Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
The 'See You" music is quite a bit darker than the previous Depeche Mode tracks so I would say it is progress in their sound even if the lyrics are still rather happy. Town Called Malice is one of The Jam's most effortless songs. Used to really like 'Centerfold' its very catchy and the Na na na-na-na bit makes you want to sing along, but the lyrical themes have aged very badly. 'It Ain't What You Do' is familiar from adverts over the years especially B&Q. Still good though even though I prefer Fun Boy Three's 'The Telephone Always Rings'. 'Mickey' was on music channels too much even in the late 90s/ early 00s when I was growing up and soon grew tiresome.

Take That feat. Leony - Said It All (Jax Jones Rework)
Oh its a 2012 Avicii/Alesso/SHM style festival progressive house style dance song. Makes sense as that is a nostalgic sound.

The UK Top 40 singles of the 1980s: listening sessions + polls: next session 28 December
Classix Nouveaux - Is It A Dream ABC - Poison Arrow Visage - The Damned Don't Cry Associates - Party Fears Two Gary Numan - Music For Chamaeleons Bucks Fizz - My Camera Never Lies (the best #1 of 1982 imo) Shakatak - Night Birds Monsoon - Ever So Lonely Pigbag - Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag Japan - Ghosts Altered Images - See Those Eyes Shalamar - I Can Make You Feel Good. Again I prefer the more high tempo and synth tracks. Is It A Dream is a great synth dancefloor-focused track, Poison Arrow another great dancefloor focused track. The Damned Don't Cry is more meditative but I like it too. The Associates very unique with their vocalist, Music for Chamaeleons has a great bassline. My Camera Never Lies is a bit cheesy but I still really like it. Shakatak great jazz piano vibes. Ever so Lonely is a lovely song too. Pigbag good fun and Ghosts an unusual top 10 hit. See Those Eyes my fave from Aletered Images great indie track, and the Shalamar song a classic thorugh both them and Kavana in the 90s.

I remember Rhydian in the X Factor sung it in Shirley style too. Voted for P!nk anyway.

The sad passing of Chris Rea has made me realise that York's cover of On The Beach is better than ATB Till I Come but of course ATB was first with the guitar trance trend and without it the York song may not have existed.

Oh I liked Said It All, was their Coldplay style anthem! Makes sense for it being a dance anthem too!

In Pretty Fly... I always remember 'You know you can always GO ON RICKI LAKE!' Catchy song which I liked at the time. Boom Boom Boom Boom is catchy too remember it from the time and not sure I was a big fan.
