Posted June 18, 200619 yr This forum is an opportunity for you to show the rest of Buzzjack your favourite tunes of the week. You can do this in one of two ways: 1. Your own weekly thread of your Top tracks. Charts are normally Top 10/20/30/40's, but they can be any length. This can include as many pretty pictures and features as you like (e.g. commentaries, retro tracks) or be as basic as you wish. Most charts are new and current songs, although anything can be included. 2. Submit your charts in the weekly BuzzJack Multichart topic, and if you have an album chart, submit that in the weekly Album Chart topic. These are complied and revealed weekly by the moderators of the forum, Nick F1, Jáhq, Robot & Joseph. The main Multichart is pinned on Saturday afternoons, the Album Chart on Sundays. It's as simple as that just get out there and show Buzzjack members what you're loving! We hope you enjoy posting in the Personal Charts forum though if you do have any queries or problems please feel free to contact Nick F1, Jáhq, Robot or Joseph, your Moderators :P Jack, Nick, Rob and Joseph
March 3, 200718 yr Author Hopefully this guide should give you a few ideas for your personal charts and help those new to making them :D Images Most people include images of CD covers in order to add a little colour to their charts, but it may not be obvious how to do this if you are unfamiliar with tagging. Most people source their CD covers from HMV.com, although some use Wikipedia or other sources. Be aware if you use Wikipedia that the image is subject to deletion and will often need resizing and bordering in order to fit in with HMV images if you are using a combination of the two due to the image not being available on HMV. If you find an image not available on HMV, just post it up in the pinned 'CD covers' thread, and often someone will resize, border, and host the image for you. Be aware that the standard sizes are 85x85 pixels for medium images or 130x130 pixels for larger images, so if you have found an image which doesn't use these dimensions, you can resize it by saving the image, then using http://www.resize2mail.com/advanced.php. Once you have done this, select the image you wish to resize by choosing the file you have saved it as, then input the height and width as 85x85 or 130x130, depending on the size you want. Once you have done this, save the image, and then upload it to a host (such as PhotoBucket or ImageShack.us), and paste the link into your topic. If you wish to add a border to your image and do not have an image editor such as PhotoShop, post the link in the pinned CD Covers topic and someone will add a border for you. Using HMV.com 1 - Search for the song using the search tool on HMV.com 2 - Choose the relevant result and click on the CD cover, which will take you to the single's main page 3 - Right click the image of the CD cover and go to 'Properties' 4 - Highlight the address (URL) of the image, and press Ctrl+C to copy the address. (Example of URL - 'http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1748657.JPG') 5 - Paste the address into your topic, and add img tags around it, as follows: Example: [img=http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1748657.JPG] 6 - Which creates: http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1748657.JPG Most people only use CD covers for songs in their top 10/20, but you can use up to 100 images in your chart if you wish! Layout It is advisable to use a neat, uncluttered and easy to follow layout, although you can be as extravagant as you wish with your layout. A general layout would go as follows: CD Cover-CD Cover-CD Cover-CD Cover #1 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #2 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #3 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #4 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #5 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) CD Cover-CD Cover-CD Cover-CD Cover #6 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #7 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #8 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #9 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #10 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #11 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #12 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #13 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #14 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #15 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #16 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #17 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #18 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #19 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) #20 (Position the previous week) - Artist Name - Song Name - Chart Run (Number of Weeks) And so on. Many people tend to use colours or images to liven up their chart, and may use certain colours to indicate whether a song has risen/fallen from the previous week or is a non-mover or a new entry. Some prefer to use arrows instead to indicate the movement of their songs and use colours to indicate whether a song is a former #1 or simply to colour up their chart. To add colours: [color=blue]TEXT[/color] Which would make: TEXT BuzzJack uses the hex triplet method of identifying shades of colours (in which different colours are accessed by inputting a 6 digit code), so if you wish to use a certain colour you would instead do it as follows: [color=#002FA7]TEXT[/color] Which would give a darker result: TEXT. You can play around with the different combinations in order to get different results with regards to the colour - a list of the hex triplets with the colours is available HERE Arrows are available on Buzzjack as emoticons, with differing inputs leading to differing images:   :left: :right: :ne: :re: :no1: Which give: :no1: All of which have obvious uses. Some members are willing to make custom arrows for those who request them if you want to add a unique twist to your chart's layout. Most members use a combination of the above techniques in order to make their charts more interesting to read. More guides for personal chart composition will come soon! If you have any questions don't hesitate to post them in this thread :D Personal Chart guide originally posted by Tyron
March 25, 200718 yr is it ok if i have a bunch of older songs in my charts? oh and do they have to be actual singles or could they just be album tracks. Edited March 25, 200718 yr by shakilover
March 25, 200718 yr is it ok if i have a bunch of older songs in my charts? Thats fine. It's your chart to let everyone know what songs you like, whether from the past, present or maybe even future :D
October 8, 200717 yr A tip for beginners. Keep it simple. It's better to post a simple chart then get bogged down in making it look perfect. Most people are interested in the music in your chart and not the presentation ;)
October 9, 200717 yr A tip for beginners. Keep it simple. It's better to post a simple chart then get bogged down in making it look perfect. Most people are interested in the music in your chart and not the presentation ;) I have to agree with this, apart from the artwork for the top 10, it took me the best part of a year to experiment with my layout
October 10, 200717 yr It's better if you start out small and build up aspects, as usually you'll find your chart evolves into a unique layout ^_^ Colour coding can help as well but it's probably better to start off simple rather than colour every single thing differently ;)
February 2, 200916 yr Right, I threw this idea to the other PC mods and we're all in agreement about this so here goes Recently it's been noted that members are commenting in people's charts with remarks like "I don't like anything". To be honest, we've discussed this and we all agree it's a bit needless and spammy so we would recommend comments like the above example be avoided It works differently for everyone but as a rule of thumb if I go into someone's chart and like less than 5 songs i'll avoid commenting even if the chart is made by a friend or someone who I regularly comment. Like I say, it works differently for everyone but I wouldn't go into a chart and leave a comment saying I don't like any songs. To me it's pointless and serves no purpose other than to bump up your post count From hereon forward if any comments like this are reported or are spotted they'll be removed. Apologies for this but in our eyes it's spam, so they will be sent to the one area they belong in: the trash. People who constantly leave meaningless comments will be warned, so yeah just avoid doing it for everyone's benefit If you have any comments/queries/questions about this or are still unsure about what the differences are between acceptable and unacceptable comments then please send a PM to one of us, (preferably me) and we'll be more than happy to iron out any issues which may arise. Cheers Regards, your friends The Personal Chart Modding Team Damon, Mykul and Aaron
May 27, 200916 yr I know this doesn't happen in the real charts, but can you have two versions of the same track in a chart? I would like Electro Radio Edit & Original Version of When Love Takes Over...not sure if the same rules apply to Buzzjack personal charts. :)

