    Andrew's Review
Now That’s What I Call Music! 63 aka Now 63 was released in Spring 2006 and featured 42 tracks with 5 UK #1 singles. This volume was the first to be made available as a digital MP3 download on various providers including iTunes. It was also the penultimate volume to be released on double cassette. It was on this volume that we first heard music from Orson, The Ordinary Boys, The X Factor 2005 winner Shayne Ward, The Feeling, Fall Out Boy and Sunblock. Also notably, it was the third time in the series which You Got The Love by The Source featuring Candi Staton was featured (the other appearances being on Now 19 and Now 36).

With over 12 available recording minutes across both CD’s, there was most certainly room for 2 or 3 more songs to add to the 42 tracks. This becomes more advantageous when compared with the absent UK #1 singles of that era including Madonna, Arctic Monkeys, Pussycat Dolls and a plethora of American rappers paying homage to The Notorious B.I.G. Along with these omissions, there were also missing hits from Chris Brown, The Kooks, Eminem, James Blunt, P!nk, Kanye West, Oasis, Beyoncé, Joey Negro and Mary J. Blige.

Now 63 was the only volume in the series to feature Corinne Bailey Rae, Meck, Hi_Tack, Chico, Andy Abraham, Son Of Dork, Liz McClarnon, Nizlopi, Kubb and José González.

Artwork Rating: 6/10 Good
It is hard to give this design anything less than good, though there are some aspects that disappoint me. First, I do like that the setting is in a dark sky, maybe at dusk, and that is aesthetically pleasing. The colour of the shiny logo is also very sharp. Where my issue lies is in the overuse of multiple colours in the sky in the shape of hot air balloons. The overused concept made this artwork a bit too much colour on the eye and that lets it down from being better.

Disc 1 Favourite: Hi_Tack – Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U)
This short dance tune, which samples a song by Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney, was a personal favourite of mine at the time and had feel-good vibes to brighten up any situation. Very good production from these guys who went on to work under many other aliases, including Klubbheads.

Disc 2 Favourite: Sunblock – I’ll Be Ready
A great updated dance mix of the classic Baywatch theme tune.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Oasis – Let There Be Love 5:30 {2}
2. Mary J. Blige & U2 – One 4:03 {2}
3. James Blunt – Goodbye My Lover 4:18 {9}
4. Arctic Monkeys – When The Sun Goes Down 3:20 {1}
5. The Kooks – You Don’t Love Me 2:35 {12}
6. The Zutons – Why Wont You Give Me Your Love? 3:21 {9}
7. Hard-Fi – Cash Machine 3:46 {14}
8. Franz Ferdinand – Walk Away 3:42 {14}
9. The Strokes – Juicebox 3:17 {5}
10. Editors – Munich 3:46 {10}
11. Madonna – Sorry 3:58 {1}
12. Herd & Fitz feat. Abigail Bailey – I Just Can’t Get Enough 3:10 {11}
13. Freemasons feat. Amanda Wilson – Watchin’ 2:47 {19}
14. Joey Negro – Make A Move On Me 2:59 {11}
15. Tom Novy feat. Michael Marshall – Your Body 3:31 {10}
16. Chris Brown feat. Juelz Santana – Run It! 3:49 {2}
17. Kanye West feat. Lupe Fiasco – Touch The Sky 3:56 {6}
18. The Notorious B.I.G. feat. Diddy, Nelly, Jagged Edge & Avery Storm – Nasty Girl 4:46 {1}
19. Beyoncé feat. Slim Thug – Check On It 3:07 {3}
20. P!nk – Stupid Girls 3:06 {4}
21. Charlotte Church – Moodswings (To Come At Me Like That) 3:07 {14}
22. The Pussycat Dolls – Stickwitu 3:27 {1}
----------
Total time: 1:19:21

Overall Rating: 5/10 Poor
Plenty of filler on this volume it would seem. I’m not sure why there was such a large amount of recording space unused, mainly on Disc 2 where 2 or 3 more tracks could fit to make this volume a better quality volume. There’s certainly lots of glaring omissions from this time and that lets it down for me. I would also have liked a little more care and attention to detail to have been invested in the design of the artwork too. Overall quite disappointing.

Andrew's Best 5 (as of October 2017)
1. Hi_Tack – Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U)
2. Black Eyed Peas – My Humps
3. Meck feat. Leo Sayer – Thunder In My Heart Again
4. Orson – No Tomorrow
5. Corinne Bailey Rae – Put Your Records On

Andrew's Worst 5 (as of October 2017)
1. Girls Aloud – See The Day
2. Andy Abraham – Hang Up
3. Nizlopi – JCB Song
4. Texas – Sleep
5. Richard Ashcroft – Break The Night With Colour

Revisiting this though it is a fairly poor compilation but Disc 2 is much better overall!

