A slight difference to the polls we usually have, this time it's pitting a Madonna classic against a classic from another act altogether. The connection here is obvious though. Madonna's huge single from 2005 samples the instrumental introduction to ABBA's hit single from 1979.

Quite simply, which do you prefer.. the sample or the samplee?

Obviously it's slightly biased by being in the Madonna forum, but i'm sure we're all pop fanatics beyond M and so can vote in an unbiased manner B-)

Absolutely impossible but I'd say Gimme Gimme just as that has been one of my favourite songs since I was like a 2 year old! Both all time classics and up there with the best songs ever
Gimme Gimme by far. Hung Up is just a basic pop song without the sample whereas GGG is a stone cold classic.
Obviously Hung Up will win here, but Gimme Gimme Gimme for me.
Very interesting battle indeed! Has to be 'Hung Up' for me. Definitely helps that I heard it first, but the sampled melody sounds so much more enhanced and bolder than it does in the ABBA original (granted, that's probably more to the advances in technology from 70s to the 00s). Plus this is my ultimate favourite whereas, whilst still without a doubt one of my faves, there are a handful of songs from ABBA that I prefer.

I do love Hung Up, it's one of Madonnas best.

But Gimme Gimme Gimme is amazing so I gotta go with the original!

Almost this exactly, except I knew GGG before Hung Up (being a huge ABBA fan since I was about 9). GGG is an incredible song, but Hung Up is incredible AND THEN SOME. It's life altering. I don't think I can ever say it enough times, but it is the best song ever recorded in my opinion (your honour), so really there's no competition at all.

Also think this will be much closer than people assume.

I was going to say - we know there are some deluded poor souls out there that hate on 'Hung Up' and most of them seem to be 'GGG' lovers, so I would not be surprised at either result!

Hung Up was following that big dance trend that followed 'Call On Me' by Eric Prydz of sampling disco and 80s songs at the time if I remember. My absolute favourite of these was the remix of Go West's We Close Our Eyes that the Groove Cutters did :) I used to call it 'Fitness Music' as it was the sort of music being played in gyms at the time along with the string led house music by dance artists such as the Shapeshifters and Freemasons. But because I knew Hung Up was by Madonna, and i didn't really like pop stars at that time, I could never like it as much as those other retro sounding dance tunes that were around at the time, so i have to go with Abba.
Definitely Gimme Gimme Gimme. Hung Up is one of Madonna's best but you can't beat ABBA as their songs just have that special something!
Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight), this is just a classic. I do love Hung Up, it may feature as a classic among Madonna fans but i dont in any way believe it fits into the same classic category that Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight) fits into.
