Records Broken: Second country to win twice: Eledan; Most finishes at 7th: MdiÄe

So, what happened?: From the beginning of voting, the results seemed to be a predictable four-horse race, with Nonsuch holding the lead for much of the early part of the voting with FSR Rontvia, Eledan and Kellyana Kingdom on their tails. Later on in the voting, FSR Rontvia took the lead, however, the end-vote saw some shocks with Kellyana Kingdom falling behind and Deandria charging up the leaderboard on their debut, with the result going down to the final vote care of Tinnmark, with the second double victory guaranteed. Eledan, Nonsuch and FSR Rontvia had 135, 133 and 131 points respectively, however the victory went to Eledan with a Tinnmarkian 12 which gave Eledan a slightly flattering margin of victory of 11 points.

Any shocks?: Well, the final aside, XI saw two big shocks when early favourites Bokia and Kathaldazia (who sent Christina Milian - Us Against The World, and Jamali - Secrets respectively) fell out at the semi-final stage - moreso Bokia, who had been placed as favourites in the majority of odds given for the contest due to Brandy's victory with a similar song in the previous contest. In the final itself, the biggest shocks came with the failures of Land of Jack, Simondly and KopeÄka to turn favourable odds (and in KopeÄka's case, an extensive promotional tour) into successful finishes, and with Deandria's shock 4th place finish. Faztickle's final entry into the contest with Broken Strings, featuring Nelly Furtado who had previously finished 2nd in the first contest, also underperformed, finishing 15th.

How did the songs and entrants of the contest fare afterwards?: Six of the entrants (Britney Spears, Florence and the Machine, Alesha, Agnes Carlsson, Gabriella Cilmi and Robyn) have appeared in subsequent contests, most notably Agnes and Robyn who have both won the contest in repeat appearances. Chart-wise, Robyn underwhelmed with Dream On, while James Morrison managed to score a New Year hit with Broken Strings peaking at #2. Lenka and Pixie's entries are both down as future singles, with Pixie scoring a #1 with Mama Do with Boys & Girls set to be released as second single, and Lenka entering recently at #33.

---

So, what were your favourites from this contest, and which entries do you feel over/underperformed? Have you changed your mind on some of the entries since? How would you rank the contest as a whole?

Thanks :D I was shocked and thrilled that I came 4th in my debut.

XI was amazing! With the exception of Ladytron, i actually like all the songs that made the final. Can the standard of the entries please go back to being like this please LOL.

I came 18th which isnt too bad considering everything. Jessica Mauboy should have done a whole lot better though.

great contest, my 12 in the semi went to Jamali and I was gutted that it fell out there...by default my 12 in the final went to Lenka which was a very worthy winner...I was very pleased with Pixie's performance too, 3rd place was very impressive

Deandria coming top 5 was a huge shock but a good one proving that you don't need to be a 'big name country' if your song is good enough to be a success on its own merits

As was becoming the norm by this point, I was gutted at yet another flop for Dalisska, Words is a fantastic song and deserved so much more!

AAAHH! Suzie McNeil! The song Kelly Clarkson SHOULD have recorded

One of Nonsuch's best entries! -_- In fact I think it IS his best :o

Obviously the best contest to-date! :kink:

Oh and Tron - may i recommend you using "& #269;" (without a space) instead of copy/pasting the č symbol as i know you're on proxy :o So we won't see those strange 'letters'

I was for sure - And I like that song very much, it sort of gets boring after a few listens though :( A deserving winner however

I remember this very much  it was all down to me :w00t:

Glad you like it more in hindsight - it will always be one of my fave ever entries

Well, not particularly, given SOMEONE GOT THE EXCEL SPREADSHEET WRONG :kink:

I remember being so gutted when Jessica Mauboy finished so low! :( It's one of my favourite songs I've sent too I think.

'Tap That' and 'Lonely (Are You Coming Home?)' were by far my favourites in this contest.

'Tap That' and 'Lonely (Are You Coming Home?)' were by far my favourites in this contest.

They're two of the worst (if not the worst) songs I've ever 'discovered' in BJSC. I was so glad when Lenka won!

Oh yes, the DREAM ON contest. I so coulda won that, I think about three people went crazy for it after they voted? -_- Lenka was a great winner though and top 5 is more than I expected so all was good.

I didn't even know "Dream On" was getting a release. I was gonna send "Konichiwa Bitches" and then Ben told me about "Dream On" and I fell in love immediately!

It's weird, I often forget "Broken Strings" was even sent even though I gave it 2 points. Herzebania also became the first and only ever country to choose their entry via a game of Boot and Immune. It was good to see something from the early 90s do (relatively) well. The BJSC is good for hearing new music, but I also like discovering old gems that I never knew.

This was actually a very high quality final, I don't dislike anything that got through there.

Destroy Everything You Touch got entered and came 4th? :o

LOL at Paris and flop Alesha material doing WELL.

BJSCV next please :kink:

Without doubt for me this was the most enjoyable contest I've competed in.

A great winner; in fact four brilliant songs in the top 5 (and Pixie :kink:)

A tight final contest with a cliff hanging ending. What more could you want.
