1993 Top 75's of the year
and new entries further down from Capella - U Got 2 Let The Music at 49, the highest-ranking new dance track ahead of Culture Beat at 52 (Got To Get It), the catchy More And More from Captain Hollywood Project at 72
Yep these songs along with Haddaway meant the Eurodance era was in full swing! I am a fan because of the revival of big synth sounds that earlier 90s house didn't have as much. 'More and More' is quite subtle compared to the other ones, sounds like it could still be a hit now! I don't know why dance music hits have to be so minimalist in production these days compared to the 90s and 00s :( Although at least Casso/RAYE/D-Block Europe - Prada a few years ago was a brief revival to the 90s eurodance sound even if some of the lyrics weren't very good.

The most Mariah sounding song that is not by Mariah?! I remember someone on here said that Ariana Grande - Santa Tell Me reminds them melodically of Amy Grant - Baby Baby. The ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh of the Color Me Bad song is good and sort of carries the song when the rest of it isn't as interesting melodically.

Lol I first discovered 'Promise Me' through Scooter's 2012 track '4AM' which sampled the opening lines of the song, mashing it up with Otto Knows Million Voices! The Beverley Craven original song is a really nice piano ballad anyway, and like Oleta James' Get Here, gained poignancy because of the Gulf War. 'Tainted Love' was recently on another thread on this forum 'The UK Top 40 singles of the 1980s: listening sessions + polls' 'Gypsy Woman' is very influential, with lots of songs sampling it and I remember in 2014 Down On My Luck by Vic Mensa reminding me a lot of it, and the whole deep house trend of 2013-15 was probably influenced a lot by 'Gypsy Woman'. Its good but still not one of my favourite 90s dance songs.

Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
'New Life' is good, the downbeat vocal stops it from being too sugary for me. 'Lay All Your Love On Me' has a good electronic disco sound to it. Visage - Visage is a good example of an eponymous song and has apparently been renamed recently to Vis - age on spotify. It has that typical Ultravox style epic synth backing. 'Chip shop....' is charming indeed. 'Chant Number 1' is less electronic from Spandau and has a big reliance in brass that they would use again for their 1983 era. The guitar solo is a bit jarring on Randy Crawford - You Might Need Somebody, when I am used to the later Shola Ama version. The song in its multiple versions has become a soul ballad classic though! 'Computer Love' is a nice chilled track. 'Can Can' is fun with its fairground wurlitzer sound. Evelyn - I'm In Love is distinctive for me, it has a proto-house style piano!

My record of the week 60 years ago
Didn't think the San Francisco themed songs started until 1967 lol

Trancentral is epic, Get The Message and Ring Ring Ring are quite good too. The Blur song is good too. The Vic Reeves crooner vocal influenced cover of Born Free is interesting. Touch Me is quite Stock Aiken Waterman sounding and a bit dated for 1991 I think.

Ultravox - The Thin Wall Soft Cell - Tainted Love Kim Wilde - Water On Glass/Boys The Human League - Love Action (I Believe In Love) Adam And The Ants - Prince Charming The 'Thin Wall' has an interesting beat to it. I think I usually prefer 80s synthpop with guitars too like Ultravox and Kim Wilde compared to just synthpop on its own like Soft Cell, although Tainted Love is a strong song! The Cliff Richard song is suprisingly good. The Bill Wyman song is oddly quirky, while I didn't know Rolling Stones Start Me Up was an 80s song until today, thought it was 70s.

I thought it might of been Skye Newman too in contention but her streams are declining now. So Lily looks the most likely, along with Olivia reappearing high in the chart too.

I discovered it on @Colm and @Doctor Blind 's excellent '90s dance number ones thread' on buzzjack! They seemed to like it on there and said it was a precursor to the sound of The Shamen.

I remember 'The Shoop Shoop Song' on my childminder's jukebox in the mid 90s when I was a child - I did really like the song but didn't know it was a 60s cover until more recently. 'Sailing on the Seven Seas' is catchy, also it seems very 70s glam rock revivalist. It's not one of my favourite OMD songs though. There were a lot of Italian acts making the charts in the 90s but mostly dance acts, Zucchero is a rare balladeer. 'Human Nature' is a good song, and quite different to most house songs in the chart at the time. 'Let the carnival begin'!

Sonny Fodera, D.O.D & Poppy Baskcomb - Think About Us
Its a bit like No Broke Boys but nowhere near as droney in production thankfully.