I would like Electro Radio Edit & Original Version of When Love Takes Over...not sure if the same rules apply to Buzzjack personal charts. :) Hmm...the singles chart on here isn't really my area, but I'd assume it's the same as the real chart. I know for things like deluxe versions of albums, they'd get combined so I suppose remixes do as well. Maybe Damon or Perry will tell you it's fine to chart both, but they'll only count the highest one? Otherwise you might get people charting every remix under the sun of a particular song to abuse the system.
April 17, 201015 yr Hi! :D I would very like to start making my own personal chart soon too, but I have some problems figuring out how to do so. This thread did help me a lot on how to get started with my chart structure, layout, colouring, picture adding and how I should not think too advanced in the beginning of it all. And I have been looking a bit on other peoples charts in here. But how do you guys figure out the order of the songs in your charts? Do you rank them by how much you've liked/loved/enjoyed them in the week that has passed, or do you rank them by how much you've actually been listening to them during the last week? I recently registered at Last.fm, and could easily look into that to rank the songs in my chart. But let's say you've been listening to a song about 100 times during the week, and another one about 80. But if i loved/enjoyed the song with 80 listens a bit more than the other one, should I rank that one higher? And what happens when two songs has an equal amount of listens? Or if I've loved/enjoyed two songs about equally. Should I then be looking at number of listens and vica versa? I mean, how should I distribute and weigh the different elements? I'm sorry if I'm being too confusing. I'm just really confused about this :drama: In advance, thank you for your help! :)

No worries about asking :D For me, its what I like best and also part what I listen to most - really its all personal and for most its probably a mix of the two. As I said, there needs to be no forumula or reason, just chart songs as you want to. Of course, others could have complicated ways of doing their charts, but not me
April 18, 201015 yr Yeah, there's no rules on how you compile your own chart. Order it how you feel it should go, no one will know any different. I guess people tend to chart songs on how they feel about it at that moment in time. Only you can decide really.
April 18, 201015 yr There's nothing complicated about it, you simply list your Top 20/30/40 songs of the week? Much how you rank the songs in Bjsc ^_^

I find it the easiest and most sensible way ^_^

April 18, 201015 yr I see, nothing more to it then :) Great! Thanks for your help guys! :D That's about what I needed to know :) I think I'm gonna go start working on my own first personal chart now! :cheer: Edited April 18, 201015 yr by Freeze
