with these days! Norma
