  1. My first thought when the theme came up was that ABBA might make their debut in these contests with “Soldiers”.

  3. Went for Fleetwood Mac, Lil Uzi Vert and She & Him
  4. Went for Liberty X
  5. Not a huge deal but is anyone finding that embedded Spotify links aren’t working for them? For example if I click on the above from Juan Carlos it just turns into a white box and doesn’t take me there.
  6. Close actually as both are very good - went for Ultrabeat narrowly.
  7. And so we’re down to our 3 of our favourite ever December hits. None of them are strangers to winning rates. “Bad Romance” has won Buzzjack’s flagship Record Of the Decade contest, twice I believe. “Fairytale Of New York” won the Christmas #2 poll here last year and was also voted Buzzjack’s favourite Christmas song in a previous poll. And “Stan” won the ultimate ultimate 2000s hit survivor from a field of nearly 1,000 songs. But in which order will they line up here?

It was her 8th Top 5 hit. the most for any solo female at the time, but also her last Top 40 hit as it stands, with her next single only reaching #51. However, it has re-entered the Top 40 in each of the last 9 consecutive years.
  9. Going for Emma now - I prefer all the follow up singles.
  10. It’s been an ugly week for the Sugababes as they receive the boot from 2 survivors in quick succession. A #3 in December 2005, this was the follow up to the #1 “Push The Button” from their “Taller In More Ways” album. The subject matter drew comparisons with TLC’s “Unpretty”. 4th: Sugababes - Ugly 13/32 votes (41%) 5th: Flobots - Handlebars 14/32 votes (44%) 6th: Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock 10/25 votes (40%) 7th: Omarion - Ice Box 10/26 votes (38%) 8th: Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Cash 11/28 votes (39%) 9th: City High - Caramel 11/29 votes (38%) 10th: Blue - Bubblin’ 15/31 votes (48%)

The single has a strong ‘80s new wave and disco flavour, and entered at #2 behind Band Aid 20 before falling a place in Christmas week. 2 weeks later it would return to #3 with the lowest ever sales for the #3 position, around 7k.
  13. Of course the week before “XMAS” Wham! also increased in sales and were knocked off. That sort of thing must have happened plenty of times around Christmas in recent years. “Changes” by Ozzy and Kelly nearly doubled when moving 1-3 in Christmas week I believe.
  14. Only You I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll The Look Of Love House Of Fun Torch Party Fears Two