Went for Hi-Tack - Say Say Say for disc 1 (Thunder In My Heart was close though) and Sunblock - I'll be Ready for disc 2 so same as you went for awardinary! 'Say Say Say' I prefer though, such a vibrant dance tune! Lol at that Shapeshifters and Chic track making it when it only made #40, great track though!

EDIT: realized it was 'Incredible' not 'Sensitivity' on the album. Fantastic tune, I think I should have chosen that instead of 'I'll Be Ready' (which is still very good though).

A lot of great dance tracks excluded from this album, aside from the ones in your disc 3 awardinary and other omissions, also DHT ft Edmee - Listen to Your Heart.

Good to see we have the same taste in dance music. music.gif

Shocked that for the second volume in a row I’ve missed a major dance omission which you’ve identified! ohmy.gif

I’ve added it to the list of other omissions for now, but I may move it to Disc 3 eventually.

I'll have to play the correct charting version of 'Listen to Your Heart' on plug as the top version on youtube is not the charting version, this is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6uARpqekIY ! Such a brill tune, should have made the Now 63 imo along with Make A Move On Me, Just Can't Get Enough, Watchin' and Your Body!

Hmm. This is a lot weaker than I remember this Now being. But a lot of good songs on it regardless, and I do love the artwork with the hot air balloons at dusk, so picture-esque and different for a spring Now. Top 5 from each as always...

CD1
1. Corinne Bailey Rae (you can't help but want to smile and sing along when you hear this song. Shame it was her only big hit)
2. Will Young (absolutely gorgeous and so simply but beautifully delivered. One of Will's best singles by far)
3. McFly (again one of McFly's best singles, even if it got released at a very trying time for them - which I'll discuss more of on the Plug.dj on Wednesday. I'm pretty sure they could have bolted 'Ultraviolet' on as well in place of say, Andy Abraham...)
4. Dead or Alive (80s pop classic, admittedly there under the context of Pete Burns being on Celebrity Big Brother, but none the worse for all that)
5. The Pussycat Dolls and will.I.am (After their debut, their best single for me. Love the ELO sample, love the slight witty undercurrent of it all and Will's feature is really cool)

CD2
1. The Source and Candi Staton (quite simply a timeless classic. And my favourite mix of this one by far the New Voyager mix)
2. Goldfrapp (another brilliant single from their 'Supernature' album. What a flawless run that was!)
3. Kaiser Chiefs (I got this second hand on 7" vinyl along with 'I Predict a Riot" recently. That first album was something very special indeed)
4. A-ha (I bought this single when it came out! The Hits and TMF played this a lot around the time it was released and I just fell in love with it from there)
5. Gorrilaz (loved 'Dirty Harry' anyway, but also loved the Korean/Japanese version of this single too that was it's B-side)

Pleased you put Madonna 'Sorry' on your disc 3 Andrew, such a big omission. The Streets, McFly, Simon Webbe, Ashlee Simpson, Charlotte Church (Even God! wub.gif ) Shakira and Pharrell were my picks for the omissions!

Another omission from this volume could be Kanye West's 'Gold Digger' as it missed Now 62 in favour of 'Diamonds from Sierra Leone', though he had released a further two singles from 'Late Registration' by the time Now 63 was released, so I guess it was too late to include. It's a shame as it's one of his best!

My Top 5's are:-

CD1:

1) Hi Tack - Say Say Say
2) Orson - No Tomorrow
3) Simon Webbe - No Worries
4) Sugababes - Ugly
5) Kelly Clarkson - Because Of You

CD2:

1) Gorillaz - Dirrty Harry
2) Coldplay - Talk
3) Embrace - Nature's Law
4) Shapeshifters - Increadable
5) Fall Out Boy - Sugar We're Going Down

Poor volume really with less than half the album I would listen to nowadays. The next edition is much better.

I think danG may be restarting this series in the new year (I was speaking to him on PM a few weeks ago about it). Although not sure if he has asked for awardinary's permission yet.

Obviously I would prefer awardinary himself to come back and do them though if he feels up to it again.

Although it does go downhill imo for the album and omissions after the next one as far as dance is concerned for me (don't really like the emerging spoken word electro era as much as the retro house we have seen over the past few Now's and Now omissions discussed in this series).

I only said that may be a possibility if awardinary completely disappeared from the site, but he still browses and goes on plug, so perhaps in a few months he might want to re-start it.

Yes that would be great if he returned to the site, even just to continue this series and the associated and the associated plug seshes if he felt up to it.
